Golden Boy: Cancelled, No Second Year for CBS Series

Golden Boy canceled, no season twoOfficer Walter Clark’s story has been cut short. CBS has cancelled Golden Boy after one season and 13 episodes.

Airing on Tuesday nights, Golden Boy tells the tale of a young and ambitious New York cop (Theo James) who rises quickly through the department’s ranks to become the youngest Police Commissioner in NYC history. The cast also includes Chi McBride, Kevin Alejandro, Bonnie Somerville, Holt McCallany, and Stella Maeve.

The network was hoping that Golden Boy would perform better than Vegas — and for awhile, it looked like it might. Unfortunately, Golden Boy’s ratings ended up being pretty bad, particularly in the 18-49 demographic.

The episodes that have aired so far have averaged a 1.4 in the demo with 8.3 million total viewers. It’s one of the lowest-rated shows on the network.

The last episode, titled “Next Question,” will air next Tuesday night.

What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Golden Boy has been cancelled? What would you have liked to see in season two?

What a shame Golden Boy was canceled! It was a show that my children and I could watch together. In this day and age, that is saying a lot! C’mon CBS- give it another chance. And a better time slot. We had to DVR it and play catch up the next night. AMAZING SHOW! Please reconsider…

I am terribly disappointed that CBS cancelled Golden Boy. It was a great show. How in the world did you expect the ratings to soar when it was aired in the spring? Give it another try. I remember when JAG came to CBS after struggling on another network. CBS worked hard to give it another chance. Please do the same for Golden Boy.

Sad, very sad! :( June 16, 2013 at 4:59 am

I am so disappointed. I really enjoyed Golden Boy. Didn’t miss an episode. It was so good I had no doubt it would be renewed. It was the only new show this season I truly wanted more of. Couldn’t CBS at least keep it as a summer show? ABC has done this with Rookie Blue, (I think that’s the name). I really cannot believe this was cancelled. Shame on CBS.

Did anything survive on Tuesday at 10pm? I can’t believe Body of Proof will come back (it was not half as good as Golden Boy — and that is being generous!) and I’m not sure what NBC had on (was is Smash?), but I think it was dropped to a Saturday night show.

Just another example of TV execs looking for a mega hit in a time slot they don’t exist. Wish they’d have moved it to Friday before (or after) Blue Bloods. It would have gotten the audience it needed to survive.

Why would CBS cancel one of the best tv police stories? This just sucks. I loved that show and couldn’t wait until next season. I guess its really is all about the Benjamin’s.

I was so sorry to see it was canceled. I liked it ALOT and the cast was GREAT. I’m sick of all these reality shows and find them absolutely ridiculous. I hope to see “Golden Boy ” return in the future so we can see some entertainment. PLEASE

We looked forward to Golden Boy every Tuesday after the 2 NCIS series. All we get is these shabby reality shows and you pull the plug on serious acting and good acting I might say. Two broke girls should be cancelled and it’s time to pull the plug on other shows that have seen their better days. Your biggest audiences are in the 50+ group these days. 18-49 groups are not interested in TV like us older folks. We baby boomers take up a greater portion of the population at this tie.

PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL GOLDEN BOY IT WAS SO GOOD AND WE REALLY ENJOYED IT. IT IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN SOME OF THE REALITY SHOWS THAT ARE ON RIGHT NOW. I LOVE ALL THE CBS SHOWS, NCIS, CRIMINAL MINDS, AND BLUE BLOODS.

TERRIBLE STATE OF AFFAIRS . THE TREND IS PULL THE PLUG WITH OUT
GIVING GOOD SHOWS A CHANCE. THERE IS A LONG LIST OF HIT SHOWS
THAT STARTED SLOW AND BECAME HITS BUT IT LOOKS LIKE THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN.
GOLDEN BOY WAS A GREAT SHOW WITH GREAT CAST CHEMISTRY AND
GREAT SCRIPTS.

I can’t believe you are canceling one of your very best shows. Your marketing in the beginning didn’t lend itself to watch the show. I just did on a whim and Loved it!!!Please someone pick this one up!

WHAT! No please don’t cancel “Golden Boy”. I finally get to see a show that works, Love the whole cast. The chemistry with everyone fits like a glove. I hope this is a late posting. I will hopefully find better news somewhere else. I refuse to believe “Golden Boy” is canceled. I can think of 10 other shows that belong in the garbage can. This has to be a mistake. Bye.
