It’s no secret that Pan Am has been struggling in the ratings. As a result, ABC decided to order only one episode beyond their initial 13 installment order.
Pan Am is currently one of ABC’s lowest-rated shows and currently averages a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.76 million total viewers. That’s the same as now-cancelled Work It. The most recent episodes have been garnering a 1.2 in the demo, ensuring that the season average will keep dropping.
ABC maintains that the show has not been cancelled and Christina Ricci, the actress who plays Maggie the flight attendant, maintains that a decision won’t be made until May.
In a recent press call, she said, “I don’t really understand the ratings system and how that works or, I choose not to… If I go shopping, the people who work in the stores love the show. When I fly, all the flight attendants love the show. I know friends and family love the show. Most of them didn’t watch it during its time slot. Most of them watched it online or TiVo’d.”
Ricci doesn’t understand why Pan Am’s numbers aren’t better, but said, “I just feel like more and more people towards the end of the season are getting really into it and really saying that every show is better than the last. And that’s good, because you really want a show to have time for development and develop into something really amazing.”
There was hope that the 14th episode would be used to give the ongoing storylines some closure but Ricci says that’s not the case, “If there isn’t a season two, there will be questions that will never, ever, ever be answered.” She concluded, “But, hopefully we will get a season two and no one will know that until May.”
What do you think? Do you think Pan Am producers should have planned to end the show with episode 14 or, leave things unresolved in hopes of a second season?

We love Pan Am! Please, please don’t cancel it!
I also was very confused by a few of the story lines in episode 13, which aired on 2/12. I think that somehow, this episode was shown out of sequence. I’ve enjoyed watching Pan Am at 10:00 on Sunday nights, and I hope the show is not canceled.
RMF » You’re correct. Episode 13 was shown on 1/22. Episode seven was shown on 2/12 and last night’s was the 14th episode.
This is a great show!!! My husband and I watch it on our cables On Demand.. This is a good quality show that keeps you on your seat asking for more..
I am already asleep when this airs, so I watch it On Demand. Love the show! Please don’t cancel!
I really enjoy the show and have it set to DVR. However I am a little confused as to last weeks episode. Was this episode aired out of order as I was left with a lot of questions like why are some characters back in the picture and what about the story line they were following? Did I miss something or did they?
I love this show! The clothing and sets are very believable and the characters are great. I usually record it on my DVR; please do not cancel this show!
I think that the show would rate better if it got Desperate Housewives timeslot. ABC loses a lot of people because no one watches that show anymore. Put this after Once Upon A Time and they’ll have a winning night.
I love watching Pan Am, but like most I watch it on On Demand, the time slot is just not convenient. Please keep it going. It’s my favorite show.
Attention ABC – keep this show going, the characters are just starting to develop. Eagerly awaiting next installment!
One of the classier shows on tv – the look is authentic re:the period, story lines improving. Please give it time to evolve!!!!
Great Show! I watch it online! don’t cancel it!!!
Christine is right…..as far as measuring the ratings, Nielsen is in the dark ages. We watch Pan Am online on our schedule. Nielsen needs to join the 21st century. Indeed Pan Am has a huge following in Europe of young people who download the show. Again ABC and Nielson appear to be tone deaf and missing the boat in this one.
LOVE THIS SHOW!! I realize the time slot hurts the ratings when PBS’s Downton Abbey [which I also watch] goes 2 hrs instead of just 1 but normally it’s perfect!! Please don’t cancel!!
Please keep PAN AM on the air . I TiVo the show and have watched every episode. Last week’s show seems to gave been out of sequence. We learned about the shooting of the nude photos . The previous episode already had them on display in a Greenwich Village gallery. Do the rest Of you agree?? This is the only television show since MAD MEN that has hooked me. Guess I’m not in the target demographic.
My husband and I record it and watch it together. We love so please consider keeping the series!! It’s hard to find good shows!!
Love this show!!! Please don’t cancel it!!!
