FOX has announced there will be no second season of 24: Legacy, at least for now. Deadline reports FOX CEO Gary Newman said that star Corey Hawkins’ commitment to the Six Degrees of Separation revival on Broadway means he’s unavailable. The thing is, had the FOX planned to renew the 24 sequel for a second season, Hawkins would have still been on contract, so it may be safe to consider 24: Legacy cancelled.
24: Legacy stars Hawkins as Eric Carter, an Army Ranger who becomes the target of a terrorist organization. The show’s cast also includes Miranda Otto, Jimmy Smits, Teddy Sears, Dan Bucatinsky, Anna Diop, Ashley Thomas, Charlie Hofheimer, Coral Pena, and Sheila Vand. The good news is, the network is opened to future installments of the 24 franchise.
24: Legacy got a huge boost in the ratings when it premiered after the Super Bowl earlier this year. However, the numbers quickly dropped afterwards. Overall, season one averaged a 1.40 rating in the 18-49 demo and 5.124 million viewers. While that seems high, the averages are skewed by the series’ post-Super Bowl numbers. 24: Legacy debuted to 17.576 million viewers and by its April finale, only 3.423 million were watching.
Even FOX chief Dana Walden was disappointed with the show’s performance. Earlier, she told Deadline:
I’m a little sad because I feel like it’s a really good show. We’re doing about 7-8 million viewers over seven days per episode. It’s not terrible. We had really high hopes for the show. Perhaps our launch strategy was a little over-ambitious.”
What do you think? Did you see 24: Legacy? Do you think the show deserved a second season?
Cindy McLennan contributed to this report.
Seriously Fox, you finally have a good show and you cancel it? Figures…
I watched the current 24 and went back and watched the last few of the original 24…no comparison..the acting, drama, casting, story……the new one was boring and recycled…and mostly lousy acting….with changes it should contine…as cureently casted i’m glad its gone
Here’s an idea. Go get Justin Cornwell to take Corey Hawkins’ role. He’s just as good, if not better, of an actor. And easy on the eyes, same as Corey.
I loved it. No Jack, but it was a great show nonetheless. I’m shocked it isn’t being renewed! I’m so tired of cancellations – just today 9 shows I watch got the axe. I’m tempted to just get rid of my TV, DVR, cablevision, Roku and Amazon Prime and Netflix and just watch the paint on my walls dry. Very discouraged with the cancellations this year (and with the garbage that’s replacing great shows).
I liked it watched every week promptly at 7!!!! This sucks. I thought it was very good.
Excellent series’ do not cancel this show. It’s not Jack Bauer, but it keeps you on the edge of your seat. I hope FOX brings it back. Continue to bring back old characters and put a spin on it.
I liked it. No Jack, but I was glad to see Tony show up. it kept my attention. I hope Fox bring it back. maybe get Chloe back as well.
Might have been better than the original!! I’m absolutely shocked that it’s not coming back and really sad. I loved the show, the acting supurb, and storyline totally believable always kept me on the edge. I had to DVR 2 episodes at a time B/C one just wasn’t enough. Loved it!!!! Best thing on TV and they cancelled it? WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT ????
Loser show from the second the green light was given to this half baked idea. Corey Hawkins did not have to quit, he saw the writing on the wall and bailed. His career is probably shot despite his committing to the Broadway thing. He knew the show was going down and he didn’t want to go down with the ship.
His career is Shot? Really? Exaggerate much? It wasn’t a bad show but of course since Keifer wasn’t a part of it and they gave a black dude the main part it’s awful right?!
Yes!! Second season!! I can’t believe how well they hooked me! I was a major Jack Bauer fan. I didn’t expect to like this as much as I did!! I want more!!!
I and my co-workers enjoyed 24 legacy greatly and couldn’t wait until Tuesday morning for the water cooler discussion on the plot twists. The problem is, that when someone walked by, they would be curious about our excitement, but said, “hmmm, I never even heard of it”. Lack of promotion sadly is the only wrong with this fantastically written/acted/produced jewel.
I enjoyed the TV show , I think Wesley Snipes can handle Carter’s part. Don’t cancel . Please continue
Huh – I’d be pretty happy with Wesley Snipes (in ANY part) 🙂
Please don’t cancel it!! I looked forward to Monday nights……
LOVE SHOW! Can easily focus on another character if Corey isn’t available. That’s the beauty of this show – it’s the design of the show – everything in real time that makes it a nail biter, every season.
Yes, it deserves a 2nd season. I like Corey but if he can’t commit, there are plenty of upcoming actors that can continue the role.
