FOX has announced there will be no second season of 24: Legacy, at least for now. Deadline reports FOX CEO Gary Newman said that star Corey Hawkins’ commitment to the Six Degrees of Separation revival on Broadway means he’s unavailable. The thing is, had the FOX planned to renew the 24 sequel for a second season, Hawkins would have still been on contract, so it may be safe to consider 24: Legacy cancelled.
24: Legacy stars Hawkins as Eric Carter, an Army Ranger who becomes the target of a terrorist organization. The show’s cast also includes Miranda Otto, Jimmy Smits, Teddy Sears, Dan Bucatinsky, Anna Diop, Ashley Thomas, Charlie Hofheimer, Coral Pena, and Sheila Vand. The good news is, the network is opened to future installments of the 24 franchise.
24: Legacy got a huge boost in the ratings when it premiered after the Super Bowl earlier this year. However, the numbers quickly dropped afterwards. Overall, season one averaged a 1.40 rating in the 18-49 demo and 5.124 million viewers. While that seems high, the averages are skewed by the series’ post-Super Bowl numbers. 24: Legacy debuted to 17.576 million viewers and by its April finale, only 3.423 million were watching.
Even FOX chief Dana Walden was disappointed with the show’s performance. Earlier, she told Deadline:
I’m a little sad because I feel like it’s a really good show. We’re doing about 7-8 million viewers over seven days per episode. It’s not terrible. We had really high hopes for the show. Perhaps our launch strategy was a little over-ambitious.”
What do you think? Did you see 24: Legacy? Do you think the show deserved a second season?
Cindy McLennan contributed to this report.
I actually love the show and hope it gets a second season and more because it was just as good as the first 24…. maybe a lot better than the first!! So please bring the show back ASAP… Thanks form a fan of 24: Legacy
24 was once my favourite show ever. Period. 24 legacy was tired, predictable, dated and unconvincing. Worst still that Cory was simply unconvincing. The show is like a once great boxer past his time, now bloated and lumbering around the ring. Time to say goodbye to 24. R.I.P
Definitely deserves a 2nd season!!
I an extremely disappointed that they are cancelling 24. I loved the original and literally cried on the final episode.
I always loved this series so I would love for it to continue. But since I missed most of them I want it to air in the 9pm time slot, also I do not want it to premiere on the same night as the super bowl
Show sucked big time. Old white republicans being the bad guys, c’mon! Stereotypical”hero” who is implied he was a drug dealer and joined the army to get away? His brother still is a drug dealer and he’s a good guy? A really heroic gay guy? Okay possible. A Hispanic presidential candidate? Probably not anytime soon. Although Dennis haysbert was cool as cucumber (just like in The Unit). Cory Hawking’s who? Keifer Sutherland was an established movie star on the way down, so he brought gravitas, Cory who(?) doesn’t have any of that. It doesn’t have to be keifer, but an… Read more »
24 Legacy should have a season 2 because the story line on season 1 Left the audience with a cliff hanger.
Please bring this high intensity, action filled show back….this 60 minutes the show fells like 10 minutes. Instead of letting it go you should market it more to gain more exposure…it’s great!
YES, A 2ND SEASON WOULD BE GREAT AND WE CAN FIND OUT IF REBECCA IS STILL ALIVE. TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, PLEASE HAVE A 2ND SEASON FOR 24 LEGACY.
When is the final show going to be on or did I already miss it?
We Want Season 2❗❗❗❗❗
I was absolutely hooked on the original 24 series even though I thought it didn’t sound very good at first. So, there was a bit of adjustment to 24:Legacy, but I really wanted to give it a chance and hoped it would revive the 24 franchise. I finally did adjust to no Jack, no Chloe and I was very happy to see the return of Tony. Overall, I enjoyed the new cast and found them to be very talented, appealing folks, but the show did lack a lot of the tension and excitement that always seemed a part of the… Read more »
Bring back Jack Bauer
I loved the new 24 just as much as the old one… Corey did a very good job as well as the other new actors… Why would u cancel it??? The ratings were gonna be low compared to Superbowl night because everyone was watch that channel anyway… But overall the ratings were still good… And Kiefer was an executive producer to the new show so I knew the storyline was gonna be good from the start.
Please bring it back. I thought it was a very good show and Corey did a great job. It had a lot of excitement and had good story lines.
I thought it was a good tv series ,nd I think alot ppl didn’t like it because it wasn’t Keith Sutherlin i thought the network should have given it another shot, but Yu know how that **** goes ..
