As expected, NBC has decided not to move forward with a second season of AD: The Bible Continues. The 12 episode mini-series wrapped on June 21st and has now been cancelled.
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Jesus Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the ratings saw severe drops in the weeks that followed. The finale hit a series low with a 0.7 demo and 3.56 million.
Though NBC doesn’t want a second season, the story isn’t over. Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two for some time.
Now that NBC has cancelled the show, the producers see it as a tentpole for the launch of OTT. They have been working on the online channel since partnering with MGM to form United Artists Media Group last fall. The online channel is envisioned as a base for faith and religion-based content but won’t be launched until 2016 or 2017.
The castmembers of AD are being released from their contracts because the next incarnation won’t be filmed for awhile. As a result, there may be some recasting when production resumes.
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled this show? Will you watch the next season online when it becomes available or prefer to watch on DVDs. Would you pay to watch this kind of programming?
Yes keep the series going on Netflix people have lost faith this is a show where it helps understand the learning of the bible
I think this time we are in we need to have this shown on Tv and more shows like this needs to be released. People or lost and searching for faith with God.
Please let this series go on! On Netflix!
What a shame there is only 1 season made. It is so refreshing to find Scripture being quoted as well as enacted. Of course the ratings would be down – no swearing and no sex!!! Don’t need either when there is plenty of drama. I hope the producers ignore the ratings and continue making the next series and hopefully at least another after that.
Yes, I couldn’t stop watching it. Totally mesmerizing . Please continue with the series. We need more enlightening programs like this.
I have discovered AD on Netflix 3 days ago.
I found it so interesting and exciting, I finished watching the entire season just now.
I honestly think AD is more entertaining than The Game of Thrones especially because it touches heart.
I really hope they will continue making this series.
Say, why can’t networks such as CMT, MYNetworkTV, the WB, UPN or the CW pick up this truly great series along with the other great gems such as Dallas, Vegas, No Ordinary Family, Reaper, Notorious, Cristela, The Millers and others which many of these main networks have seemed to create strong followings for and then unfairly discard from their line-ups in some kind of sad attempt to make fun of the preferences of their audiences. Such things as these really should stop… I will give kudos and props where due as both CMT in the U.S.A. and W Network in… Read more »
I would love to see the series continued.
We loved watching it and can not wait for the next 12 episodes
Me too, I like this series very much. It helps to understand and see how was the beginning of Christianity. Very interesting!
This story, the whole story, has to be told on the same addictionest way as ‘the bible’ and ‘A.D. Kingdom and Empire’. I believe a lot of people can be saved by telling about the savior due to this series.
So if the makers wants to tell the story, they will finish it. If they only looking for making profit, then they will not.
I will pay for the series if needed, hopefully Netflix or other platforms will bring it to the people.

Of course i would watch we need more of this type of film.
I would Definitely watch it and have already! Forget “ratings”…get it shown NBC!!! I’ve bought the Blue Ray and love it.
Just watched the series for a second time. It’s was so well done and trying to find anything else on Netflix half as good is impossible. Please bring out a second season.
Such a truly wonderful series, hope you continue with a second season.
Let there be light
Have just watched AD The Bible Continues for the first time.. excellent..But bitterly disappointed no series 2…Hope this gets made soon! How very short-sighted of the producers
