What’s This TV Show About?
A drama series airing on the ABC television network, the Alaska Daily TV show stars Hilary Swank, Jeff Perry, Matt Malloy, Meredith Holzman, Grace Dove, Pablo Castelblanco, Ami Park, and Craig Frank. Eileen Fitzgerald (Swank) is an award-winning investigative journalist and high-powered newspaper reporter in New York. Her reporting methods and abrasive personality are called into question after a high-profile story blows up in her face, and Eileen loses her job. Her former mentor, Stanley Cornik (Perry), approaches her about making a big move, and she goes to work for a struggling downsized Anchorage newspaper, the Daily Alaskan. Grudgingly, Eileen teams up with a young local reporter named Roz Friendly (Dove). Together, they begin investigating the murders of a group of indigenous women. In a new locale, across the country, and in a very different world, Eileen is on a journey to find both personal and professional redemption.
Season One Ratings
The first season of Alaska Daily averaged a 0.23 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.84 million viewers in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. There can be other economic factors involved in a show’s fate, but typically the higher-rated series are renewed and the lower-rated ones are cancelled. Telly’s Take
Will ABC cancel or renew Alaska Daily for season two? The show is produced by ABC’s sister studio 20th Television (Disney owns both) which is an important factor these days. The traditional ratings aren’t great, but the series picks up nearly 90% more viewers in delayed viewing. With the right storyline, I think viewers could be enticed to watch live. I would like it renewed. Probably not a lot of people saw the series so far because it was up against the popular law and order series. I hope they gave it a chance in another time slot.
Alaska Daily is my favorite new show of this season and one of my favorite shows of all time. It’s unique, compelling, and fun to watch. I really like the setting of Alaska which is one we usually don’t see (a nice change from all the Chicago, LA, NY shows). I also like the focus on the importance of local journalism and on the important and undercovered issue of MMIW. It’s nice to have a great show that’s something different and refreshing rather than another cop or doctor show. ABC needs to renew this awesome series. I’ve been telling everyone… Read more »

Please renew this show, it’s awesome and focusing on very good subjects! It needs a different day to be aired. I think being up against Law and Order Organized Crime hurts the ratings. Too many die hard Law and Order fans! Thanks
Hey, as a die hard Law & Order fan EXCEPT SVU, I LOVED Alaska Daily. It is airing all 10 episodes right now on HULU, if you want to binge it. In a lot of ways, it is like L&O because it takes on the corruption of government in high places. The differences is Alaska Daily also brings out the plight of the Indigenous women in the upper northern territories of Alaska and Canada.
