NBC had big hopes for their all-drama Thursday night schedule. Unfortunately, the ratings have been dismal and now the network has cancelled their new drama, Allegiance, after five episodes.
On the Allegiance TV show, Katya and Mark O’Connor (Hope Davis and Scott Cohen) and their daughter Natalie (Margarita Levieva) are part of a dormant Russian sleeper cell that has just been reactivated. Their mission is to turn their son Alex (Gavin Stenhouse), an idealistic CIA analyst, into a spy. Others in the cast are Morgan Spector, Kenneth Choi, and Alex Peters.
The series debuted on February 5th to a dismal 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.98 million viewers. Then the numbers got even worse after that, hitting lows with a 0.7 in the demo and 3.32 million viewers.
NBC’s eight-episode mini-series The Slap has also been doing very poorly and recently relocated The Blacklist has been taking a beating opposite Scandal on ABC and with no lead-in support.
The network has now decided to pull the plug on Allegiance. They’re moving The Slap to 10pm for the remainder of its short run and will fill the 8pm timeslot with special editions of Dateline NBC.
It’s unclear how many episodes of Allegiance will be left unaired or when/if they will see the light of day. Whatever happens, it looks unlikely that the show’s relatively small audience will get any kind of closure.
What do you think? Did you like Allegiance on NBC? Do you think that the network should have cancelled this series? Should they air the remaining episodes?
What the hell? Is North America getting dumber? A good show requiring too much brain power to follow so the network gives up? That is pathetic. I liked it because it requires some thinking to enjoy it, maybe the networks need to analyse why people are not watching? Maybe number of viewers is not the best measure to use so early in the life of the show!
NBC does it again. Cancelling shows and not giving them a fair chance. Why put on three big tv shows opposite the top 3 ABC shows on Thursday. There is so little to watch on Mondays and Tuesdays. Those shows would have done better then and they should have left The Blacklist on Mondays. No rocket science here.
Well, darn. We looked for the show and couldn’t find it last night. So, it’s been cancelled. Too bad it had become one of our favorites. I know it’s similar to The Americans, but I found that show to be too intense and the characters too convinced of the rightness of the Russian side. But Allegiance was really interesting b/c the son was so clever and you just knew he could figure a way out of the whole thing. All great acting, well cast, really sorry it’s gone.
Please at least finish the season with a ending ,enjoyed show
I just finished ep 5 and I’m watching ep6 online. I can’t believe it’s going off.
Where did you find episode 6?
It’s on Hulu
We don’t het Hulu here 🙁
Just type HULU on the address bar or copy/paste: http://www.hulu.com/search?q=Allegiance
Admin – you may want to update this on the canceled list as well as this post.
NBC may not put out a public release on this, but per the NBC website – it’s available via NBC.com or Hulu. They are releasing new episodes at 6pmcst/7pmest on-line only.
I’m good with this format for now.
I see it on Amazon as well. Free if you have Prime and $1.99 per episode if you don’t have prime.
NBC website. It was GOOD! Liars and Thieves S1 E6 | Air Date: 03/12/15 | 42:00 | tv-14
http://www.nbc.com/allegiance/video/liars-and-thieves/2851092?onid=220406#vc220406=1
Canadians aren’t allowed access to Hulu or the NBC online feeds. “Video will not play for your area” 🙁
What about Amazon. They have it. Free per episode if you have Prime. Usually it’s $1.99 per ep if you don’t.
I ditto the previous comments. Why do TV stations cancel shows that are clever gives you “food for thought”. I guess the average person likes the comedy slap kind of shows where one does not need to think!! PLEASE BRING ALLEGIANCE BACK AND CANCEL SLAP. Also enjoy the Blacklist.
I was looking forward to watching the show ( Allegiance). It was well casted and well directed.I also enjoy the Slap. Perhaps a different day and time would help the ratings. I hope NBC don’t take the Slap away.
Extremely disappointed to hear that NBC is cancelling the show. They could have tried a different time and/or night. It does not seem like the are trying to save the show which is too bad because it was quite exciting and refreshing.
I am pissed that they took the show off the air. I was really into the show. Hell, they could’ve given a heads up at least. I should’ve known better than to get into a series from NBC. They always do that with the good shows and keep the crappy, boring shows.
Very disappointed with decision
I loved the show. It was different and can’t believe the ratings were so bad
Great show. Why would NBC cancel it after a few episodes.Typical.If it’s not an instant success they pull the plug. Bring it back. If they cancel the Blacklist, I’ll never watch NBC again
I loved the show and looked forward to watching it after the Blacklist. Wondering why they would still air the show The Slap and not Allegiance. I went to the dvr to watch and thought I had deleted by accident, then noticed there were no shows remaining on scheduled recording.
Unbelievable! I was so sad when I looked this morning and my new favorite show was not there!!! Such a shame when smart television is cancelled before it even has a chance. I appreciated this fresh drama and thought it was a perfect addition to the Blacklist on Thursday evenings. Big Bummer!!! Although, I did go to NBC.com and I found the episode that would have aired last night for those of you looking… even though it only made me want more!
