Anne with an E is coming to an end. The series, which airs on CBC and Netflix has been cancelled after three seasons. There will not be a fourth season of the series. The series finale aired on CBC this week, and Netflix viewers will see the final season on the streaming series in January, per TV Line.
Moira Walley-Beckett, the creator of the series, went to her Instagram to share her reaction to the cancellation of the Netflix series.
After fans learned of the cancellation, Walley-Beckett shared more in a statement to Entertainment Weekly. She said the following:
“The fan support and love for Anne with an E is overwhelming, heartening, and wonderful — how I love these Kindred Spirits. This proves to me how much this show has connected with a diverse audience around the world and how meaningful it is to everyone. I am incredibly proud of these three seasons. Creating Anne with an E was an amazing experience — it was my heart project and I gave all of myself to it. I’m so grateful to my extraordinary cast, crew, writers, and directors for passionately bringing my vision to life.”
In addition, she revealed that fans could see more of Anne with an E at some point. She is not against taking the world and its characters to the big screen at some point.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Anne with an E? Are you sad to hear of the show’s cancellation? Do you want to see the characters head to the big screen?
Please please please, give Anne with an E more seasons. My daughter and I love watching it together (she’s 13 1/2!) and were both crying at the end, excited to see what comes next, only to find out that there will be no 4th season. This is a wonderful show and perfect for families to watch together. Please consider another season or a full length movie to see the beloved characters grow up more and their futures together.
Please don’t let Season 3 of AWAE be its last. I enjoy this show so much.
I want to express my heartfelt desire that AWAE be reconsidered to allow for a season 4. We have really enjoyed the journey of Anne and all of the other characters…myself and my grandaughter love it! The story of Anne and Gilbert was just getting started…how can this be allowed to end when we all want to see more of story. And besides… there was not nearly enough for all us fans to see of Anne and Gilbert together…the whole third season… we were all just waiting to see Anne and Gilbert together…and on final scene …all they did was… Read more »
Noooooo this series was such a great series. I will miss sitting there thinking what’s going to happen next. I wish they didn’t cancel it. It was on of the best series I have ever watched. Thank you to the wonderful people who made this show possible.
I can’t imagine there not being more seasons of Anne. There are plenty of stories and adventures which should be written. Take a deep breath networks and change your minds.
There seems no good reason for not running a fourth series of Anne with an E , when such an incredibly well directed and performed series is so popular and such a breath of fresh air. The networks are missing a trick and disregarding their audience – how cynical and disappointing – unless of course they take a deep breath and change their mind .
Soo,upset! Why did they cancel? I am such a huge fan of Anne of Green Gables. One of my all time favorite books. Bought the doll for my 2 yr old granddaughter. She will read all of these books when she is able. Love the show. I looking forward to all the seasons to full fill the entire book series. Please bring it back!! There is not much good on TV these days. Good shows are hard to come by. Please reconsider.
One of the best Family shows. Netflix needs to step up and continue this show!
It’s not fair to leave the audience in a cliff hanger – we still love to see a 4th season …. my two girls ages 14 and 11 love it so much that watching this Series becomes a family bonding for us which include my husband who is not usually interested in drama series otherwise !!! Please return!!
I love this show so much! It is so refreshing to watch something so wholesome and compelling! Our family watches it together and we are so sad it is coming to an end! Please bring it to the big screen, we will be the first in line! Bravo on a job well done! I think Netflix needs to rethink!
I love Anne with and E. It was the first show I watched when I got Netflix. I can’t believe they cancelled it. I love how it is true to the original character’s personalities in the books & yet I love the addition of a gay best friend for Anne & her girl friends. I binge-watched it and couldn’t wait for the next season. I especially love Anne & Marilla. I will follow Anne with an E whereever it goes. Please try bringing it to Amazon.
My 8 year old daughter and I have loved watching Anne with an E together. We are so sad it’s getting canceled. We would love to see a movie version of it! But even more than that we would love more seasons!!!
We do not want the series to end and of course we will be watching it on the big screen. Wherever Anne with an E goes we will be there for it.
There are almost zero movies that the whole family can watch that are not cartoons . I am a senior and I loved the shows. It was something I loved my grandkids could watch with or without me. I hate everything today has to have sex romance. Its a shame this is being forced on our kids today. When
Will we find people in the industry that will say enough. We need to offer shows that any and every one can enjoy. Sad to think movies with values seem to be a thing of the past. Wake up America.
I didn’t realise a fourth season had been planned. I did think it would be nice to see them all again next year, but season three ended at a natural point. What happened to Anne et al after they went to college is in the books and an old TV series.. I am disappointed to learn that a fourth season had been thought of and cancelled. It was a lovely cast, the best TV version of Anne I’ve ever seen.Perhaps they’ll make specials one day so we aan see their future.
Very sad to see a high quality show without vulgarity, gratuitous sex or violence cancelled. The simple meaningful values in presents are both heartwarming and encouraging. I realize that those qualities in a TV show no longer seem to hold purchase. I am very sad and hope reason and artistry will prevail over money. Sadly I doubt it will. I am not a religious person and my love of quality human values is not based upon on any dictates from any religious tenets nor clerical influence. It jus the right thing to do. I hope you can do the right… Read more »
