After 54 years on the air and 13,858 episodes, As the World Turns has ended.
The last installment aired this afternoon and was filled with closure. Doctor Bob Hughes (Don Hastings) retired from the hospital , Barbara (Colleen Zenk) dissolved her partnership with Paul (Roger Howarth), Casey (Billy Magnussen) left for law school, Chris (Daniel Cosgrove) proposed to Katie (Terri Colombino), Lucinda (Elizabeth Hubbard) and John (Larry Bryggman) got back together, and Janet (Julie Pinson) asked Jack (Michael Park) to be Lorenzo’s godfather.
It seemed like everyone’s storyline was wrapped up in some way, except for Luke (Van Hansis). As fans are well aware, he lost Reid (Eric Sheffer Stevens) last week and yesterday, said goodbye to Noah (Jake Silbermann). The closest he got was to be able to use Reid’s stethoscope to listen to Reid’s heart, now pumping in Chris’ body.
If you missed the farewell episode, here it is…
What do you think? Are you satisfied by the final episode, “The World Stops Turning”? Is there anything you would have done differently?
I LOVED the final episode of ATWT. I’m sad to see the show go, but watching ther final episode has given me closure. I loved how now we can speculate on Casey and Allison’s life together, and Chris and Katie too. It’s nice to know Dusty and Janet are together again with thier beautiful baby Lorenzo. I can now think Carly and Jack are going to make it this time, and I’m so happy for them that they are having another baby. Hope Kim and Bob enjoy their retirement, and have many more happy years together. How cute, that Tom… Read more »
I don’t know why people only say that luke was left without closure….holden and lily are without closure as well.
and everyone knows that one day soon luke will fly over to LA to be with Noah. its going to happen. or if not that, he is young, he will find someone else.
I was really disappointed inthe last show. I just did not think it was enough emotions it did not have everyone in it as i thought it should have . I just seem like it was untied togehter or something just not a good way to end a show that has ran for so long. I have watche d this show since i was a teenger and I am 42 now. and I was really saddened the way it ended. I was thinking it would be more on the lines of Guiding Lights ending, now that was a great way… Read more »
As a long time viewer I was surprised the few seconds that was given to Lisa. This character was one of the backbones of the show for over 40 yrs. I really feel she was snubbed.
As The World Turns will be missed. I have been watching since I was a little girl. Iwould play with my Barbies while my Mum sewed and watched ATWT. I became a fan when I was in my teens because of the Dusty-Lilly-Holden storyline and continued watching through university and working life via the good old fashioned VCR. As a stay at home Mum of 2 young children, I have kept up with the Oakdale news through updates on the internet if I was unable to see an episode. I will miss all the Christmas and Thanksgiving episodes when the… Read more »
It was a good run. Thanks for all your hard work.
I cannot imagine not watching As The World Turns anymore. I loved the soap opera and do not understand why you could not come up with more story lines and episodes because there were so many more to explore. I am sadden by then ending and expected more. I wish you would have thought about different story lines to get the show back on track before just ending it. I could have given you a TON of ideas. I will miss As The World Turns and will not be able to get into another soap opera. I will miss the… Read more »
ATWT failed miserably in delivering an engaging & thoughtful closure finale. Very hollow, indifferent, dissed the most loved couple. Hope those writers are unemployed for long time.
“Are you satisfied by the final episode, “The World Stops Turning”? Is there anything you would have done differently?” Yes and No. I was, I admit, very glad to see some of my couples get a happy ending. However, I am still bitter that Reid is dead, and that Luke, the one character I’ve actually cared about consistently for the past six years, has been left in a state of limbo, mourning and with no real direction clearly given to us for where he will be going next, I feel like his story just wasn’t wrapped up. Obviously I would… Read more »
I was shocked and disappointed when I heard that As The World Turns was being canceled!! I have watched the show from the very begining (54 yrs.)! The show will be greatly missed.
I watched the very first episode of AWTT and today, sadly to say, I was busy and forgot to turn it on to watch the last episode. Thank goodness for the internet, I am able to watch it now. Being a stay at home Mother, I watched all the episodes that I could – ddn’t miss many until I went back into the business world in 1972. The two families were like my own and I wish them all the best.

The last episode started off in a promising way with Dr. Bob Highes talking about the quietness of his day. And despite the hokiness of tying up all the stories with a lovely ribbon of closure, it was okay. But the gross omission of the show was in not thanking its loyal audience for watching (after all, some people have been watching for over 50 years). It was, I think, callous. And why not have the cast address their audience? I have only been watching for about three years but I felt that some acknowledgment of the fans would have been… Read more »
I enjoyed the last episode and appreciated them tying up some loose ends, even though it was done really quickly. I have watched ATWT for over 50 years, probably since close to the beginning of the show and have LOVED it. I will deeply miss watching the antics of the people in Oakdale. I DO think the characters or someone should have addressed all of us faithful watchers. But…….really enjoyed my years with those folks.
Why are all the good soap getting cancel, I’ve watch these soap for many of years. I still can’t believe that today was the last day. One year after Guiding Light was cancel another great soap opera. We would love to see another soap come in place of both these soap CBS needs more time with more soap not these TV show that people really don’t watch.
I’m going to miss AS THE WORLD TURNS it was a great show.
I hated it!! I expected way more emotion. I expected at the end to have all the stars gather and say something to the viewers. There were too many loose ends left. Just wasn’t anywhere near what was anticipated. I will greatly miss the show, felt like I was a part of it since I’d been watching it for over 35 years!!
