It wasn’t a great start for the new series but Awake still outperformed the premieres of (essentially-cancelled) The Firm, and (cancelled) The Playboy Club, and Prime Suspect. If the show can stay at this level of ratings, it’s got a very good chance of being renewed for a second season. It’s amazing how poor a show’s ratings can be on NBC and still be one of the best rated shows on the network.
Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like the Awake TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Renew it. Issacs is a perfect actor for this role. Needs more action. The best episode yet was the one where the son was kidnapped and had to be saved. More like that and it should run quite a while.
Definitely renew! This is one of the best and most original TV shows we’ve had in a very long time. Any viewer with good taste can clearly see that. What NBC needs to do is reshuffle its time slot to something more appropriate that suits the show and its viewers. That being said, people need to get the word out about how good this show really is. Unfortunately, some haven’t even heard of it.
My wife and I LOVE this show. NBC should NOT get rid of this show. The plot line is a thinker but not too deep and the acting keeps me tuning in for more!
I love Awake. Please do not cancel it. Change it to a different tikmje slot. Very good plot formation. One has to pay attention to all the nuances. Very intelligent shows unlike the silly comedies and tried run 0f the mill police shows. I hope to see Awake late next fall in a new time slot.
Smartest & most creative show we’ve seen in years. We hate for each episode to end…like a fine meal. This show is a KEEPER!
This show is one of the most creative shows, taking a new idea and making it work for suspense, emotion, psychology and relationships that keeps you wanting more. I rarely get interested in shows enough where I make sure I watch every episode and this one has me hooked. It even has a back story that they have not gotten into yet that should explain what has happened to the character to make him have two different realities. I will be very disappointed if NBC cancels the show because there are not many shows on the networks now with such… Read more »
Great show making you think. Definitely should be renewed. So much better than other who done it shows
So refreshing to have a show that makes you think. must keep on
This past episode was definitely the best. There are flaws in the show — it leans too heavily on its procedural aspects at times, instead of what’s more interesting about it, the psychological stuff — but it’s a balance that can be ironed out over time. I definitely think NBC should renew, not that I think this is ever going to be a #1 hit, but I think it can do okay… and doing okay is like a runaway success on NBC. Quite simply, there’s nothing NBC can do to put out a show that’s going to do better. They’re… Read more »
Anyone ever wondered about the limits of perception. That is their show. I totally agree with Bill: this one is original and interesting. And I agree with Kris: it needs a bit of time. This time of show will attract a more specific audience (a more niche market so to speak), an audience otherwise bored by the majority of TV shows. So it’ll be less viral than “crappy comedy shows” and will need a bit more time for the word of mouth to do its magic. Weekly may not be the appropriate frequency for this series, though personally I can’t… Read more »
I agree. The plot was week in the first few shows and mainly focused on spousal/child relationships and talking things out with his therapist. The spousal/child relationship is not very interesting because they have no real idea of what his reality consists of now. His perception is so drastically different that there is some dishonest element in the relationship which causes it to be two dimensional. Two dimensional relationships can be a nice part of the back drop and add to the overall show, but they don’t provide very good plot elements or very entertaining. The premise is great and… Read more »
Renew It!
NBC definitely should give Awake a chance to catch on. By words of mouth, people are just starting on the pilot. It’s at 10 pm and it needs cerebral cortex function to watch so most people just record it to watch later. The show is definitely EMMY worthy just for Jason Isaacs’ portrayal of Michael Britten, not to mention the excellent supporting cast.
What I don’t get is the total viewership is very close to renewed show like Grimm but this one is in danger of cancellation??
Awake has the potential to be one of the great TV shows. There is a poignant, almost melancholy element which combines with the intellectual mystery. The “back and forth with the shrinks” goes to the nature of perception, their efforts to force the protagonist to accept their reality and dismiss the other one. Clearly, however, the show lacks the simplistic plot arcs of most TV shows, and thus will be taken off the air, so people can see more reality shows and video game dramas.
I’ve given this show 3 chances …no more, this back and forth with the shrinks is getting tedious and boring. Just because it’s supposed to be “inteligent” does not make it interesting..just boring,
Okay, go back to your mindless reality TV drivel. American attention spans are getting shorter by the year, which is why crappy comedy shows and idiotic musical shows always edge out anything that shows originality or seems interesting. Thank you, my fellow American tv viewers.
damn right!this show is very interesting.Must watch.
