As expected, ABC has cancelled their summer series Black Box after one season of 13 episodes, reports EW.
Black Box revolves around a beautiful and brilliant neuroscientist (Kelly Reilly) who’s hiding the fact that she’s bipolar. The rest of the cast includes Ditch Davey, David Ajala, Terry Kinney, Ali Wong, David Chisum, Laura Fraser, Siobhan Williams, and Vanessa Redgrave.
The series debuted in late April to a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.87 million viewers. It was a mediocre start for the dramatic series and the numbers got progressively worse as new episodes were released. Towards the end of its 13 episode run, Black Box dropped to a 0.6 demo rating with 3.72 million.
The last two episodes aired on July 24th, leaving the main character’s professional fate up in the air.
What do you think? Did you like the Black Box series? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season? Why do you think the show didn’t catch on?
This was a good show and it should have never been cancelled….people that have problems like this can relate to a show like this and the actors were wonderful….bad move not putting it back on….
Fact: mental illness SCARES people! What folks don’t understand, they fear and ostracize. I remember the show “The United States of Tara” for which the actress, Toni Collette won an Emmy. That show dealt with multiple personality disorder. I commend both actresses for taking on a challenging role. Too bad America still has it’s head in the sand about this issue. I thought “Black Box” had great potential, but it’s all about numbers. Hey, Hollywood… give the show another chance!
I loved this show. I watched it every week and recorded it if I wasn’t home. Bring it back!
I am so upset , they should have not canceled the show.
I really really liked this tv programme. I agree with the other comments re this being on a intellectual show. What a shame it was cancelled just when I was getting into an addictive state of wanting more. Maybe it was canned to make room for the so stodgy and brainless reality tv programmes.
I thought this show was amazing. It is too bad they decided to end it with her getting fired. Wrong message for bipolar people. Not that she got fired but that they chose to end the series . I really hope this show comes back–
People are afraid of Mental Illnesses. People don’t realize that knowing more will help to understand a ‘little’ more how to treat people with those disabilities. I a few of my conversations i shock people when I compare that to a deadly disease. Example you know like the cancer patient could be cure,….. or not. There is cure for some kind of cancers and it works,… but if you have a mental disability you are sick for life a time-bomb waiting to explode hurting whole families and communities,… until all ends blowing your brains out. That is a terrible deadly… Read more »
Too bad. This was an excellent show, very different and interesting.
I’m very upset. I thought this was an awesome intellectual show. Mob Doctor and now The Black Box. Come on America, American Idol is on it’s like 15th season and it sucks!
I so agree!!
I enjoyed the show, I really was looking for its return. I enjoyed the show because of its dealing who mental issues.
I think it didn’t do so well because people don’t like to look at themselves in the mirror and thats what they see when watching this show. I loved it and I’m disappointed that it was cancelled. Get rid of all the reality shows and bring back the good ones like Black Box.
I really like this show. Bring it back.
I really liked this show. Was sad to hear it won’t be coming back.
Smh this was a good show, quick to cancel the good shows and put all these unnecessary reality shows on TV. Give the show another chance, It wasn’t anything wrong with it!!
Not only was there nothing wrong with it–it was great. Talk about reality–that was reality–scary at times, moving, and really well done
I really enjoyed the show; wish it was coming back for a second season. I learned a lot about bipolar disease.
I’m so upset! I came online looking for a schedule! Urgh! The show was brilliant!!what will I do now all summer?! Lol
