Jimmy Smits won multiple awards for his work on the LA Law TV series back in the 1990s. Now, he’s back on NBC in another legal drama called Bluff City Law. Will his latest show also be a big success on the peacock network? Will Bluff City Law be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
A legal drama, the Bluff City Law TV series stars Jimmy Smits, Caitlin McGee, Scott Shepherd, Barry Sloane, Michael Luwoye, MaameYaa Boafo, Stony Blyden, and Jayne Atkinson. Coming from a famous Memphis family that’s known for taking on injustice, a brilliant lawyer named Sydney Strait (McGee) used to work at her father Elijah’s celebrated law firm until their tumultuous relationship got in the way. After barely speaking to Elijah (Smits) for years, Sydney is suddenly thrust back into the family fold when her philanthropist mother passes away unexpectedly. In the wake of the loss of his wife and in hopes of reconnecting with the daughter he loves, Elijah asks Sydney to rejoin his Civil Rights firm and take on a chemical company whose product may cause cancer. Despite her lingering resentment and distrust, she agrees because she knows that working alongside her father is her best hope at changing the world — as long as they can find a way to get along. No sooner has Sydney returned than she stumbles on a secret that Elijah has been keeping from her that may change everything.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
11/26 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.

Note: These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like the Bluff City Law TV series on NBC? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
*6/16/20 update: Bluff City Law has been cancelled by NBC so, there won’t be a second season.
Bluff City Law was one of my favorite shows and I am concerned that it may have been cancelled. It had interesting characters and pertinent stories each week! NBC, please reconsider cancelling Bluff City Law!
I truly enjoy Bluff City Law. I love the characters and how we learn new things about them in each episode. I also appreciate seeing the city of Memphis and being able to actually recognize important landmarks. I hope that the show will come back for a second season.
I love this show it is so well written and the characters are developing wonderfully.
I love this show! I enjoyed every episode, and the storylines. The whole cast is great! It is hard finding great television programs. I have been a long time fan of SVU, while watching the promos for Bluff City Law caught my attention. I loved the show from episode 1. Please continue this wonderful show!
I love BCL. I also DVR so I don’t miss an episode. Please reconsider canceling and renew #BLUFFCITYLAWSEASONTWO!
Please do not cancel this show. It’s one of the best legal dramas I’ve seen in a while. Love the way the show combines legal drama with family dynamics.
Absolutely Love Bluff City Law. Don’t cancel a great show, like you have others.
Don’t cancel Bluff City Law..Enjoyed all the episodes…
Please let have Bluff City Love It!!!
Really enjoyed Bluff City Law. A Good Show.
Absolutely love the show! The feel good drama that socked it to big business and Gov’t. Couldn’t wait until the next episode!
It seems that the age group that the ratings is based on wouldn’t know a good show if their lives depended on it. It’s a shame that this show has been cancelled. Relevant content…Real Actors….Well executed! It’s too bad that advertisement makes the world go round. Zombies and An Apocalypse preoccupation freckled with social media losers is destroying the fabric of our society. It’s next to impossible to find a good drama anymore and virtually impossible to keep it on the air. It seems that all of the great actors are being forced to accept roles entitled Zombie 1 and… Read more »
True! Shows so dumbed down the only action is shock value and violence. More reality action on CNN’s impeachment hearings people! LOL I stopped watching tv series on regular basis until BCL surfaced. Maybe Blacklist although a deteriorating running storyline filled with trick flips is becoming boring. Yellowstone offers a little more fresh interest. Blue Bloods ok. Most programming is so shallow themed that people are actually reduced to watching ‘Friends’ reruns? Give us a break! Bluff City Law is the only new show worth my time on a regular basis. Sharp acting, writing, fresh content, intellectual, good, yes. But… Read more »
