Created by Robert and Michelle King, The Good Wife ran for seven seasons on CBS. The series was never a hit in the ratings but it was a source of pride for the network and kept being renewed. How has the Kings’ new summer series, BrainDead, been performing? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On BrainDead, Laurel Healy (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has returned home to Washington, DC to work for her brother, Senator Luke Healy (Danny Pino) on Capitol Hill. She is caught in the midst of two huge problems: the government has stopped working due to budgetary disagreements, and mysterious bugs are eating the brains of a growing number of members of Congress and Hill staffers. The rest of the cast includes Aaron Tveit, Tony Shalhoub, Nikki M. James, Johnny Ray Gill, Charlie Semine, and Jan Maxwell.
Debuting in June, the first episode of BrainDead drew a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.59 million viewers. It was an unimpressive start to be sure and the numbers have fallen much lower as the weeks have progressed. The seventh episode’s ratings represented a new low, drawing a 0.3 demo rating with 1.75 million viewers.
Despite the talent behind the program, it is highly unlikely that CBS will want to invest in a second season of BrainDead. Hopefully the last installments will provide enough closure to satisfy the show’s audience. Episode 11 is scheduled for next week and the last two of the season are set for September 11th.
But, what do you think? Do you like the BrainDead TV show? Should it be cancelled? Would you watch a second season?
10/18 update: CBS has cancelled BrainDead after one season. Details here.
Fantastic show…please bring it back.
Great show! Look forward to watching. CBS has a winner.Renew please.
I love this show! I look forward to watching every week. It’s clever and quirky and the cast is great. Please keep this show. My husband didn’t even know about it until I told him and he enjoys it as well. Dont know where it will go from here but would love to see.
BrainDead is mine and my wife’s favorite show, along with many of our friends!
Just watched the final episode. I would have voted to keep it going if I knew there was that option! I figured it was a “summer replacement” and not intended to continue. Anyhow I can only hope for something of similar quality to come along. Great acting and writing, a very timely theme, suspenseful but funny – I’ll probably watch it all again, like a good book you need to re-read even after (or especially after) knowing the whole story.
One of the smartest shows on a regular network. Such creative, intelligent writing!!
PLEASE renew for Season 2! This show has intelligent humor, and we have fallen in love with the entire cast. So well written, so funny and intriguing, and just the right amount of weird. PLEASE KEEP THE EPISODES COMING!
Brilliant. Too bad the general population would rather be brain dead (poor ratings) than grasp the cleverness of this funny satire.
Loved the show. Hope it is renewed.
LOVE THIS PROGRAM! I would LOVE to see it renewed! The ENTIRE cast is wonderful!
We LOVE Brain Dead. Best political satire ever!
Needs to be given a prime time slot. Moving it to Sunday night at 10pm was a big mistake. Probably lost18 to 49yr olds who had to go to work Monday. Keep this show alive!!
This show needs an audience. It is fantastic. If it were a Netflix show, everyone would be talying about it. I pray for a season 2-4, if not on CBS, somewhere.
Funny show and fun to watch, but I can’t imagine what the storyline would be for a second season. Of course, I didn’t think of space bugs, either.
It is a FANTASTIC show! Witty and timely. Great writing and acting. PLEASE renew it for another season!
Love the show. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is too yummy for words! I’d watch grass grow if she was lying on it. So whatever happens to braindead, put her in something. Anything! (except daytime soaps).
