Though Breakthrough with Tony Robbins had some positive goals and reviews, the viewers just didn’t show up. The show’s been cancelled by NBC after just two episodes.
Self-help master Tony Robbins broke the unfortunate news to his followers yesterday. He tweeted, “Hey everyone! Despite great critical reviews of our show, it has not pulled a large enough audience for 8 pm.”
After being flooded with well-wishes, Robbins wrote, “Thanks 4 the kind comments. I’m proud of what we created & glad it touched U all ‘In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity’ Einstein”
Though NBC hasn’t announced plans to air the remaining four installments, the network has assured Robbins they will see the light of day.
He reported, “Spoke to head of NBC They say show has loyal following, 3 million ppl would be mega hit on any cable. All specials will air maybe Bravo or [MSNBC.]” (In recent interviews, Robbins has been describing the show as a series of specials.)
Robbins followed that up with “NBC said unfortunate nature of competitiveness on tues 8 pm summer no time for show to build audience…Bravo, or MSNBC may be new distribut”
What do you think? Would Breakthrough with Tony Robbins have attracted as many viewers and been a hit on cable?
I am very disappointed that this show was not given a chance… I would definitely watch it with my grandchildren since it is a valuable lesson in overcoming adversity…this is more what the world needs instead of the “fluff and greed” now on the air.
What the hell is going on — the show was brilliant. My kids, wife and I could not wait for episode 3 and low and behold we were surprised when it did not materialize. Has our consciousness sunk so low where competitive shows that show – win at all costs, reign supreme while a truly positive and inspirational show that was valuable to the entire family is canceled. Can the American collective psychology sink any lower. I heard the other day that a child will have witnessed thousands of murders on TV by the time a child reaches 12. Suddenly… Read more »
I’m disappointed too, but not in NBC. Networks have a formula. An equation that requires viewers in order to satisfy sponsors and generate revenue. That equation didn’t balance. It’s not complicated. I’m not disappointed in NBC, I’m actually pretty disappointed in the show. I’m left feeling as though it didn’t push the boundaries that need to be pushed in 2010. I would even say (with so much due respect), that the show had sortof an early 90’s ‘personal growth’ feel to it. My sister lost her husband 2 years ago at 39, when his tractor fell over a retaining wall… Read more »
Amazing show…We’ll scripted & inspiring.
In the reality show world that we are in right now…I guess the time slot was to advanced for the viewers.
Im still a fan!
I have 2 things to say: 1.) There is ABSOLUTLY NOTHING to watch on Thursday through the end of the week – SO CHANGE THE NIGHT IT SHOWS! 2.) Why in the world would a show with at POSTIVE-SPIN be a success? I don’t think people want to be positive any more. With all the negativity today, this show should have started a RALLY-CRY: BREAKTHROUGH ALL THIS NEGATIVITY – BE WINNERS! ! ! We need this show! It needs to be put in front of us so we just MIGHT change our way of thinking! I would hope so. It… Read more »
Since when did any show get a large enough audience in just two shows.. Tony Robbins had 3 million viewers with NO help from the network. And they are cancelling after only 2 shows.. Well guess what NBC.. it was the ONLY show if yours that I watched now I don’ t need to be bothered with NBC, this is a pathetic corporate decision. Kind of makes you wonder if some “wise guy” with a wounded ego set it up just so Robbins would appear to fail. He didn’t go to them .. they went to him now they cancel… Read more »
I am disappointed that the programme was cancelled. As usual, I was preparing to watch the show but only found out it was cancelled when I went online!
I was first introduced to Tony Robbins when my son bought me the whole set of CDs for Christmas, several years ago. From thereon, I’ve watched DVD’s and enjoyed listening toTony Robbins.
Personally, I’ve learnt a lot and have also telling friends about these Tuesday shows. I sure hope that the rest of those shows will be aired.
I did not know that the programme was cancelled and was annoyed at my cablenetwork in the West Indies for messing up the channels. I am really surprised as I really enjoyed and was looking forward to the next episodes. NBC wrong move
The fact that this show did not draw more of an audience is a sad commentary
on the american attitude. And the idiotic game show that replaced it? Give me a break.
NBC is a trash network and should have stayed with at least the six episodes.
In 1992 I attended Tony’s Breakthrough Firewalk weekend in Orlando, Fl. The weekend changed my whole outlook on life. He is the real deal. It appears that the average person prefers to watch reality shows full of negativity and nonsense. What a disgrace. I sure hope some network wakes up to the value he was offering and decides to give the show a go. With optimistic anticipation, Lou DiSanto
I think this was a big mistake. Tony’s show was great and an inspiration for people. The problem with people today is the reality shows such as people hurting themselves pulls more viewers. This is the sad thing that our country has come to. As Zig Zigler said it best, why doesn’t the weather man say that there is a 70% chance of sunshine today opposed to a 30% chance of showers? That is Tony, he has us focus on the positive things in life which bring out the best in us. I wish I could have had him coach… Read more »
I thought that the first two shows were great! They showed real people with real problems and Tony’s solutions worked wonders for them. Something is wrong with network thinking when a fine show like this is cancelled to be replaced, no doubt, by some reality show that will be nothing but nonsense.
I am very dissapointed this show was cancelled. It was the one show I looked forward to seeing each week. I wish NBC would reconsider. Minute To Win It is good a couple of times but do not want to see it every week!
I am surprised this show was not a hit on NBC at 8 pm, and would like to think it will be a hit on a cable channel. I will be looking for it and will be watching. It was a great show!
As many others, I am so disappointed that this show was cancelled. It was inspirational and gave people hope. It was positive in showing the amazing posibilities in overcoming obstacles. I don’t have a computer but today at work I was looking the show up to see what channel did I stumble up on when I found that amazing story about the man in the wheel chair and his wife’s new burden and again about a couple who needed a job and both were given a chance with Tony Robins help. Awh Heck I was going to apply myself to… Read more »
