In a somewhat surprising move, the alphabet network has cut a beloved family drama after five seasons on the air. Season six of Brothers & Sisters won’t be on ABC’s fall schedule.
Brothers & Sisters debuted in 2006 and revolves around the extended Walker family of Pasadena, California. The current season features a large ensemble cast that includes Calista Flockhart, Dave Annable, Gilles Marini, Luke Macfarlane, Matthew Rhys, Patricia Wettig, Rachel Griffiths, Ron Rifkin, and Sally Field.
The family drama was nearly cancelled last year but was ultimately renewed for an abbreviated fifth season. In light of some positive ratings, ABC ordered additional episodes, bringing the season total to 22 installments. Unfortunately, those ratings didn’t last.

The numbers slowly declined over the course of the season but really seemed to take a dip in the latter part of the season, just when execs were trying to figure out if it was worth renewing. Rumors started circulating that Brothers & Sisters would be cancelled and then there was word that ABC was considering an abbreviated sixth season to wrap things up.
In the end, network execs decided there just wasn’t enough interest in the show anymore and wanted to use the post-Desperate Housewives timeslot for a new series.
As a result, last Sunday’s season finale will end up being the series finale for Brothers & Sisters. It’s a sad and unfortunate end for a once popular series.

I cannot believe they are cancelling this show but extend trashy shows like Jersey Shore. This was one of my truely favorite shows. Do shows have to be trashy or have a murder in them every week to keep them on the air? What is wrong with you people!! Do family oriented shows not matter anymore? i love this show!!.. i makes me laugh and cry at the same time !.. it makes Sunday night worth watching TV.. not everyone watches Desperate Housewives !!

This is horrible news. You in the USA are so lucky to have so much good shows on TV. In my country, we are lucky to have two or maybe three good shows per season. And they get often cancelled after just one season. You should be proud on what you have, and not just cancel a show when it’s not having the high rates you hope for. You guy’s are whats wrong with this country.You have a great TV show that caters to normal people…but we all know there are not many of us left.Very disappointed I guess you will put some stupied show on and all the crazies will watch.What does that say about you.

I’m more than sad. I feel like ABC has totally let those of us that like family dramas, down. The canceling of daytime dramas and Brothers and Sisters makes me want to quit watching ABC. I guess I’ll have to get my dramas from cable now.

I love this show and cannot believe it is ending. What is wrong with these tv executives? What are they going to do replace it with more reality shows or perhaps another crime show? As an avid television fan I am very disappointed.

Why is it that everytime you finally find a good show that you just can’t miss an episode it always gets cancelled. Who are these TV exec’s and where do they get their numbers. This is horrible, just horrible. My family gathers every Sunday night to watch this show and now I guess we will have to play cards or something. Crazy people! There is so much trash on TV anymore why don’t they take some of that off.

Wow I am really really sad about this. I have watched this show since the season premiere in 06. I absolutely love it. I love the characters and the writing. With so much trashy tv on the air today it’s nice to see that a simple family dram still has.. or I guess I should say had a place.
