Is Chance getting a second chance? Recently, Hugh Laurie spoke with TVLine about his new Hulu series.
From Kem Nunn and Alexandra Cunningham, the drama stars Hugh Laurie as a forensic neuropsychiatrist. The cast also includes Diane Farr, Lisa Gay Hamilton, Gretchen Mol, Paul Adelstein, and Ethan Suplee.
In the interview, Laurie says Chance is very different from House:
I agree. House was almost like chamber music. It was very heightened and very beautifully constructed. Chance is much more intimate, more vulnerable. The characters are actually revealing parts of themselves in a much less self-conscious way. I think House was aware of itself as a show — deliberately so. [Series creator] David Shore, who’s a genius, deliberately constructed it that way.”
But what about a second season? Hulu’s already ordered a season two, but Laurie’s not sure if there will be one:
I think we still have to earn it. I’m pretty sure that on page 784 of the contract there’s a small [cancellation provision].
I’m in a similar position with The Night Manager. In both cases, [Season 1 follows a novel] and then people go, “All right, now what do we do [in Season 2]?” I don’t know what the hell [a second season of Chance looks like]. And I can pretty confidently say [the producers] don’t either. Maybe they have a plan, and it’s all on a big board somewhere. We’ll just have to wait and see. Maybe we’ll have to put some time travel in it.”
Chance debuts today, October 19th, on Hulu.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Hugh Laurie? Will you watch Chance?
I thought Chance was brilliant, as well as House, and the Night Manager, mainly anything starring Hugh Laurie, even Spooks, circa 2003, playing a British MI-6 Aristocrat, very amusing. Hugh Laurie makes a valid point when mentioning The Night Manager, also a great adaptation, with great characters, but not meant to go much further than the mini-series it was adapted for. There are many screen plays out there right now burdened with this same dilemma, Shut Eye, Berlin Station, Shooter, Designated Survivor. Once they achieve their initial goal, sometimes short sighted, they often fail to look toward the second season.… Read more »

One of the best Hulu Originals ever! Bring on season 2. This is the main reason I stay a subscriber.
Would love to see a Season 2 of Night Manager. Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddelston were magnificent in this James Bondish series. Come on producers, let’s do it!!
I really enjoyed Season 1 of Chance. I’m a huge Hugh Laurie fan so I will watch anything with him in it. I was not disappointed. Like he said, totally different from House but it had it’s own ambiance. Really hope that there’s a Season 2. Eldon Chance is a very interesting character!
Chance is captivating, enjoy film noire. I think it is well done. Hope there’s season 2 and also another season of Night Manager. Hugh Laurie is so convincing, the best.
