It looks like Coach Hayden Fox is staying in retirement. Despite giving the Coach revival sitcom a 13 episode straight-to-series order in March, NBC has now cancelled their plans for the project.
Dateline reports that the decision follows rumblings of creative differences on the sitcom. Only a pilot episode was filmed. While Craig T. Nelson had a deal to be paid for all 13 episodes, the rest of the cast — Andrew Ridings, Malcolm Barrett, Morgan Smith, and original series cast member Bill Fagerbakke — will only be paid for the pilot.
It’s not clear as yet if the producers will try to shop the series elsewhere.
What do you think? Did NBC make the right decision? Would you have watched the new Coach TV series?
I remember Coach as a kid and I loved it!! I just watched the entire series on Netflix! They should be the ones to pick it up, not NBC. I am still holding on to this reunion. If Full House can do it, so can Coach.
Why yes! Some of us DO remember this series, remember it fondly, and were looking forward to the sequel. Unfortunate that the ‘powers that be’ have decided to listen to ‘rumblings’ of a generation that has no memory nor nostalgia for one of the best comedies on television. It had everything … comedy, drama, family values … ah, I have said too much. These are the things that the current controlling swath has no use for. Lots of us out here looked forward to this reboot. So very disappointed that you could not see the forest for the trees .… Read more »
I felt like this was an odd re-boot LOL….I think this is a sign & it should just stay on the shelf…..I mean does anyone really even remember this series – I totally forgot about it til I heard it was going to be re-booted & when I did remember it was like “oh that show – not much of a memory – its kind of dated now……
My husband and I definitely would have watched the show. We both love the actors and their delivery styles. Note to the decision-makers: I realize your demographic is age only until 47 or so, but those of us over 50 have time to watch TV……plus we have money, as most often, our children are educated and out of the house. I think you should be paying more attention to us. Canceling Stalker without giving it a real chance was ridiculous. It’s a good show with wonderful actors. It certainly deserved a second season. Shame on you.
Here here Catherine!! Cheers to you! Bill
I’m glad it was cancelled before it started because it was fine as is and should have been left alone. When I was younger I hated watching Coach because I didn’t get it but I grew older and loved it and was disappointed to hear it was getting revived.
NETFLIX? Just what they need to stay on the cutting edge ot Television programming.
A washed up second rate sitcom that peaked, if that’s the word, years ago. Truly Persistance of Vision. Really.
In what universe did NBC think Coach would do well in the 18-49 demo?!? I’m pretty sure nobody asked for this reboot to begin with.
Netflix should pick it up.
Days of our Lives? Hawaii 5-0? True Bloods? Aside from not even knowing which networks carry these mediocre shows, it’s apparent you have missed the current “golden age of drama” that’s been going on for several years. How can anyone believe that a left over sitcom that was barely average to begin with, could ever make it in this new TV world. Even if you don’t have premium cable, which is where the majority of top quality shows exist, look at the high quality of basic cable nets like AMC & FX. If you can’t afford cable, try Hulu or… Read more »
Best to let cancelled shows from the past remain cancelled.
It wasn’t cancelled. It ran 9 seasons, rated as highly as #2 and made a fortune in syndication. Clearly a loyal following.
Absolutely would have watched it. Built in loyal audience. Highly successful Executive Producers/Creators. I think it would have had a new following from all age groups. It was a big hit with a multi-age audience in it’s first run, why not again! It was a huge hit ! Will intelligent 4 camera sitcoms ever make it back to television? Probably not. So we watch re-runs and laugh out loud. Where did all those incredibly talented writers go? I think they are at home, watching re-runs too. Too bad no-one had the sense to just get out of the way and… Read more »
Apparently, NBC has less good shows than you thought, as Blue bloods and Hawaii 5-0 are CBS shows. Thank you very much for your thoughts……. Bill
NBC needs great comedies and is wrong to let Coach go. The concept was there and they did not stick to it. Scrap those live musicals and give us Coach!
This Show was DOA, just like the movies where they are tuning out of ideas and always quick to remake a movie Network TV and now online websites and now wanting a piece of pie by now wanting to do reboots and just a plain redone TV show. Network TV and movie theaters meaning Hollywood are running out of ideas on what to make, the days of making original movies and tv shows are now slowly beginning to come to a end and with that said online content like Me TV, Anttena TV, Retro TV, Cozi TV, H&I network Family… Read more »
When I first read about the resurrection of Coach, I thought that it was a great idea! I believe that I would have tried to watch every episode. I am very disappointed in the decision by NBC. Perhaps, another network will pick it up……. Bill
I’m disappointed as well…. They need to revamp their entire list of programs on NBC…. I think the only 2 we watch so far are Blue Bloods and Hawaii 5-0. Oh and I still watch Days of Our Lives… have since it started… so yes, my thoughts don’t count on any channels!
Um…5-0 is on cbs
So is Blue Bloods
