Despite reports they were mulling over a revival, CBS has decided its Code Black TV show will remain cancelled. During the Summer 2018 TCAs, Entertainment boss Kelly Kahl said the network was trying to figure out a way to “make it work,” but it seems it is not to be.
A CBS medical drama, Code Black starred Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Rob Lowe, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, and Moon Bloodgood. The series unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The high patient volume dwarfs the resources available to the exceptional staff — creating a condition known as Code Black.
We’re calling it: The would-be Code Black revival is DOA. Although officially cancelled by CBS back in May, the medical drama — which continued to perform solidly in the ratings in the weeks following its axing — regained a (faint) pulse over the summer when CBS president Kelly Kahl indicated that he was reconsidering the decision.
“It’s doing incredibly well, it’s a well-done show. We’d like to figure out a way to maybe make it work,” Kahl told reporters at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. “We’re going to take a look.”
But an insider now tells TVLine that the network will not be bringing Code Black. back for a fourth season.
Code Black: A Look at the Ratings
The third season of Code Black averaged a 0.70 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.66 million viewers. Compared to season two, it was down by 27% and 5%, respectively, and ranked 21st out of the 26 scripted series the network ran during the regular television season. In that context, the decision to nix the revival makes sense, even if it is disappointing.
What do you think? Were you a fan of the Code Black TV series? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season?
I enjoyed watching Code Black.. I don’t care for Young Sheldon or some of the other stupid crap on CBS. Just an example of what could get cancelled.. It surely wouldn’t be missed in this household.. Could also cancel the political bs which also many of us switch or tune out anyways.
