Code Black just wrapped its third and final season, but is there a chance for more? Recently, creator Michael Seitzman spoke with Deadline about the possible future of the cancelled CBS TV show.
The medical drama unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Rob Lowe.
In the interview, Seitzman said he’s proud of the how Code Black ended:
One of the things I always wanted to explore in the show is the nature of grief. I wanted to be honest about it, face it head on, and really explore how messy it is, how mysterious it is, and how miraculous it is when we finally see some light. The way we dealt with it for all three seasons, with our patients and our doctors, is something I’m very proud of, especially the way we delved into it with Rob Lowe’s Ethan Willis this season, in looking at his PTSD and the way his mind processed his grief and guilt when it came to his brother.”
However, the CBS series creator revealed he did have plans for a fourth season:
There’s an aspect to Ryan McGarry’s documentary, which inspired the show, which I always found interesting. When the staff was moving from the old LA County Medical Center to the new one. It shook them up in a very particular way. In a way, there were ghosts in that old building that they found they needed and those ghosts didn’t exist in the new building. It affected the way they approached their jobs and their patients and they wondered if they could still be as intimate with them in the new building. I always wanted to do that in Code Black, take our staff out of Angels Memorial and see what would happen if we moved them into a new building. Flying a plane into Angels seemed to make that an easy creative transition.”
And what are the chances of a renewal from another network? Seitzman says they’re all still hopeful:
The studio has reached out to all of the streaming services. To be honest, we haven’t heard back from them yet. We’re hopeful.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Code Black? Would you watch a fourth season?

Yes!!!!! I absolutely love that show and was heartbroken when I found out it was canceled. Love the story lines. Always made me cry one was or another! Let me know what I can do to help!
My husband and I love the show. We can’t understand why it was cancelled. Sometimes you have to stand for excellence not ratings! Be proud of what you present!
I’m totally baffled about what could have gone wrong for this series. I think it’s an excellent program. Great actors, exciting storyline, character interactions are all excellent. I can’t think of a show that’s better. These actors and their audience deserve better than this. Please, do not scrap this series. It’s working in every way, so don’t drop it, please ! WHY?
PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL SUCH A GREAT SHOW!!! Code Black is the most awesome show on T.V. The actors are phenomenal and do an amazing job. It’s the one and only show I look forward to watching every week!!
This is one of the best shows on TV. Not sure why the ratings are so bad unless its the time slot or that CBS doesn’t promote it at all. Another network has to pick it up.
Please don’t cancel code black!!! It’s the best show on TV right now, my absolute favorite!!! I look sooo forward to watching every week!!! Pleas bring it back.
I have watched Code Black from the beginning of thee series on CBS. The cast is supurb, and the story line is engaging and entertaining. I am disappointed that CBS has decided to discontinue this fine series. I am sure I am not alone in expressing my dismay with CBS!

I love the show. I watched from easy one. This is one show I always made the time to see instead of one demand. I sure hope my voice counts. I am devastated!!
We love the show. Please bring it back
We love code black. Please bring it back
Please don’t cancel “Code Black”. I love the stories, they get to your heart. I don’t have access to much tv so I purchased All Access by Amazon just to be able to watch it. Most of the rest of programming is garbage, including the news. I watch other shows on CBS but by far Code Black is one I look forward to. Please bring it back next year.
