Tonight’s installment is the last episode of USA Network’s Common Law series — either for the season or for the series. It remains to be seen if this TV show will be cancelled or renewed for a second season.
Common Law follows a pair of LAPD detectives — Travis Marks (Michael Ealy) and Wes Mitchell (Warren Kole). They bicker but their talents mesh so well that their commanding officer, Captain Sutton (Jack McGee), orders them into counselling to keep the team together. Others in the cast include Sonya Walger, Elizabeth Chomko, Alicia Coppola, Nora Zehetner, and Reed Diamond.
The show debuted back on May 11th to 2.48 million viewers with a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic. In terms of viewers, that was about 30% lower than Fairly Legal’s second season premiere a couple months earlier. Common Law did however significantly outperform the ninth episode of Fairly Legal that preceded it.

Over the course of the season, Common Law’s ratings have declined and that’s not positive. At the end of July, they hit a new low with 1.76 million and a 0.5 demo rating. The season has averaged 2.13 million with a 0.6 demo rating.
The show is the lowest-rated scripted series currently on USA. That’s somewhat understandable because it does air on Friday nights, a lesser-watched night of television. Still, Common Law’s numbers are worse than Fairly Legal’s season average (which also aired on Fridays) and much lower than the other scripted shows on USA this summer.
What will USA do? It’s hard to say but, based on the ratings, there doesn’t seem to be an overwhelming reason for them to renew Common Law for a second season.
But, what do you think? Do you like Common Law? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed? Which way do you think USA will go?
Keep it! Good show very entertaining.
Great show, just needs some time to build an audience. USA, don’t get like the majors and pull a show before it can build some word of mouth to grow their audience.
Keep it………..Stop getting rid of good shows for christ sake!!!! The last epi of the season was great! Stop, listen to the viewers, and give it a chance to find it’s niche with the audience!!!!
Keep it!!! I love this show. Great cop stories and hilarious bickering. It’s a great show!!
Renew it and put it on another night
*Love* this show! Great balance of action and humor, touches on the buddy cop and black guy/white guy issues but with new twists, and shouldn’t have been left on Friday nights alone with no other new episode show.
I love this show! I also agree it needs a better night! When they set a show up to fail I mean what do they expect! Friday! Lets move it to a Monday. Not much to compete with until Grimm comes back on and its not a party night. Plus it comes on at 10! With a young child I find myself always DVR’ing it and watching it saturday! Please renew USA!!!!
Hello I say RENEW it for a Season 2 10000000000000% It’s an Awesome Show I watched it from the Start and its brilliant Also I would like to State HOW come Show with HIGH Ratings SUCH as this SHOW has HIGH Ratings how come people SAY it should be cancellend HERE look at this and tell ME HOW You come up with Cancel the SHOW When I see Renew the Show its got HIGH Ratings. ( http://www.tvrage.com/Common_Law/episode_list )
Antony » Because those ratings aren’t important to the network. They’re interested in viewership and how many people see the commercials. That’s how they pay for production.
To TV Admin – they only care about the 18 – 49 (moving to 55,btw) which is narrow minded and a loser deal under a lot of circumstances. I was unable to watch ANY TV when I was younger because I was busy working and raising a family. Given that the over 50 crowd seems to me to be better set financially with more time and discretionary income – it all seems like a ridiculous system to base a series potential and thus increase ad revenues under the circumstances. I could point out the success of CBS who chooses to… Read more »
Bring it back! Addictive couldn’t wait for the next episode love it!
Cancel that bad show. The last thing we need is for USA to keep wasting its money on shows nobody watches. Fairly Legal is another ratings stinker that should have gone last year.
USA is sliding backwards in the ratings because they have started to adopt the “let’s pretend our shows are hits and renew them” strategy that got NBC from first to last.
They need to cancel that show and at least half of their other shows to make space for better shows.
Tell Me How it should be Cancelled by what You are saying when its TVRAGE Ratings are of the Chart ( http://www.tvrage.com/Common_Law/episode_list ) Please Tell Me Im baffeled……. ?????????
The ratings you talk about are irrelevant. Only 4 or 5 people voted for the episodes in the site you mentioned. USA cares about viewership in the 18-49 age range. Those numbers have been bad. In my opinion one of the problems with Common Law is the lack of a ensemble cast. The show is all about Travis and Wes. You could lose the captain and the doc from the show, since they don’t appear much in the show anyway. Also, a good recurring cast is non-existent in Common Law. USA has great shows with much better writers and a… Read more »
Please renew. Great show. Don’t bury it on Friday.
Please renew and do not bury it on Friday nights.
Its such a waste is this show won’t continue on on their second season..Im surprise to read the article about the shows future not having been decided yet..I personally think the show is a breath of fresh air than the other detective/police shows on tv at the moment..hopefully the network will decided to let it continue..
Please renew!!! Love this show!! USA Network has the best shows on television.
KEEP IT! It is a funny, entertaining, dramatic show….MUCH better than Fairly Legal. I agree with Paul…put it on a different night..It DOES deserve better!!!!!
