ABC has made a decision about the fate of their new Conviction TV show. The network has decided not to order any episodes beyond the initial 13 episodes. Has the series been cancelled? Could it return for a second season?
A legal drama series, Conviction follows what happens when attorney Hayes Morrison (Hayley Atwell), the daughter of a former President, gets “blackmailed” into joining the Conviction Integrity Unit. It’s a NYC department that re-examines cases when there is suspicion of wrongful conviction. The rest of the cast includes Eddie Cahill, Shawn Ashmore, Merrin Dungey, Emily Kinney, Manny Montana, and Daniel Franzese.
It’s no secret that the Conviction series has been struggling in the ratings. The series debuted in October to a disappointing 0.92 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.17 million viewers. The numbers saw a sizable drop in week two and got even worse in later weeks. This week’s installment fell to a new low with just a 0.6 in the demo and 3.64 million.
Deadline reports that ABC isn’t ordering any additional episodes but the network hasn’t officially cancelled Conviction. They’re keeping their options open by keeping the cast under contract, just in case they want to order a second season. This scenario will sound familiar to fans of other ratings-challenged ABC dramas from years past. Typically these shows don’t end up being renewed, many viewers about them, and they are quietly cancelled in May.
For now, ABC is expected to air the remaining eight episodes of Conviction. However, with such poor ratings, it seems unlikely that they’ll keep it in the Mondays at 10pm timeslot.
It’s worth noting that the network recently cut the episode order for their low-rated Thursday night series, Notorious.
What do you think? Do you like the Conviction TV show? Do you think that it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
RENEW IT ITS A GREAT SHOW
I love this show … we need to see more of fighting for the truth and righteous keep it … PLEASE!
Renew!!! Loved it.
I enjoyed this show, much better than the reality crap they keep on TV now days!
Conviction is a great show! The story lines (plot) and acting are worth watching. Maybe there was people that didn’t watch because they didn’t know it existed. I believe ABC should order a second season. Advertise it more try a different angle give it another shot take a risk that will gain a wider audience. and boost ratings. Come on ABC what do you have to lose?
I think Conviction is great I love all the is it on or is it off shan ani gins! ! Please don’t cancel this thumbs up for me !!
Chelle scully
Keep Conviction!!! AND NOTORIUS!!! PLEASEEEEEE THOSE ARE MY FAVIROTE NEW TV SHOWS!!!!!!!
This is one of my top 3 shows and I watch more than 30 shows. Do not cancel this show it’s different and uniquely well done. I’m tired of channels rating shows just off of live viewers you need to consider most people do not watch anything live anymore and don’t care to or have to. A show should not suffer for the ease of not having to watch it live. The way ratings are scored is not fair or accurate too many great shows have been cancelled due to this and too many reality shows are getting free passes.
PLEASE PLEASE DON’T CANCEL SHOW LOVE IT. The cast is great
Have loved the show. Would be disappointing if they cancel it. It’s just getting good.
I love this show and have missed it for the oast few weeks. I hope it isn’t cancelled.
Different stories. very good. great cast. bring it back, please.
Bring it back. It’s different. That should be enough. It’s also very good. Good stories, good cast.
Please renew conviction!!!
Please don’t cancel this show! It’s a great show, with a great cast, interesting characters and interesting plotlines.
