A day before the network’s official upfront presentation for advertisers, CBS has cancelled Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior. The spin-off will end after just one season.
Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior follows a highly-trained team of agents who operate within the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU). They use unique and hard-hitting tactics to bring down some of the country’s most dangerous felons. The TV series stars Forest Whitaker, Janeane Garofalo, Michael Kelly, Beau Garrett, Matt Ryan, and Kirsten Vangsness.
While spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles got off to an immediate great start back in 2009, the same can’t be said for CBS’ latest spin-off, Suspect Behavior. In February, it debuted to a 3.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 13.06 million viewers. That was a solid start but then the second episode dropped 27% to a 2.4 rating and 9.8 million. By the fourth episode, it had fallen to a 2.2 demo rating.

The ratings have gone up and down a bit over the course of the season but has gone as low as a 2.1 in the demo a couple times. It currently averages a 2.4 rating and 9.84 million viewers, more than a whole point below its lead-in and parent series, Criminal Minds. Those numbers put it squarely on the bubble for renewal.
There was talk about bringing Suspect Behavior back for another round, possibly after doing a revamp, but the network’s decided against it. They likely have other procedurals waiting in the wings that believe can do better so CBS has cancelled Suspect Behavior after one season.
A baker’s dozen of episodes have been produced and so far, 11 of them have aired. The remaining two are expected to run tomorrow and next Wednesday night, May 25th, as previously scheduled.
The series finale is called “Death by a Thousand Cuts” and finds the team tracking a serial killer who randomly shoots people in crowded areas.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior won’t be back for a second season? Why do you think this one didn’t catch on?

I am really sad to hear that the show won’t be back ! CBS is making a big mistake! I thought the show was great!
Janeane Garafalo is such a horrible anti-military anti-law enforcement it made me nauseous to see her in a Criminal Minds. CBS, I am an avid Criminal Minds fan and you should know that casting a looney liberal like her is a major turn off. She is such a scum-bag there is no way she can convincingly play an FBI agent.
I liked this show. I would really like to see it come back for another season. It really makes me mad that all the good shows get cancelled and all the stupid medical dramas stay around forever. If anything cancel one of those shows and keep this one. I think its great!!!
skew you all. this is a great show. f cbs! tv networks are so f ing stupid. they always cancel the good shows and keep the stupid ones. i hate that. they leave a cliffhanger at the end then we never get to see what happens. f that.
I agree with most of the comments. Forrest Whitaker was awful in this series. Overacted melodrama in every scene. Janeane Garafalo was also terrible. She has never been a good actress. She always plays herself. In the last scene of the final episode, when she is fearing for her life, I thought she was going to burst out in laughter. It was that insincere. My only misgivings concerning the cancellation of the series are that the plot lines seemed to be improving over the course of the season and the last episode was a cliffhanger that will never be resolved.… Read more »
I’m glad it was cancelled. The dialogue was terrible–everyone either muttered or had an accent difficult to understand. Even with the volume turned up, I missed half the words. What an awful show! But I love Criminal Minds and am glad that one was renewed.
Smart move… that show is the worst. I used to be a fan of Forest Whitaker but he is dreadful in this part… talk about overacting. And Garofalo is horrible as well. The other cast members were just okay, but the ensemble never clicked like it did with the original series, even when they added and removed members of the team. The writing and plot lines on Suspect Behavior were not up to par either. I think cancelling this show was a wise move. But it still doesn’t redeem CBS in my eyes for signing Ashton Kutcher for Two and… Read more »
To me, Whitaker is hard to watch, there is something about him, like he is trying to hard to act or something. Garofalo is just such and awful person in real life, that I just get mad every time she is on screen, I could not enjoy the show while she was on. I think the casting is what killed this show. There is no other reason why it should not have worked.
Call me weird but I really liked this team and the background stories that were coming to life about each of the characters. I for one will be really sad if they don’t bring it back for a second season to see what the characters can do with it.
Ok CBS at least if u r canceling this show then put Matt Ryan on criminal minds. That would help me a lot
F*** u CBS!!!!! I loved that show!!!!!!!
garafalo really sucked, show was way to pc. glad its gone
Garafalo was the biggest mistake anyone could have made.
I agree. Without her the show may have had a chance.
Bad casting. Especially Garafalo
The worst dialog and acting ever. So disappointed in Forest Whitaker and Janeane Garofalo. It’s a bummer because I’ve loved everything they’ve done until now. It’s painful to watch. The acting is horrible and the storylines are ridiculously stupid.
AGREED! And I thought it was just me… Every piece of dialogue I felt like I had heard before, and the acting just wasn’t believable. 😮 Such a shame. So much promise, all to disappointment.
