It’s hard to believe that Dateline has been on the air for 23 seasons. Many NBC news shows have come and gone but this one keeps chugging along — and is sometimes one of the top-rated shows on Friday nights. It’s hard to imagine that the series would be cancelled but you never know. Stay tuned.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/13 update: NBC has renewed Dateline for the 2015-16 season.
9/19 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here.
For comparisons: The 22nd season of Dateline averaged a 1.2 rating in the demo and 6.23 million viewers.
Note: Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Dateline TV series? Would you like to see it cancelled or renewed for a 24th season?
Speaking of Dateline, what ever happened to the nice looking tall guy that used to catch the preditors? Getting caught leaving that motel should be old news by now. He was fantastic! Come on TV guide person… where is he?
Chris hanson is his name. I always wondered what happened to him too.
I hope we get to keep Dateline… I have watched for years!
It’s a shame the young people get to dictate to what older people watch! All votes should be equal!!!!!
You do know that when I click on ‘Constantine’ I get ‘Dateline’ instead?
Yes, it was on purpose of course lol (it’s been fixed)
constantine is not as good like the movie…… hope its get better
What else do we have to watch on Fridays ? There is nothing else !
What about THE AMAZING RACE? or BLOOD BLOODS? or HAWAII 5-0?
Elaine has a great idea. Yes, I do love to watch Dateline and their stories are great, if not very sad, but a one hour time frame could certainly work for all if not some of these stories.
Thanks Rose, I really think Datelines ratings would go up if they changed to 1hr. There are times the stories look interesting but I just don’t have the 2 hrs for 1 story. I can’t believe I’m the only one that feels this way.
Elaine,
when you’re right, you’re right. I did get to watch the 1 HOUR episode on Friday!
While I do love Dateline I don’t always watch it. I have to ask myself do I really have 2 hours just to hear 1 story. . Other networks & programs can tell 1 story in 1 hour & do a great job too. I’m using this forum to ask NBC if they could PLEASE change Dateline to a 1 hour program. I know some of it is financial that they can get viewers for 2 hours instead of 1 for the same $$$. But sometimes I haven’t watched Dateline for just that reason ….. I don’t have 2 hours.… Read more »
I know how you feel. I like Dateline but they need to go back to 1 hour shows. The 2 hours seem to repeat things over and over again and you can get to the point in 1 hour. I am recording tonight’s show which is 2 hours but Please go back to 1 hour.
My favorite show!!
