Charlie Sheen and CBS’ Two and a Half Men have played havoc with the other network’s schedules for years. The sitcom is one of the top-rated shows on television and sometimes reruns outperform the competition. Now, Sheen is helping ABC for a change.
ABC News has landed an exclusive interview with the troubled actor and will air it on Tuesday night on a special edition of 20/20. The special edition will no doubt get huge ratings.
To make room for the interview, ABC has once again pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7, the network’s lowest-rated scripted series. From a ratings standpoint, just about anything they can put in that timeslot will perform as well or better than Detroit 1-8-7. Last week’s special edition of Primetime garnered a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.14 million viewers. That’s certainly not a great performance but it is 14% better than the previous episode of Detroit 1-8-7.
As frustrating as this may be to fans of the crime drama, ABC isn’t likely to stop pre-empting it. On the positive side, Detroit 1-8-7 remains on next week’s schedule, for now at least. At this point, the show is all but cancelled and the network is essentially burning off the remaining episodes. There are three episodes left in this season and there’s no way that its coming back for season two.
What do you think? Will ABC get around to airing the three remaining episodes of Detroit 1-8-7?
I’d watch Detroit 1-8-7 before wasting my time with anything involving Charlie Sheen.
Detroit 187 will be a huge loss if it does not return. Just when things were starting to come back for Detroit……. I enjoyed getting to know the cast on the show. I wish that others would have given it a chance. ;~(((
I love 187, as a retired Law Enforcement Officer it is one of the best and accurate crime shows on TV. The other is ABC’s Castle. ABC has been taking hits due to the fact that CBS has been taking viewers away. They put 1-8-7 up against “The Good Wife” and there are more female viewers than men(that is a fact) I am a loyal viewer of 1-8-7 and hope that they just move it to another time slot instead of canceling it.
I love Detroit 187! It’s one of the best shows on television today!
Detroit 187 is the best! It is the only show for which I will turn on the TV.
Detroit 187 is the only show I enjoy watching on TV. This shows has a great cast , plot and it has better quality than other shows on television. Instead, abc should cancel modern family and other shows of lower quality.
Great show to watch. Really stupid decision to cancel. Let’s hope TNT picks it up like Southland. Good job ABC. You guys know how to make great tv then give it away for that jackass Sheen
If nothing else, Detroit 1*8*7 is trying to serve as a warning to the rest of this country: keep outsourcing everything, so that no one has a job and therefore no one has any extra money to buy anything, and your city too will turn into a bunch of vacant lots, where thousands of houses used to stand, and a bunch of concrete shells, that used to house vibrant industries. And it certainly doesn’t hurt, while the show is giving this warning, that it also happens to be incredibly acted and wonderfully scripted. But I guess the rest of the… Read more »
I can’t believe that Detroit 1-8-7 is on the chopping block. This is one of the best drama series on air. I forward weekly for the next new episode. If ABC drop this diamond, I’m sure someone will pick it up and cash in on it.
I loved the episodes that I have seen thus far. The ratings can only improve. I remain a BIG fan of Detroit 1-8-7 and realize that there is a place for this type of niche series which offers such raw intensity and realistic characters. Finally, I must say that I miss it!!!
I very much enjoy Detroit 1-8-7. Why doesn’t the network advertise the show more? Also another reason it may be low in the ratings is because it runs at the same time as another good show, The Good Wife. I have to tape one of them in order to see them both. ABC should move it around rather than preempt it with ridiculous specials that no one wants to see. Some other nights I don’t even turn my TV on–it seems like they could find it a good time slot and it would be watched.
I can’t believe that ABC and 2020 pre empted Detroit 187 with that trash about loser Charlie Sheen,
It is sad to think that 1-8-7 is going to be canceled, by far it is the best police procedural on TV, just behind “Southland”. I feel like I am at work when I watch both shows, hopefully TNT or FX will see the value in the show and keep it alive. To think Charlie Sheen makes 3 million an episode for that show, which should cost 3 million and episode to produce, is pretty disappointing. I watched several episodes of the show in the very past and found it to be about as funny as Cancer. This show is… Read more »
Detroit 187 has one of the best casts, acting, production, direction, DAMN IT”S a GREAT PROGRAM with moral dilemmas, suspense, etc. AND then they substitute an interview with Sheen who “stars” in a program with no humour, no plot, redundant and repetitive situations revolving around sex play without passion or compassion.
I look at the premise for 20/20, and see none of it’s “goals” attained by having Sheen interviewed. IF 20/20 raised the ratings, I fear for society.
Detroit 187 is an excellent show. Who cares about Charlie Sheen, that drunken nut-case? He and Mel Gibson are two of a kind.
It looks like Newton Minnow’s “Vast Wasteland” is back; in fact, it never went away.
