On Tuesday, ABC pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7 with a special edition of 20/20 in which Diane Sawyer interviewed Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s husband about the Tucson shooting. Based on the preliminary ratings for the program, ABC made a good choice. It attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.18 million total viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they’re a 30% improvement over last week’s episode of Detroit 1-8-7 (1.0 in the demo with 5.05 million).
Next week, the cop drama will be replaced by the annual State of the Union address. Right now, Detroit 1-8-7 is scheduled to return on February 1st but one has to wonder if that will actually happen. ABC has a track record of pre-empting low-rated shows with the intention of bringing them back but it just never happens.
The network has ordered 18 installments of Detroit 1-8-7 and 12 of those have aired so far. It would seem like a waste not to air the remaining six but the same could be said for the leftover seven episodes of The Whole Truth. If ABC can keep coming up with specials that will perform better, we may likely have seen the last of low-rated Detroit 1-8-7.
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 return to the regular schedule or lost in hiatus and cancelled?

My wife and I enjoy Detroit 187. It has been one the premere shows on t.v. this year!!! Acting and stories are very real. Sometimes too real for bedtime but and excellent cast and believable.. KEEP IT ON!
DO NOT CANCEL
Detroit 187 is a wonderful, well-written show. I record Good Wife and watch this in real time, they are both fantastic and maybe a change in the schedule would benefit it. Good Wife is incredibly good as well so I’m sure many viewers choose this without ever having seen Detroit 187. ABC reconsider!
The best American TV show yet .Please lets have more of this great show.
why dont they just change the time slot its a great show
Please don’t cancel this show!!! We live in Metro Detroit and we love the acting, writing, and overall sleekness of Detroit 187! Not only is it one of the best shows on television, we are proud to have the show filmed right here in the “D”. Michael Imperioli is one of the best actors of our time and if he’s not nominated for an Emmy in the very near future, it is a tragedy! Give the show at least one more season. It is picking up steam and all of my friends are either watching the show or are planning… Read more »
PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL DETROIT 187, THIS IS BY FAR MY FAVORITE CRIME SHOW AND WOULD BE A GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT TO SEE IT GET CANCELLED.
Please do not cancel!!! It is one of the best cop shows ever canceling it would be a huge mistake!!!!”
Detroit 187 is a great show that seems to get better every week. It also takes a real look at what goes on in one of the most troubled cities in the country. ABC seems to cancel shows that make you feel or think, leaving in their place sit-coms that just aren’t funny anymore. Some of the cable channels are picking up shows like Southland (and others that the networks cancelled) which is great because in the end we will all be watching USA or TNT while the networks continue with their contrived reality shows that appeal to the crowd… Read more »
Detroit 187 is great. Why would you cancel it?
I quit watching “The Good Wife” and started watching it instead and was very satisfied.
Love it!!! Please allow time to build an audience. It is superior to anything else offered on network TV!!!
I hope it continues. Give it a chance to build a following
Do not cancel “Detroit 1-8-7 !” It’s a great show. Give it time to build an audience.
dont cancel detroit 187 please
this is one of the few well-written, well-cast shows on tv these days. don’t cancel this show, its really the only thing out there i even enjoy watching.
imperioli is perfect, a wonderful actor for the part. and the show’s supporting cast is amazing.
i agree with the above comment that you “keep junk like mr sunshine” but won’t push on with a great show like detroit 187.
i hope it stays.
