On Tuesday, ABC pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7 with a special edition of 20/20 in which Diane Sawyer interviewed Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s husband about the Tucson shooting. Based on the preliminary ratings for the program, ABC made a good choice. It attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.18 million total viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they’re a 30% improvement over last week’s episode of Detroit 1-8-7 (1.0 in the demo with 5.05 million).
Next week, the cop drama will be replaced by the annual State of the Union address. Right now, Detroit 1-8-7 is scheduled to return on February 1st but one has to wonder if that will actually happen. ABC has a track record of pre-empting low-rated shows with the intention of bringing them back but it just never happens.
The network has ordered 18 installments of Detroit 1-8-7 and 12 of those have aired so far. It would seem like a waste not to air the remaining six but the same could be said for the leftover seven episodes of The Whole Truth. If ABC can keep coming up with specials that will perform better, we may likely have seen the last of low-rated Detroit 1-8-7.
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 return to the regular schedule or lost in hiatus and cancelled?

If they cancelled it maybe it find new life on cable like “Southland” where they can get away with more grit.
I took interest in this show when I first saw the previews, I was not disappointed. Detroit 187 is the best show on TV since The Unit on CBS. I agree with the previous comment, Detroit 187 should not have been placed opposite The Good Wife. This scheduling has certainly caused problems in my family.
I hope this show is not canceled!!!!! I am orginally from Michigan and my parents were born in Detroit, eventually plan on moving back and this show is the only way I can see my home!!! Whhhhaaaa Waaaaaa! Somebody needs to be keeping this show on the air!
I want my Detroit 1-8-7
Detroit 187 is a show that needs to be on TV.
Give it a chance!
It is one of our favorite shows.
ABC placed Detroit 187 against The Good Wife, one of the most popular TV shows. That was ABC’s mistake. D 187 is a very good show and my wife and I would not want to see it dropped. We also watch The Good Wife and record one and watch the other live. ABC should look at another time slot if they can’t stand the competition. There have been many shows that took a year or more to gain a following that was acceptable to continue broadcast companies.
Well, I like this show, so we can be pretty much guaranteed that it will be cancelled.
Please don’t cancel this show. I look forward to it every week. Give it a chance to find its audience. Please.
I absolutely LOVE this show. I always looked forward to Tuesday nights so that I could sit down and enjoy “real” tv, not fake “reality” shows. Please continue this show and continue to bring us more shows with substance!
I hope they don’t cancel this show. I really love it. All the main characters are worth watching, and the plots have been good.
Detroit 1-8-7 is best show on TV. Please do not cancel the show! Who do we have to write to ?
I love this show! My husband who does not watch series televison normally. He actually sits and watches this show with me and knows when the show is scheduled. This is one of the best new shows of the season! I was a late fan due to outside events and not enough adverstisment but I am loyal now! Please BRING BACK THIS SHOW!
Detroit 187 is one of the BEST shows on TV. I don’t understand ABC…it keeps shows that are horrible and cancels shows that are GREAT. If you don’t keep Detroit, you’re making a VERY big mistake…this show deserves more than ABC is giving it. Shame on you ABC if you don’t renew this show!!!!
This is the only new show this season that I got interested in and loved. It just isn’t a regular crime investigation show like most shows are now days. This reminds me of the shows I grew up with in the 70’s. I love it and the actors are great. Also it’s great in have a show that is in Detroit instead of the usual New York or Los Angeles. Shame on ABC for not giving it more of a chance.
PLEASE, PLEASE do not cancel this show. It is so good. The acting is superb and the repertory cast is excellent. It’s realistic and hard-edged and so refreshingly believable. Much more so than “Blue Bloods.” Michael Imperiali is brilliant. Please give it a chance to catch on. Have some faith here.
Most networks are looking for instant success for their shows. If it doesn’t happen quick enough they’ll have something else cranked out and onto their schedule it goes. Detroit 187 and Southland are real cop shows, not the boobs and glitzy light effects on CSI Miami, and lets not forget the disections they do for added shock value. Reality shows are cheap to put together with no actors to pay. This is why the networks continue to make this junk. Unfortunatly the new generation of tv viewers thinks this is great. At least ABC axed the terrible COUGAR TOWN with… Read more »
