On Tuesday, ABC pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7 with a special edition of 20/20 in which Diane Sawyer interviewed Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s husband about the Tucson shooting. Based on the preliminary ratings for the program, ABC made a good choice. It attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.18 million total viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they’re a 30% improvement over last week’s episode of Detroit 1-8-7 (1.0 in the demo with 5.05 million).
Next week, the cop drama will be replaced by the annual State of the Union address. Right now, Detroit 1-8-7 is scheduled to return on February 1st but one has to wonder if that will actually happen. ABC has a track record of pre-empting low-rated shows with the intention of bringing them back but it just never happens.
The network has ordered 18 installments of Detroit 1-8-7 and 12 of those have aired so far. It would seem like a waste not to air the remaining six but the same could be said for the leftover seven episodes of The Whole Truth. If ABC can keep coming up with specials that will perform better, we may likely have seen the last of low-rated Detroit 1-8-7.
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 return to the regular schedule or lost in hiatus and cancelled?

Love this show. Hope so much that is comes back.
Our family loves this show of all the new ones this year. Please, please don’t cancel it.
It’s one of the best shows running right now. I put it right up there with NYPD Blue. ABC needs to realize that people like good entertainment. Besides where do they get their info, no one as my friends and I. If ABC doesn’t have the sense to carry it I hope another net work picks it up.
At Hiddenburg Project, great shooting!
The best drama on traditional network TV right now. Super acting, great settings, excellent plot, and themes Americans need to experience. Hope another network picks it up if ABC cancels them.
To cancel Detroit would be a gross mistake. There is so little on commercial TV that is watchable and holds my interest. The cast is magnificent and the stories gripping. Do not cancel this show.
Cancel Detroit 187 and I will never support ABC or watch anything on ABC again. This is one great show and something different then Law and Order or CSI Something. When you got something that has this good of a story line, you got to keep it going. If ABC doesn’t know how to operate their network and does cancel this show, I hope some other network will pick it up.
PLEASE for goodness sake!! Finally a good show with good writing and you want to cancel it?? Take another look….I guess you haven’t seen the tv shows that are offered to us lately. Keep it on!!!
Detroit 187 is the best action drama on tv today. All the sitcoms are average and Castle has a great cast with strong story-lines, but 187 has a different approach to cop shows. It captures your attention throughout the whole hour and makes you not want to break for commercials. Do not cancel this. It rates a little above Castle as far as I am concerned.
The more I watch, the more I like this show. Really would like for it to continue.
This a great great show, u cant cancel it, give it one more year, its one of the best ensmbles on tv. There is enough garbage reality shows on tv, thjis is wekk written, acted and put together, what else do u want? Maybe it hasnt been promoted enough, its a great show, please reconsider.
Finally a decent realistic show and about a city with normal believable characters and appeal and it is going to be cancelled ? Damn ..this it is what wrong with TV and why people are going elsewhere for entertainment . I know you need bigger numbers yet the powers that be ought to give it a little more time and a better slot of time as well as a bit more applause for what it has already accomplished . Hope and a fresh look at a city on the rebound. TV is now more about how much it can sell… Read more »
Great show ,great script.Whats the matter with you. When people stop watching your broadcast.you wonder why.Stick with Detroit 187.The stories are better than CSI
Please don’t cancel this show. The stories are so real, the actors are incredible and there are so few quality police shows on t.v. these day. We need good thought provoking, honest shows with actors who really are believable in their parts, well written scripts that allow the characters to develop as well as the plots with continuing themes in following episodes
You can’t cancel this show. It is awesome and Detroit needs some good publicity
Love this show as well. Perhaps the best ensemble cast for a show in a great many years. Hope they give it another chance. It’s on of the 3 best shows on television behind Justified and The Chicago Code. Keep the pressure on ABC, maybe it will survive.
please dont cancel detroit 187 luv it bad enough nypd blue is gone james mcdaniel frm nypd blue lieutenet fancy michael imperioli frm soprano please keep it on
