What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the BBC America cable channel, Doctor Who follows a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey, known only as The Doctor (Capaldi). The tenth season features his new companion, Bill (Pearl Mackie), as well as Nardole (Matt Lucas). Season ten guest stars include David Suchet and Michelle Gomez. An ancient alien, The Doctor explores time and space in the TARDIS, solving problems and righting wrongs. Because he is a Time Lord, when near death, The Doctor can regenerate into a new body. Each incarnation has unique talents and peculiarities.

Telly’s Take
Showrunner Steven Moffat and star Peter Capaldi are both exiting the series at the end of season 10. For most shows, that would spell certain cancellation, but not so for the venerable British television institution that is Doctor Who.
In fact, aside from writing and overseeing the tenth season, one of Moffat’s final duties was selecting his own replacement. Back in January of 2016, Chris Chibnall boarded as the season 11 showrunner, which is a strong indication a renewal is on the way. In addition, in November 2015, Moffat said, based on the business plan, he expected the sci-fi series would run five more years. Adjusting for timey-wimey stuff, it’s unlikely a cancellation is imminent.
While in this case, the show’s UK ratings are likely to have a greater impact on the series’ fate, the US ratings are important to ensure it keeps running on this side of the pond. So, I’ll keep an eye on the numbers and update this page periodically. Subscribe for free updates regarding any Doctor Who cancellation or renewal news.
7/1 update: BBC has quietly confirmed that there will be an 11th season with a new actor succeeding Capaldi as the new Doctor.

What do you think? Should the Doctor Who TV show have been renewed for an 11th season? How long do you expect this BBC TV series to run?
Yeah Dr.Who.Great Christmas show.I love watching this series
I’m a huge Doctor who fan, but the writing, and acting along with politics creeping in the show has soured me as a fan. The show used to have equal exploration as it did monster battles, sadly they moved to a superhero godly like figure. I fear however with Jodie Whittaker as the replacement choice, that we are sadly at the end of the shop’s revival run. Jodie is not a strong enough actress to make it work, and the choice has divided the fanbase, with already low ratings, it’s not long before it will be too much for the… Read more »
I’ve been watching season 10 via streaming service because of high cable cost, but hope that Doctor Who continues many more years. The “Classic” lasted 1963-1989 before cancellation, after all. The Doctor has my vote to continue for years to come.
Think 4 years I heard make up season 15 is final season towards the dr that give BBC America contracts.
We are gerring a new writting team. So give dr.who one more season
I think we should give the next doctor a chance to prove himself at least for one season I would be out of this world if we could see david tennet or matt smith again as the doctor.
Let’s give the new runner one season, to return the trainwreck that Moffat created to something watchable.
If he doesn’t, nobody will shed a tear either.
I got into DW watching the last episode of the (rebooted) 2nd series, then watched from the third series onwards (i have watched the 1st series about two years ago). If I were to rank the doctors (imho) best-to-worst i would ran them; Tennant, Eccletson, Smith, Capaldi. Now let me explain; I know that Eccletson is a good number of people’s favorites, but for me he wasn’t on the show long enough to make that much of a positive impression. I do have to give him points for being a fairly young actor portraying someone who is actually 800-900 years… Read more »
I’ve yet to see anyone whose favorite was Eccleston, of all people.
As an actor, Capaldi was the best, although obviously utterly wasted. As a character, Tennant, full stop. Only one who seemed to be able to feel something and show it believably too.
Smith was… well, I’m still not sure he wasn’t a robot who wore wear a face costume all the way through. 😛
I love Doctor Who and have for a long time! I really hope it is renewed! while I’m on the subject I would also like to have torchwood back on the air!
Yes for Torchwood. I actually preferred it over DW. Mainly due to what a trainwreck DW had become. It’s like its fans live in a reality distortion bubble that even out-distorts the Jobs-ian one.
I am always love watching doctor who so much and I like to watch the first movie please and I would like it to stay on the air
