Lifetime has decided to cancel Drop Dead Diva after four seasons on the air.
Debuting in July 2009, Drop Dead Diva begins as a vapid aspiring model named Deb is killed in a car accident. Unhappy with her prospects in heaven, she finds herself sent back to Earth and ends up in the body of a recently deceased lawyer, Jane (Brooke Elliott). Deb must now deal with being in the body of her complete opposite –someone who’s brilliant, hard-working, charitable, and overweight.
Others in the cast have included Margaret Cho, April Bowlby, Kate Levering, Jackson Hurst, Josh Stamberg, Ben Feldman, Lex Medlin, and Carter MacIntyre.
The fourth season finished airing on September 9th and averaged 2.3 million viewers with a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That was slighly better than the performance of the third season — 2.26 million with a 0.7 in the demo. The cable channel reportedly tried to get a boost in the ratings this season by adding Kim Kardashian in a recurring role but that move obvioulsy didn’t have much of an impact.
Lifetime was supposedly holding off on making a decision on Diva’s future until they saw some of their current pilots. One can assume that, since they’ve cancelled Drop Dead Diva, they liked what they saw.
Word is that Sony Pictures TV may try to find another home for the series. Josh Berman created the show and FOX recently cancelled his other program, The Mob Doctor.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Drop Dead Diva has been cancelled? Would you watch it on another station?
I would definitely watch it on any channel! It was an entertaining show and I was hoping to see what kinds of stories could come about with Jane/Deb and Grayson. Please bring it back!
I would love to watch the show but i have to buy it on amazon since Netfix doesn’t offer season 4 and that sucks the grand ending was good but I know there is more to it and I would love to see the out come of it…. please air this show in a local Chanel like chanel 4 hay days of our life is still airing and that show is boring and how about that one show that never finishes on Chanel 7
I think Lifetime SUCKS OUT LOUD! First Against the Wall was cancelled – and now this! I will DEFINITELY watch DDD on another channel. I’m D O N E with Lifetime!
I was looking forward for season 5. Yes! I will watch it and follow it to a different station!
It can’t be possible, i need to know what is coming after the finale. Love the serie.
i neeed drop dead diva back.i loved ittt
Booooo! Was a good show.
I absolutely adore DROP DEAD DIVA! It is the highlight of my summer. I know my sister-in-law will also be very disappointed……..she loves it too! I know I can speak for her in saying, that we will follow it on any network! Good Luck. Kathy Whiting
Incredibly disappointed with ligrtime’s decision to cancel DDD. It was a great feel good show, it empowered women, it challenged the standard of having the main character be a thin and “perfect” woman, and I think it had its loyal fans and it was just going to keep growing. I will mostly be sad not to see where the writers where going to take the show. I hope lifetime doesn’t fill up with those awful new realities they have been creating.
Man, I can’t believe or want to believe I won’t be seeing the show any longer!! I really looked forward to it weekly and always hated when the season would end. I was so looking forward to seeing it again this month. I would definitely watch it on any other channel!!
I enjoyed the show until it jumped the shark with Kim Kardashian. The show needed more April Bowlby instead of the addition of a porn star.
I love Diva and will be sorry if canceled, I look forward to it. I would watch it on any other channel as long as it keeps up to the same standards. Can they come up with any more vapid reality shows? (That was rhetorical, not a challenge USA Network!) Seems like they are replacing the decent shows with junk.
Agreed. Bad decision. Apparently I really like Josh Berman shows.
I would watch it on another channel. If Lifetime would quit running Christmas Movies over and over again and quit advertising a new movie into the ground it would probably not chase people away. Spread out your reruns a little 2-3 hour blocks if the same show might be cheap but boring. Get some better Christmas movies they are overrun with music no storyline and they all end the same way. Getting rid of current show not going to help.
i am dissapointed they cancelled the show. it was one of the few shows that had a cast of characters and was not based on sexual inuendo. it was a bad decision for lifetime.
