East New York was cancelled by CBS earlier this week, but there is still some hope that the series could be saved and renewed for a second season. The show’s studio, Warner Bros Television, had started to informally shop the series to other outlets in recent weeks when renewal talks with CBS weren’t going as well as hoped.
Starring Amanda Warren, Jimmy Smits, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Kevin Rankin, Richard Kind, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Olivia Luccardi, and Lavel Schley, East New York revolves around the officers and detectives of the 74th precinct in the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Per Deadline, East New York had been on track for a renewal — until the cancellation of SWAT was rescinded. The two police dramas were essentially competing for the same time slot, so the newer drama ended up being the loser.
With a loyal following of viewers, there has been some backlash following the drama’s cancellation and the studio is looking for a new home. Those efforts are complicated now that the WGA strike is underway.
Mike Flynn, co-creator of the CBS series, told fans of the series to stay tuned in a post on Instagram.

Very upset about the cancellation of East New York. It’s a great, intelligent show with good characters, important stories and writing. I really hope a home can be found for it to continue.

I am very disappointed to hear that East New York is being cancelled. The story line and actors are top notch. Apparently,CBS is catering to an audience who prefers a soup-opera like theme with shows such as Fire Country and SWAT.
Seems like CBS can’t get their act together anymore!! Been a loyal CBS viewer for over 40 years, but their performance over the past 5 years leaves a lot to be considered. Upper management clearly doesn’t have its viewer in mind or it just doesn’t care. SAD!! Time to start looking at the other networks that know how to keep their viewing audience first. East New York was a believable police series. Actors did awesome jobs! CBS cancelled other shows that I now watch on other stations. Not sure why you would decide to cancel this series! Poor judgment!
Fabulous show, bring East New York back for season 2
My grandfather was retired NYPD, and I have a nephew who is now NYPD. Anytime there’s a show that displays how difficult it is to be a cop in the greatest city in the world, I watch it. EAST NY IS AN EXCELLENT SHOW, you guys didn’t really give it a chance! SWAT is too, so why does either one have to be cancelled?!? Pay the writers what they deserve & give us some decent dramas & comedies. ENY is a great follow to the Enforcer, and lead in to NCIS:LA. Get rid of the reality shows, they are garbage.… Read more »

Outstanding show. Great story lines. Great chemistry among the characters. Big mistake to consider not continuing the series.
