East New York was cancelled by CBS earlier this week, but there is still some hope that the series could be saved and renewed for a second season. The show’s studio, Warner Bros Television, had started to informally shop the series to other outlets in recent weeks when renewal talks with CBS weren’t going as well as hoped.
Starring Amanda Warren, Jimmy Smits, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Kevin Rankin, Richard Kind, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Olivia Luccardi, and Lavel Schley, East New York revolves around the officers and detectives of the 74th precinct in the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Per Deadline, East New York had been on track for a renewal — until the cancellation of SWAT was rescinded. The two police dramas were essentially competing for the same time slot, so the newer drama ended up being the loser.
With a loyal following of viewers, there has been some backlash following the drama’s cancellation and the studio is looking for a new home. Those efforts are complicated now that the WGA strike is underway.
Mike Flynn, co-creator of the CBS series, told fans of the series to stay tuned in a post on Instagram.

I just watched the trailer for the new Matlock show. Are you joking? CBS cancels East New York for this fluff? It would be funny if it were not so sad.

Good new series. CBS is missing this one. Who is in charge of programming there? One and done should not have happened to this drama nor SWAT for that matter.

Is a refreshing show touching the reality of the internal part of been an officer of the law, specially in times when some incidents tarnish the wonderful job that this group in blue do on regular basis and the dangerous interventions with the community and crime. With this show we learned about sacrifices, loyalty and love for the uniform.
I hope the show stay we need it.
Yes, please renew this show! I’ve been impressed with the actors, the story lines and realistic nature of the characters. But please, no pay channels to access! Keep it on one of the major networks so we don’t have to pay an arm and a leg to watch great programming!

Typical CVBS/PARAMOUNT to cancel good shows. East New York and SWAT complement each other. Find a different time slot. EAST NEW YORK on same level as BLUE BLOODS.
Please renew East New York!! It is great to see a show with such diverse characters and story lines and a very strong black female leading character. You can cancel NCIS, Hawaii as far as I am concerned. It definitely does NOT qualify with the same quality as the original NCIS or NCIS:Los Angeles which CBS cancelled.
Or cancel SWAT, never watched it. Too many series like SWAT. East New York was just so good with all the diverse characters!
