Telly’s Take
Though the ratings for season two of The Expanse dropped off some compared to season one, it is still one of Syfy’s top performers. I suspect that the mystery space opera will be renewed for a third season, but I will keep an eye on this series. 3/16 update: Syfy renewed the series for a third season. No dining for me here.

What do you think? Do you hope the The Expanse TV show will be renewed for a third season? How would you feel if Syfy cancelled this series, instead?
Truly a wonderful show, cast, story. Please keep it coming
The Expanse is an epic tale in the tradition of classic sci-fi. It conveys the struggle of humanity in the harshness of space rather that magic or fantasy. Few other series have this, which is why I will stay with SyFy as long as they continue with The Expanse!
IS THE BEST SCI FI serie of the moment! go for 3 absolutely!!
Just discovered this show on Netflix and am HOOKED! Please keep this great series going!
Expanse is my favorite show, followed by Elementary and Humans.
Please Please do not cancel this show! It’s great, and for all of the ScyFi fans NO.
This show must continue. I love it, The expanse has a gripping story line and is believable. With so many vampire and werewolf show this is a refreshing space show.
I vote for a season 3,4,5 and continue.
Great space opera from a great book series. I’d hate to see it cancelled.
Great show, please don’t cancel it
This show represents a vision of tomorrow where we could be in the not to distant future. The unlimited resources of space, perpetuation of our species, terra forming mars, mining the asteroid belt.
Hope of what could be in a time when we are decimating and contaminating our oceans and destroying our planet. It’s an inspiration which we need to pass onto our children. A vision of where we could be … space is our ultimate tomorrow…
Best Syfy show I have seen in a lot of years. It’s got to come back for Season 3 and many more seasons. Great show!!!
No doubt, a third and on seasons, should be produce. Great show, it has all the elements to make you not want to stop watching it.
Best SciFi since Battlestar Galactica. Please don’t cancel it.
I really hope they don’t cancel the show. It is the best science fiction on TV. Nothing has even come close in recent years.
Syfy does not actually produce it, just distributing it in the US, also it’s on a whole different level of quality than the cheap SF (in comparison) they broadcast. This and The Expanse being Syfy’s first step into restoring their image are the two main reasons people are optimistic with a renewal. But the future of the show is essentially ALCON’s decision (the production company), it’s a HUGE investment for them but US ratings are only one criteria, they have to take into account international distribution and VOD sales, which are supposedly good (even in the US, DVR number are… Read more »
So what you are saying is that the decision to renew isn’t mainly SYFY’s decision? We’ll see what happens. The ratings were AWFUL last week. I’m waiting to see what the ratings last night were.
Well, Syfy can choose to stop broadcasting it, but they’re not the ones producing it, they only bought distribution rights in the US. If Syfy backs out, it doesn’t mean the show can’t find another network willing to broadcast it. But that would be stupid of Syfy since this show is supposedly the first step to restore their (******) image, with more high-quality production shows, attract a wider audience with actual taste for some good TV instead of reality **** and wrestling… The biggest disadvantage of this show? It’s definitely being on Syfy, their image is not one of top-tier… Read more »
In situations where SyFy is only purchasing rights, it may make sense for them to renew, even with low-ish ratings. Mathematically, lets say each episode has a budget of 2.5 million. SyFy may only pay $800,000 an episode because the production company has international sales and streaming rights set up, which make up more than enough for the production company to warrant producing more, while SyFy makes 1.2 million an episode in ad revenue. If they had to pay a full 2.5 million, then yes, killing it would be the only choice, but that’s not really the situation here, whereas… Read more »
It will probably be renewed, but it probably shouldn’t. If the ratings fall under a 0.20(which means it will be another SYFY show whose ratings Dropped in the 2nd season) SYFY will have an interesting situation. They haven’t cancelled Incorporated yet. How many shows under a 0.20 can SYFY renew? They renewed 6 last season, and practically every one of those will have WORSE ratings this season.
They cancelled Incorporated on Feb. 27th.
