What if extinct animals weren’t really extinct? The methods used to declare a species extinct are not as fool proof as people might assume. From eyewitness accounts to last known photographs, there is evidence that suggests some of these creatures are still very much alive in the wild. The search is on for wildlife adventurer and biologist Forrest Galante, as he explores the real stories behind animals thought to be gone forever and tries to prove their existence so he can protect them and help them thrive again. EXTINCT OR ALIVE premieres on Animal Planet on Saturday, June 10 at 9PM ET/PT but you can catch a sneak peek episode during Monster Week on June 3 at 10PM ET/PT.
The season kicks off with a must see two-hour season premiere, where Forrest explores the magical and mystical jungles of Zanzibar in search of the Zanzibar Leopard, an animal thought to be extinct for over 25 years. It’s a history-making expedition in which Forrest reveals species that have never before been filmed and captures evidence that leads to an unforgettable conclusion. The hunt for other extinct animals will take him trekking through Taiwan for the beautiful Formosan Clouded Leopard, the frozen tundra of Newfoundland for the majestic Newfoundland White Wolf, and to the incredible island of Madagascar to look for any trace of the giant Pachylemur.
From the Florida everglades to remote jungles, the cameras follow Forrest Galante as he meets and listens to locals, some whom claim to be eyewitnesses of animals we thought were no longer in existence. Armed with the information and clues, Forrest sets out to prove the unimaginable, and be the voice for species the world has given up on.
EXTINCT OR ALIVE is produced for Animal Planet by Hot Snakes Media. For Hot Snakes Media, Eric Evangelista, Shannon Evangelista, and Patrick DeLuca are executive producers. For Animal Planet, Keith Hoffman is executive producer and Sarah Russell is producer.”

31 years ago we almost hit a black panther between Georgia and South Carolina at night definitely Black Panther it is probably dead by now if not someone else. Other sightings in America have occurred we need protected here stronger it’s a jaguar as it goes across the border doing Mexico Arizona. The last male that was trapped was put down supposedly for kidney failure. Not all of us believe this. Another cat that loves water is a Turkish van one that I rescued after someone threw it out of a car moving at 35 miles an hour love swimming… Read more »
You said there are no black panthers in the United States I do beg to differ so now there may not be 31 years ago my sister and I almost hit one at night between Georgia and South Carolina as it ran across the road. We’re so long ago it’s probably dead of old age or maybe somebody else killing it but it was there. The fishing cat on your show tonight is my magnificent animal and I hope I hope people don’t kill it. Another cat that’s really quite funny and I owned one is a Turkish van their… Read more »
Really liked this show. I think it is great that they are finding and working on protecting these animals.
Just watched the “Florida Black Wolf” episode. How disappointing. Having spent 25 years in Florida attempting to dispel and undo years and years of myths and inaccuracies about certain Florida wildlife, especially the panther, Animal Planet has elected to show this crock, and perpetuate the myths I have heard repeated over and over and over. As Mr. Galante surely knows, or should surely know, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of trail cameras in use at this very moment across Florida in every little hamlet and clearing imaginable. NONE, zero, nada, black panthers, black wolves, black skunk apes, none of… Read more »
I just saw the show about the black wolf/black panther. I saw a black panther about a month ago. I was driving and it crossed the road. It was huge and fur was a silky black. The tail was amazing it had a curl at the end. The eyes were a light color. It stopped on the tracks and was looking at me while I was stopped in the road. I was so stunned I called family to tell them what I saw. I have heard stories about them when I was little never saw one. This was near Natchitoches,Louisiana.… Read more »
I’ve seen a black mountain lion/panther in New Hampshire while deer hunting.
I saw a Florida black panther about 10 years ago. There is a park/woods near Avon Park Correctional Institute. I was driving through there just as it was getting good light very early in the morning. I was lost so I was driving very slow. He walked out of the woods and right across the dirt road I was on in front of my car. What a beautiful animal!!
I think a better name for the show should be I like to hear myself talk. Forest is a Steve Irwin wannabe who doesn’t have the skills or the abilities that Steve Irwin had and embodied on his show. I think Animal Planet dropped the ball on this show. I think it’s very irresponsible of Animal Planet and Forest to show people where rare species are so that poachers can then turn around and possibly locate the species. I also think Forest tries way too hard to make himself look good on film.
Exactly this! Not sure if it is the editing or how Forest acts while searching for these animals. Not sure this man could sneak up and find a deaf and blind animals that has even lost its sense of smell. Watching this guy really reminds me of how much I really miss Steve Irwin. Forest may be knowledgeable (book-wise) about animals, but clearly knows very little about tracking them in the wild. This latest episode if the clouded leopard finally did it for me. Won’t watch another episode. It’s sad they have these type of shows on Discovery and/or Animal… Read more »
That’s what my family has been saying and I gave him another chance, but that jab about the sting rays was the last straw. Thank u Mike fot ur great observations.
I saw a black panther in Lake Wales, Fl. back in 1975. I lived in a new area with many new homes being built and as I was walking home from a friends a black panther came out of the orange groves. It walked around the edge of the grove and then went back into the orange grove. I stood frozen and watched the animal as I was right near my door. It was too big to be a bobcat , did not have the face of a wolf but a rounder face. I have always thought of it as… Read more »
Just watched your latest show on the black wolf/black panther in the Florida ever Glades. If you don’t want rain you need to go during the winter time and Apopka and the Wikiwa River are not part of the Everglades.
That said, I love your show and the fact that you are finding animals that are not really extinct. Good job!
Barbara

I LOVE the show Extinct or Alive, and I really want to see Forrest tackle two species; the thylacine (Tasmanian tiger) and the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker.
Thylacine is on tonight! 9PM 7/15/2018
Love watching Animal Planet & really LOVE watching the new show “Extinct or Alive” Forest is really just excited to go wherever, see species of animals & explore! He reminds me of the late Steve Irwin! I think he’s good for this kind of show!
I remembered him from “Naked & Afraid” episode & he was positive, persevering, driving to success & helping his partners/be a team! Good job Animal Planet, for giving him a show..
I thought this would be an interesting show, but after watching the 1st episode I think it’s incredibly irresponsible of Animal Planet to highlight the location of species said to be rare or extinct. This invites unscrupulous trophy hunters wanting that rare animal on their wall and also exotic animal traders. I wish I could expect more from humanity but we all know how poachers are taking animals at an unbelievable rate. Please Cancel this show before the damages is done. I won’t watch this show again because I do not want to contribute to the scenario.
Watch the show. He is advocating protection for these species.
I love this show and look up all the animals he finds that I don’t know about.
