Although it’s still dwarfed by the parent series, and its ratings dropped significantly in the second season, fans shouldn’t worry that the Fear the Walking Dead TV show will be cancelled too soon. AMC renewed The Walking Dead prequel series through season four, back in April of 2017. What’s not clear is whether that renewal was for a fourth and final season. It’s likely that both creative and business considerations will influence that decision. Notably, despite its drop-off, Fear the Walking Dead is still AMC’s second highest rated series. Will it end next season, or continue for years to come? Stay tuned.
An AMC horror drama, Fear the Walking Dead stars Kim Dickens, Cliff Curtis, Frank Dillane, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Rubén Blades, Mercedes Mason, and Colman Domingo. Buffy veteran Emma Caulfield is also joining the new installment. The story unfolds in Los Angeles and Mexico and centers on a blended family. This dysfunctional group must band together, in the face of the coming Zombie Apocalypse.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The second season of Fear the Walking Dead averaged a 1.83 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.19 million total viewers. Compared to season one, it was down by nearly 52% and 45%, respectively.
What do you think? Do you still like the Fear the Walking Dead TV series? Should AMC cancel or renew this TV series, beyond the fourth season? Please sound off, in the comments, below.
Cancel it already, this show is such an unnecessary waste of time and money and energy, all of which should be dedicated to creating a new, non Walking Dead series for once.
Really enjoying the show – since it began. I like the time-frame and setting of the stories thus far and, as a long-time reader of the comic, appreciate seeing some alternate stories away from the main series. The acting is more subdued and less over-the-top. So I can understand why some folks have a harder time getting “into” it – there’s a bit more drama and a little less action. There are plenty of sub-plots still left to uncover and certainly a wider world view happening here than on the main series. I find both the comic and the main… Read more »
There is no comic for Fear the Walking Freaks and this show is an absolute DUNG HEAP. It isn’t the “more drama less action”, there are great dramas out there wit little action. This is NOT one of them. The characters are absolute IDIOTS, I mean who the absolute heck wants to route for a teenage girl on her period permanently, her drug addict brother or stupid mother? Such idiots! And the actors are z list and can’t act. This show is literally shockingly bad Bob, do you understand? VERY underwhelming for most people. I’m gonna hope the ratings continue… Read more »
An American family in Mexico is hardly “a wider world view”. And anyway if they were gonna go there, they shouldn’t have made the main cast white Americans yet again, do a Mexican family in Mexico they want people to actually take this seriously.
Agree Bob.
I’m a huge Walking Dead fan and was intrigued by Fear TWD but the characters mostly seemed more motivated by what the plot needed than anything. The last straw for me was when I found out they killed off Cliff Curtis’ character (the dad) he at least seemed to react to things like how a decent human caught up in this apocalypse would react. I didn’t even bother to watch the season 3 episodes that I’d recorded while on vacation, (found out about the death on”Talking Dead.” The producer was there along with Cliff Curtis). Funny thing is, I don’t… Read more »
Season 1 of FTWD is meh. Season 2 is okay but boring. Season 3 to my surprise, is actually quite good, like it’s a completely different show.
Season 3 is terrible!!! The Clark family need to go! I’m not surprised ratings are still falling, it really deserves it.
Listen; I’m more attached to TWD characters, but I prefer the story-telling of FTWD better. By trying to commit too much to the comic books, TWD ends up imitating the source material and it doesn’t feel “natural” at times (caricaturist or more like a live version of the comics). FTWD only has the universe of TWD to commit to, the rest is in the hands of the writers/producers and their creativity. Therefor, it feels like a gory DRAMA series more than a moving comic series. What I mostly want to see in an apocalypse show are Characters evolving psychologically and… Read more »
Lol too bad it’s a dumbass show and it’s a sinking ship for good reason. The Clark family are all stupid and unlikeable. There are plotholes galore too. They even had to change Alicia’s age last minute because they made a minor have sex with a 24 year old lol. Dead and gone honey.
How come Mercedes gets pregnant in real life and not her? She’s jammy. Would have been a great excuse to have one less annoying Clark member.
Nobody cares about Fear at all, it’s a dumb show that deserves cancellation. Waste of airplay.
I agree!
Ps how is teens getting drunk with a zombie head and accidentally having a 24 year old having sex with a minor “handling things better”?? Please just stop, nobody wants to read pages of sucking up to a show like Fear.
It’s getting really good!!!
It isn’t.
So good!
Tell that to the sh*t ratings buddy.
Over 2.4 million are really good ratings lol and are also awesome numbers for renewal. When the original walking dead started out it had around the same numbers. Wow! A bunch of trolls on here. News flash….. Other people live on this planet besides you sourpusses.
Newsflash, they renewed it to season 4 before season 3 began and before they saw how much the ratings were going to fall. These ratings are actually not a good pattern considering it started at 14million from TWD fans and lost about 12 or 13 million in less than 3 seasons. 2.4 million is good for a cable show but not for Fear when it was at 14 mil and drops now by a million at least every season. And it’s dropping for good reason. It is now in CW ratings territory but thankfully AMC aren’t quite as desperate a… Read more »
I just came on here to say the show is getting good, and I’m not the only one that feels that way. Keep up the good work FTWD!! 🙂
Yeah keep up the good work FTWD because at this rate, your show will be cancellation worthy. 😀
Yeah but also, the original TWD was going up in ratings, not down like Fear. When will you learn that it will never live up to the main show?
Thankfully 2 awful showrunners who butchered TWD and Once Upon a Time are taking over Fear in season 4, ha!
This show MUST GO ON!!! It’s crazy to say but there are now sooo many TWD fans lovig FTWD better than TWD itself!!! Everywhere I go I am hearing how good it’s turning out to be and that they are now loving it sooo much!!! I’m one of them!!! This show is sooo freaking awesome and we NEED to keep having it just like we already have TWD!! I’m on for FTWD far better than TWD too!!!!
Well, there aren’t many like you. That’s why the live ratings for TWD blow this show away, and blow it away BADLY! Thank goodness the +7 ratings for this show get it near a 2.0 Thank goodness this show has already been renewed for a season 4, because otherwise I might get a little worried. It will be interesting to see how many people from the original cast make it to season 4. They better get some name people for this show, because the people that I might care about on this show is down to about 2. That is… Read more »
The show in general is pathetic dude. There aren’t many people talking about either of these shows anymore actually.
When the new Stephen King stuff starts pouring out, that will be really interesting .
Fear is such a wuss, it takes a super long hiatus to avoid GOT sinking it goodo and it always shys away from any real competition so it airs when there is never anything on cable. Garbage quality.
You’re so right about GOT. Just looked up the ratings for the 1th episode. It had a total of 16.1 mil viewers. This show will never compete.
Not even if the entire season of GOT was made up of Ed Sheeran cameos could Fear compete.
Hahaha you are awesome, stirring the pot and others taking the bait
I watched season one, thought it was boring at best, but I figured maybe it was just starting off a little slow. So I reluctantly came back for season 2 and by the third episode, I simply couldn’t take it anymore. What killed this show for me was, I thought it was going to show us the events that caused the so called zombie apocalypse. Instead, we got the beginning stages of the outbreak which in my opinion, there was no reason to show that. Then to make things worst, they gave us the most boring characters in television history!… Read more »
There was EVERY reason to show the beginning stages, which was what people wanted but was barely shown, and NO reason to show the cause, OR the POST-apocalyptic setting, which was the only thing that made it the boring TWD clone.
Well if the beginning stages is what people wanted to see, then why did the ratings drop like a rock after the first two episodes of the first season?
They were still technically the highest rated. Take a look around the Internet, intelligent people complain about the time jump from pre apocalypse (episodes 1 and 2) to the beginning of the apocalypse (episode 3), skipping the apocalypse itself. Not so smart people complain SOLELY about boring characters or storylines (I’m not disagreeing by this point in season 3), or that it isn’t like TWD enough (post-apoc setting) Perhaps people felt it was slow at first, I was alright with the pacing, feeling like it was leading up to total mayhem, the most exciting parts of an actual apocalypse, rather… Read more »
Oops, I meant the jump from episode 3, just when things were going haywire, to episode 4, when everyone in LA had already died and the apocalypse was close to an end.
Season 2 was full on post-apocalypse, but at least there was some focus on zombies. Season 3? Really bland to be honest.
I was liking the show but I am American and I speak ENGLISH I don’t understand Spanish so I don’t like watching a show where I don’t know what their saying….
It honestly went so downhill though, even without the Spanish. I liked Daniel but they wanted to put a lot of the emphasis on the kids. That didn’t cut it for me.
Unfortunately for the show, it consisted of unlikable characters. I watched most of the first season and the only character I halfway liked was the boyfriend’s ex-wife. Thought she would have been much better as a lead than the blonde mother, who is extremely annoying. Never liked the junkie kid and hoped some walker would get him. Alas – not to be. Anyway, I quickly gave up on the show. Not worth an hour of my life.
Madison, the blonde mother, (Kim Dickens) is doing an EXCELLENT job!!! She is my favorite!!!!
Again you cracked me up lol
I doubt that this show will go beyond season 5 as the prequel story is over, the show is losing viewership & it not doing as well as AMC expected. I also don’t see it crossing over with TWD especially since a lot of the audience & TWD fans aren’t happy with FTWD. The only way that would change is if the quality & viewership had dramatic increase but thats highly unlikely. From what I can’t see they are just milking the show now, leaching of the success of TWD & turning into a TWD 2.0 Also I do think… Read more »
Yes, I totally agreed with all you said about Alycia… 🙂
I don’t think she is underutilized, I think there is too much of her on this show. Her character Alicia is a moody ass and frickin annoying. I don’t give a damn about her being eye candy and excessively using her for promotion and I don’t give a damn about a new Twilight love triangle, if I thought this was going to wind up as a stupid teen saga, I would have taken back all my earlier hopes for it. It belongs on CW or either Disney Channel and all it proved is that Alycia is a one trick pony… Read more »
What I was say was actually a criticism of the show.
Also what I mean by her being under utilised is that Alycia is playing a boring & generic character thats nothing special on a boring show.
When she can do some much better as we have seen with Lexa, which I think did an amazing job at portraying that character.
So all it proves is that alicia is an awful character & the show is a waste of time.
Personally though she really lost when she gave up Lexa, nothing can even come close to that character and her story, it made her after all. But yeah, money talks I guess, that’s why I have so little respect for actors these days.
I don’t think that she choose to give up on Lexa, it was the show runner of the 100 that decided to kill her character off.
As far as I know she was surprised when she found out Lexa would be killed off.
She had already signed on to Fear the Walking Dead when she was playing Lexa. I think that Lexa’s ending could easily have been changed if she hadn’t made that decision. She chose Alicia Clark over Lexa because bigger paycheck and more exposure and she said in an interview conflicting schedules and locations made it impossible for her to do both. Everyone blames the showrunner but it’s her fault too. As I say, just goes to show that among younger actors, being an actor must only be about the money and not the message.
I think at that the time she sign on to FTWD she made the right choice, as she was only guest star on the 100, she originally only sign on for 6 episodes, none of the episodes she was in had air yet & she didn’t know what was going to happen to her character so had no job security. we all know that the “conflicting schedules” is BS & is just her being professional. If she hadn’t sign on to FTWD then she probably would still be playing Lexa as series regular, although I do still feel that she… Read more »
Well, I don’t think the conflicting schedules thing was simply Alycia being professional, it was basically a lie to make herself look better. And I have seen Alycia in some interviews and the things she says can sometimes come across as rehearsed and a bit shallow, just my take on it. I think everyone knows that those schedules weren’t conflicting and that she could have pushed to do both if she wanted to. But she didn’t want to. It was too much effort and she decided to just let Lexa go because she thought Alicia Clark would make her really… Read more »
What I mean by her being professional is that she is using the official excuse that everyone uses.
And yes some time she does say things that are rehearsed or regurgitate the same things.
But ultimately in the end there are no winners here.
While I don’t agree with everything you are saying, It nice to get someone else’s viewpoint & opinion in such a civil manner.
Thanks same here. I used to be a fan of the actress when she played Lexa but even then there was something…off about her, is that the right word? She has said and done things that surprised me and I saw her in a truer light. I do think it was a business decision for Alycia, her head with the money and fame, not her heart. I always remember her saying “think Hollywood be Hollywood”, I think she is finally living up to that. I just don’t really like celebrities in general, they always disappoint. But with Lexa she was… Read more »
Am not saying a am fan of her I just think that she is a good actress & that what I like to focus on with any actor their work & performance but yeah even I sometimes get a wired vibe from Alycia too. I Just feel like is the type of person that will do whatever is necessary to make it in Hollywood & the acting business. Also too I like to separate Alycia & Lexa from each other because they are different & I think Lexa become a symbol for some people. FTWD has a huge decline in… Read more »
For me the type of person they are is just as important as the acting. If someone is not a nice, genuine or deserving person, I will not support them financially, timewise or otherwise. And Alycia is an attention seeker, I think that’s the word. It is always negative though and I just don’t think that sends a good message. She tries too hard to be “Hollywood”, it is a very shallow world though. Even on Talking Dead she comes across as really ditzy sometimes and I think she is trying to be cute or sexy or something but it… Read more »
What mean is with actor/actress I tend not to want to know anything about them beyond essential whats on their IMDB page. I would agree she shouldn’t try to be “Hollywood” as it such a fickle & false world that tends to ruin / corrupt people. she know a lot more than she let on but I also think that in some situations she is social awkward & that where the cute & innocent side come from, which I even though it can be little bit exaggerated, I still thinks it apart of her personality. In terms of acting yeah… Read more »
That is a fair statement, I can’t argue with that. I actually found with great characters like Lexa when I research the actor, I am always let down by how opposite they can be to the character I fell in love with. But I do it because I want to know who this person I am investing in is…like for example if I paid money to go to a convention that they will be at, the money is going towards the actor, not the character so it’s something where I like to know who I am investing in and what… Read more »
I agree if you are going to invest your money into an actor & go to conversations you have to know a bit more about the person you are investing in. I would also agree that acting should be about more than making money, It should about impacting people & have meaning to it. Lexa was the role for Alycia, that would really benefited her & don’t think she will achieve what she had with character again as that was a once in life time opportunity. I probably wont follow her beyond Lexa anyway as That was the character I… Read more »
Totally, I never met a character quite like Lexa and probably won’t, even the showrunners under-estimated her which is sad. But I have seen so many Alicia Clarks time and time again there is nothing special about her remotely. I just think it speaks volumes when somebody downgrades like that with the wrong intentions. So I am in the same position and I love Lexa and if anything ever happens for her in the future I will get behind it but Alycia isn’t someone I will ever likely support in other future roles. Yes Kirkman says the comics are nowhere… Read more »
Yeah Lexa is such a rare & unique character & I don’t think there will be another quite like Lexa at least for me anyway & that why its such a shame what happened. I would say that am a Lexa fan, so mostly want to focus on her & if anything did happen with Lexa I would be there. I could see the walking dead comic books going on for a long time but not the show as people are already getting fed up. As you said GOT got it right by giving the show a definite ending &… Read more »
Same for me too, there definitely won’t be another Lexa. That’s why it saddens me that any time Lexa is brought up, Alycia tried to turn it into something about Alicia Clark. I thought that was a little disrespectful. I know she would want to plug her new show but she should never be dismissive of anyone who brings up the character that made her. As we were saying, clearly for a lot of people she is so special because she is symbolic and not just because of her sexuality either. So despite Alycia’s efforts, Alicia Clark can’t win hearts… Read more »
Who cares though? The only good role that Alicia girl had is Lexa, her character in this is a total moron and I feel like she isn’t even trying hard half the time, she is just being herself. I think the teen fluff is a big reason this show is sinking and I hope Alicia gets killed off.
I didn’t say that anyone has to care, am just pointing out what I see.
I basically agree with everything you said & also going from a character like Lexa to one like Alicia is big step down.
Well that I agree with. It’s a shame than an actor like her would let go of an iconic character and lower her standards so much for a higher paycheck. Seems like actors like that just have little acting integrity anymore. On the whole, the spin off is a mess.
Yeah, I think that the spin off is a mess too & they have took the show in the wrong direction.
I stopped watching after S1 as their was no reason to continue watching: we saw how the apocalypse started, I didn’t really like any of the characters & I didn’t turn out the way I excepted it too.
What has happened is, even when it was having really bad moments, people stayed with the show and said they would hang on or they would just watch because there is nothing else on. Now had this been a standalone show not in TWD universe, it would never have been given so many chances but loyalty to the “brand” has made Fear a lucky spin off. Many agree TWD itself is tiring out. They were desperately clinging to Fear’s brittle branch in the hopes it would become stronger and even overtake TWD (highly unlikely though due to its poor reputation… Read more »
You’re crazy, as a stand alone show this show would still be AMAZING!!! Many are switching over to FTWD and loving it better than TWD itself!!
Really? Because from what I see the ratings are dropping, not picking up.
Not me but I will now because you have inspired me
The show is GREAT!!! It’s going nowhere!!!
Can you read numbers??
Yeah!!! That’s the spirit!!
It’s renewed for 4 th season… Obviously, they doing something right… We’ll see. Season 2 was so bad…. 🙂
Season 3 is also really bad. It isn’t doing anything right other than continuing to leech off the Walking Dead for viewers and carbon copy storylines. Zzzzzz is right.
I didn’t watched any episodes yet… But I will…. Season 1 and 2 weren’t good at all, I hardly made myself to watch them. I was hoping the third season would be better. We’ll see. 🙂
Meh, don’t bother. There was a dead zombie head with teenagers getting drunk and high with it and people were like omg best show everrrr!! Uh no. Was it comedy, was it serious, well it was definitely crappy anyway. There are some good shows on a Sunday but this isn’t one of them. I hope Game of Thrones will show it whose boss.
Why is this show still on? At least the ratings falling is fun to watch if not those unrelatable characters.
Because it has been renewed for season four, so it has to keep going. Don’t worry. Everything will fall apart by the end of season three and they will all be on the road again. Which is where they belong. TWD got away with bringing in a lot of no name people for us to care about. This hasn’t.
Very true and the showrunners who ruined TWD and Once Upon a Time are taking over for season 3. Anyone in Hollywood could play any of the Clark family and it wouldn’t make a difference.
*For season 4 I mean.
-5.00 and -10.000 viewers at the end of the season, bet that!
It’s a great show. Very much inline with the Walking Dead, not a show about zombies, but a show about people surviving the hardships of a world gone crazy. I was hurt about the lose of a beloved character but that’s how it going on this series. Apparently no place for this character’s story line to continue. If the rest of the season is as good as the first 2 episodes we’re golden.
It’s a garbage spin off that needs a reboot or cancellation! I am so happy about these ratings falling, it deserves it.
