ABC quietly unveiled a new reality series on Tuesday night. Like the network’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition series, Find My Family had audience members reaching for the tissues by the box. But, more importantly for the show’s future, how did it do in the ratings?
Hosted by Tim Green and Lisa Joyner, Find My Family helps people reconnect with family members after being separated for many years. The emotional reunions take place on-camera and in front of a place known as the “Family Tree.”
Following the performance finale of Dancing with the Stars, the premiere of Family attracted 12.76 million viewers and a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Those numbers look okay on their own but its significant that the series lost about 40% of its lead-in audience. ABC can’t be happy about that.
The real test will be next Monday’s broadcast though. Family won’t have the powerful Dancing lead-in and will expand to one hour.
What do you think? Is Find My Family worth watching or should ABC cut this series short? Cancel or keep it?

they should cancel it and try to save something better like TRAUMA
I can’t believe that keeping this show on should even be a question. Between all the news shows and the police/shoot-em-up shows on EVERY night, the “Find My Family” show is a very welcomed change that I find uplifting, hopeful, compassionate, and so important for the people trying to connect with their families. This show shows a positive direction in life for all of us. The economy is the pits and the Afghan and Iraq wars have not ended. Isn’t that enough reason to have a wonderful and hopeful show for the people of the US to see and enjoy???… Read more »
I think we should keep the show. I actually didn’t get to see it but I think it would be a valuable tool for adoptive children to reconnect with their parents. Maybe this TV show would have more clout to onlock records that we cannot.
Keep the show going! I wasn’t aware of its premiere, darn it! The process of genealogy research is a lot like a crime show, which is a proven entity.
I have a cousin who spent 17 years to find her family and also found me and she was ecstatic. Keep the show- it has great potential.
KEEP this show on the air! Pre-publicity for this show was invisible. I found it by surfing channels on November 30th. With genealogical research as the top American hobby, and stronger publicity from WABC, this show will definitely become a hit.
Spread the word folks. This is more than a reality show, it gives folks tips about how to find someone on their own!
Keep the show!!! Find My Family is a positive show. Half of the world is looking for the other half of the world. This is a show that almost every person can identify with. It shows real emotions, real life situations and everyday people just searching for something they can only dream about.
I love the show. Having personally having had my own reunion a little over a year ago. I am currently married to the birthfather, and found the son we were forced to give up for adoption 43 and a half years ago. Our family has become close and we all are doing well. the adoptive dad and step-mom along with his 2 adopted brothers have all become a part of our lives. I try to help anyone along the way, through encouragement and example, doesn’t always turn out so positive but at least adoptees can find other family that they… Read more »
KEEP the show. I certainly enjoy the premise and the real people. I find the hosts a bit stiff and emotionally withdrawn. I would like to see more interaction as they do on Extreme Home Make Over. Both hosts definately need to become more involved.
For sure! Keep the show! My Father is out there, he knows I’m out here but we can’t find each other! I wish I knew how to find each other. I found out when I was 39 that I no longer have any “real” siblings. My Mother and Grandmother had ovarian cancer and I’m the only blonde, blue-eyed child out of 7! Would like an opportunity to see a picture – not to ruin anyone’s life! Who knows what would happen. I only have maybe a few years – his military name is not on any cemetary list and he… Read more »
By all means, do not cancel the show.
Please keep this show!! Although I am sure my parents have passed on, I am just as sure that I have brothers and sisters. I would love to find them for my kids to know.
Yes, keep the show! It’s a show that is inspirational to everyone who may searching for a person who means a lot to them, not just the adopted or someone who is part of the birth triad.
I think you should keep the show, this might be the only way people are going to be able to reunite. My husband and his sister have never met their father, he left them when my husband was 1. My husband is now 46 and knows nothing about his father. He is a little skeptical about meeting him, but his sister really wants to meet him.
Cancel this show. It is a sad manipulation of the audience and an exploitive intrusion into person family matters. I think it could actually be dangerous by portraying fanstasy scenarios not closely resembling the day to day lives of all parties involved in adoption.
