The future of Flashpoint on CBS is still up in the air but Canadian viewers definitely have more episodes of the cop drama in their future.
Flashpoint is produced in Canada and CBS has licensed episodes since 2008 and used the show mostly as an off-season utility player. Last summer, CBS aired most of the episodes from season three but still had six installments left on the shelf. In January, the decision was made to license seven more episodes, combine them with the leftover six and run them as season four. They began airing in early May.
That left 11 episodes of the cop drama that weren’t being licensed by CBS. They are on track to be aired in Canada this summer.
CTV has now ordered a fifth season of 18 episodes. Flashpoint is the most-watched Canadian drama and has averaged more than 1.5 million viewers (an impressive number by Canadian TV standards). The new order will bring the series’ episode total to 80 installments, making it the longest-running original scripted series currently on Canadian television.
There’s been no word on whether CBS will license any more episodes or not but the ratings certainly haven’t been impressive. Thus far this season, Flashpoint’s been averaging just a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.42 million total viewers. Per the early numbers, last night’s installment tied a repeat of Shark Tank in the demo.
On the other hand, the show doesn’t cost the network as much as producing their own scripted dramas.
Once the new episodes are filmed and completed, there will be 29 episodes that CBS hasn’t licensed. We’ll have to wait to see when or if American audiences will get a chance to see them.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear Flashpoint has been renewed? Should CBS license more episodes?

Im begging you CBS i turned on the television to watch what happened to ed and was left in serious disspointment. i do not have cable and my only other options are dateline and 20/20. i just went to bed.
It never ceases to amaze me! A show that is well written offering excellent action and direction delivered by a supurb cast and crew may not return to the CBS line-up. Yet the network is already promoting it’s fall line-up with little on no promotional support for Flashpoint. Reruns or not there are millions who have yet to view the program. CBS use your promotional skills to give the show a chance to increase fan loyality. And yes loyal viewers desere more than the season ending event as it’s last exposure to Flashpoint. I wonder if we can watch Canadian… Read more »
Please, please, PRETTY PLEASE, keep Flashpoint on CBS!!!!!!! This is one of the most exciting shows I’ve ever watched. I can’t wait for Friday nights, to see what intriguing and intense situation the SRU will be up against. I sit on the edge of my seat with each episode. Few shows can make you do that. The actors are absolutely superb, and the storylines are magnificent! Each character on the show seems to have become my special friend. I have a special date with Flashpoint on Friday nights! I get my favorite snacks ready and it’s just me and Flashpoint… Read more »
This is one of the few Cop Series where the question of why an individual does what has put them in harm’s way permeate’s the characterization of the show. Please keep the series.
Where can I as an American purchase the series?
I agree with Jo Ann there is finally a show that you can’t wait to see, what excellent writers. Please bring it back for us.
CBS – What are you thinking? This has to be the BEST show on your lineup. You can’t leave us hanging! FLASHPOINT truly show how real law enforcement teams relate.
I work nights and I make sure I am up to watch this show.
Please DON’T DISAPPOINT US!!!
I love flashpoint. Please don’t leave us hanging.
When finally we seniors have a show we enjoy and poof it is gone!!! Please bring it back in off season or regular…Thanks Not everyone likes reality shows.
I cant believe you would leave us just hanging after the last first run episode we were given. This is such a good show and so suspenseful. It sure beats some of the other garbage that continues to be kept. I just don’t get it. Why show reruns of Flashpoint if there are new episodes out there. I hope you will give us some more new ones for the summer. Guess Canadian network CEO’s are just smarter. I am one very disappointed viewer at your decisions concerning this show. Charlene Piatt
Flashpoint is to me the best cop show on tv right now I would rather watch a rerun of flashpoint than any of those reality shows everyone is so crazy about. The episode on June 17th blew me out of my chair cant belive you would even think of ending the series after that episode.
I agree this is one of the better programs on CBS and it really isn’t fair to leave us hanging after the June 17th episode. This time of year we are all looking for first run episodes not reruns.
I can not believe you will leave us hanging after last Friday (June 17th) night episode. Was that truly a finale for the season or will we find out what happened to Ed and his situation on the way to his wife? This is one the best shows on TV. and it would be a shame to see it cancelled!!!

CBS, you can’t just leave us hanging after the June 17th episode. that’s just not fair. Please show the remaining episodes.
