Looks like Laurie Metcalf may soon have some extra time on her hands. The actress’ CBS show, The McCarthys, has been essentially cancelled. Now, her Getting On series has been renewed for a third but final season on HBO.
Based on a UK series of the same name, Getting On follows the staff at the Billy Barnes Extended Care Unit of Mt. Palms Hospital in Long Beach, CA. They attend to the needs of female patients who are often “getting on” in years. The comedy stars Metcalf, Alex Borstein, Niecy Nash, and Mel Rodriguez.
The series has been renewed for a third season of six episodes — the same quantity as the first two seasons. Season two of Getting On attracted just 250,000 viewers and a 0.08 rating in the 18-49 demographic but the cable channel has been able to justify keeping it on the air by keeping costs low.
No word yet on when the final season will begin airing.
What do you think? Do you like the Getting On TV show? Do you ythink it should end? Should there be a fourth season?
I have been watching this show on a nearly continuous loop. It has the BEST acting….Laurie Metcalf is a Stratavarius of an actor, and Alex Borstein and Niecy Nash are also perfect. Nurse DelaSorto is such a creep! I can not understand why the ratings were not higher; nonetheless, I eant HBO to resurrect, and call back the four key players. They were all STELLAR! And the writing was perfect….dark humor and some actual drama and serious pathos beautifully woven in. Please bring it back. Alex Borstein can do double duty between “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisle” and “Getting On”….two absolute… Read more »
This is one of the best shows out now. I am so bummed it’s ending.
I am sad to see this series end. The actors are so charming and talented. The script is clever and the humor is so keen. This series has a wonderful blend of humor, compassion and kindness as medical personnel deal with the unpleasant part of aging. It also has the undercurrent of the political need to fight for the rights of women (no matter what the age).
I love the personalities the actors have developed in their characters. Such a funny, gentle, and loving show. I will miss it and them.
I LOVE this show and hope it is picked up by hbo for a few more seasons…..I think its just not been discovered yet. Give it a chance; maybe it needs a little more promotion, HBO!!
Getting On is one of the best HBO comedies ever. Please reconsider. It is sharp and clean and original! KEEP IT GOING!!! Please.
