A staple of CBS’ Friday night schedule, ratings for Ghost Whisperer have dropped quite a bit over the season. Last week, the network surprised many viewers by cancelling the TV show after five seasons. The blow was softened when it was learned that the series might get a second chance on ABC. The alphabet network has now apparently passed.
Starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ghost Whisperer began in September 2005 and ran for 107 episodes. The series’ regular cast has also included David Conrad, Christoph Sanders, Jamie Kennedy, Camryn Manheim, Aisha Tyler, and Jay Mohr.
Things had been looking positive for the series to continue and some outlets actually had even reported that the show had been picked up. Unfortunately, the deal didn’t work out.
We may never know the details but Ghost Whisperer executive producers Kim Moses and Ian Sander issued a statement that said, “After five wonderful seasons and over 100 episodes, we are disappointed to announce Ghost Whisperer will not be returning for a sixth season. We’ve had an incredible experience and owe a debt of gratitude to everyone involved. We continue our relationship with ABC Studios and look forward to developing many more successful projects together in the future.”
While it looks like Heroes and Law & Order will get some closure, there’s been no word on any plans to go back into production and wrap up Ghost Whisperer.
What do you think? Sad to see it go? How would you have ended Melinda’s story?

I can’t believe Ghost Whisperer is cancelled! Both me and my mom were always excited for fridays to watch it. We are very mad and disappointed that it isn’t coming back on.
Never watching CBS again, its cancelled, thanks a lot for ruining my life…jerks.
i was really bummed when i went looking for ghostwhisper and found it was canceled…it would have been nice if you could have given the people watching it some kind of closure. My whole family watched this show and the 8 of us have been faithful fans and have not missed a episode. so, cbs please bring back ghost whispers back.
I am so upset that Ghost Whisperer was canceled without any notice. I only saw that when Medium was moved into its time slot that it wasn’t coming back. I don’t understand how CBS could do this and give the viewers no resolve. I am terribly upset. I like Medium but I loved Ghost Whisperer. I hope that CBS will reconsider and at least bring it back to give closure to us faithful GW fans.
Here was a show with a husband and wife who cared and respected each other no swearing or violence and showed death as a beginning. Everything good and this show you cancel and leave us with reality shows that are stupid. I guess at CBS morals are a thing of the past.
Why is it that all the good shows get tooken off air but they leave all these crazy shows on air! Ghost Whispers was a good show and should be still on air!!!
This was my favorite show. My family and I watched it without missing a beat…. Why but why. It’s very sad… It was an hour of anticipation and excitement…
I loved GW. My husabnd and I looked forward to watching it every Friday evening. I cant understand why all the good shows get dropped and the ones that suck stay around. I hope that someone picks the show back up.
I can’t believe the networks not even the cable networks would pick this series up!!! This show was one of the best with the suspense and plot line. There was also a great ending. Instead we the viewers are left with crappy reality TV shows. It just goes to show you how crap sells!!
Woow..I’m from Europe andI was soo looking forward to seeing a new episode of GW, but when i looked for the episode guide of season 6, i just found that it was cancelled…I’m soo disapointed. It was indeed the only show that the whole family could enjoy. And it’s not only a well watched show in the States, but in Europe as well..So sad!
I am so sad to see GW go I really loved last season. Plz think twice and let it come back!! Never watching CBS!!!! 🙁
I am very upset that Ghost has been canceled! I feel like CBS made a huge mistake. The cast was very enjoyable and showed how “different” people could find a place in this world and was a show that had families sitting together as a unit {instead of each member of the family doing their own thing} This show is multi – Generational! What are you thinking. I know that I for 1 will not be watching CBS near as often as I was. Too much reality tv not enough family tv
I’m in the UK so we’re way behind on GW. I’ve just started on season 4, and I’m so into the show, I can’t believe it’s been cancelled. I hope the final season ends well!
I was a devoted watcher of the GW on Friday nights. I would rush home by 7 p. m. CST to watch each episode. It was one of my favorite shows. I was surprised that no notice was given that it was cancelled. I was looking forward to the new season this fall.
My family and I are extremely disappointed that GW was cancelled, especially with no notice and no real series finale. CBS should have given their loyal fans more. GW is one of the few shows on tv that families can watch together without real violence or sexual content. SHAME on CBS… Even though we enjoy Medium, GW was what we looked forward to and now may think twice before turning on CBS on Fridays.
