TV show description:
This dramatic series follows the fast rise (from age 26 to 34) of an ambitious cop who becomes the youngest police commissioner in the history of New York City — and the high personal and professional cost he pays to achieve it.
As Walter William Clark Jr. (Theo James) is interviewed for a story about his career, he looks back on his hard-fought journey from street kid to the most powerful man in law enforcement.
After only three years as a beat cop, Clark’s heroics on the job make him bold enough to ask for and receive the unheard-of promotion to homicide detective, angering the members of his new department who are eager to see him fail.
Clark is partnered with and mentored by experienced veteran Detective Don Owen (Chi McBride), a man just two years shy of retirement.
He would rather team with First Grade Detective Christian Arroyo (Kevin Alejandro), the alpha dog in the squad who’s just as ambitious as Clark — but without a moral center. Arroyo’s partner is Detective Deborah McKenzie (Bonnie Somerville), a tough third-generation cop and the only female detective in the unit.
Also on the team is Detective Joe Diaco (Holt McCallany), a well-connected officer with tremendous resources (which Clark might find useful). Though laser-focused on moving up the ladder, Clark’s soft spot is serving as the sole caregiver and supporter of his sister, Agnes (Stella Maeve) — a teenager demonstrating increasingly dangerous behavior.
Keenly observant and politically savvy, “Golden Boy” Clark bases his career decisions solely on his need to succeed as quickly as possible, and he’ll find that his epic journey will be filled with consequences.
Episode #13 — Next Question
Limited by his suspension and relegated to desk duty, Clark delves into Owen’s cold case in which the murder investigation of a construction worker, Jozef Dworaczyk, was compromised by the events of 9/11 happening simultaneously. Andrew Lightstone, Owen’s partner and mentor, was with him on the case and was called up to the North Towers leaving Owen to work the case on his own. That was the last time Owen saw Lightstone.
Clark notes the lack of shell casings and no reports of shots fired to speculate that a contract hit man could have been used. He and Owen confront the drug dealer whose crack house served as the crime scene about the similar way in which his rivals were killed, and the dealer reveals the name of the hit man he suspects had targeted him but mistook Dworaczyk for him instead.
When they track down the hit man, Owen coerces him to confess to fifteen murders including Dworaczyk’s and is rewarded with a promotion. Clark is perturbed when he discovers that three men were wrongly imprisoned for three of those murders and Commissioner Dowdell tells him to disregard his findings.
Lorraine kicks Arroyo out of the house after she discovers that he’s been cheating on her. Meanwhile, Clark’s father persuades Agnes to drive away with him and a volatile Deputy Mayor Holbrook confronts Clark and Margot with a gun.

What do you think? Do you like the Golden Boy TV series? Are you sorry that it’s been cancelled and there won’t be a second season?
Pls CBS leave golden boy on. It has a great cast and a great story every week. Not many shows of its caliber on right now. Many fans will be disgusted with you if you decide to cancel. Pls listen to your viewers.
This show is very good and should not be cancelled. The acting is great. I love Theo James. He is believable and the supporting cast is terrific. I hope the network gives this show a chance. My husband raved about it and now I am hooked. It is one of the better shows on TV.
This is MUST SEE TV in our household! Great writing, unique concept, and Chi McBride. What more could you want?
I watched and liked Golden Boy. This policeman has caracter to be a heroe. Not Super heroe like Superman. His partner Chi McBride is spectacular and could be the first important actor of the serie. I believe that you should give them another serie in order to establish as a good policeman serie.
Why cancel a hit show!
Enough stupid housewives reality shows.
Golden Boy is a great show. It’s near the top of my must see TV list. I would follow it to any time slot. Moving it from Tuesday to Friday and back to Tuesday was not a problem for me since I love the show. But other viewers might lose track of a show with frequent time slot changes. Renew the show for another season. Please.
One of the more factual shows and like NYPD Blue hit as close as almost any other shows. I have to say after being in this business 46 years that Barney Miller was a show I could relate many of my colleagues to.
This show certainly should be continued. Having been mentored in my career the actor Chi Mc Bride is without a doubt delivering one of the best roles of anyone .
LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Can’t wait to watch every week. I hope it gets picked up for another season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think the show is very good – need to give it a chance .
I’m not going to be popular here but I have to disagree with those of you who like this show. Not saying you shouldn’t like it, everyone has their own taste and opinions but my husband and I have watched it and we both have the same opinion of it…BAD. We even watched a few episodes of it, trying to give it a chance and get into it….nope. We love NCIS, NCIS LA, Criminal Minds, etc…but Golden Boy just doesn’t do it for us, we now change the channel and watch Justified rather than recording it. Neither of us like… Read more »
this is a great show – why do all of the good shows almost get canc. for what reason – this is great acting. try a different day if ratings are not good on this day – DO NOT CANC.
THANKS
Carol, did you know that they did try a different day? They moved it from Tuesday to Friday for an episode and their ratings plummeted so they’ve moved it back to Tuesday. In my experience of watching shows, their ratings, and how networks handle them…it’s often a death sentence to jack around with when a show is aired, especially in the fledgling season. I hate to say it (regardless of my opinion of the show) if it continues to drop in ratings (which we will have to wait and see for a few more shows)…it won’t be around long.
Don’t cancel the show give it a chance
This is one of my favorite shows. NYPD Blue was the penultimate NYC police show and this show is nearer the top than, say, Barney Miller. I really look forward to each episode. There are just enough minor storylines to keep my interest. The main plot-line involves the seven-year arc of a rookie police officer’s rise from street duty, through the detective bureau, and ultimately, the achievement of the highest position in law enforcement in New York City – the Police Commissioner. As a police officer (retired) who has risen from the rookie to the top, I recognize that this… Read more »
Theo James is unappealing, unlikeable, unattractive, and unbelievable, etc.
Josephine, I agree with you about Theo James. I just don’t like him in this role either, I don’t buy him as this character. I don’t find him unlikeable or unattractive…but definitely unbelievable.
Josephine, I can’t believe we are watching the same show. My goodness give the guy a break. I think he is the opposite of everything you stated. I would like to believe that you were having a bad day when you posted your comment. I know you are entitled as I am mine, but I truly don’t believe that Theo James deserved such a trashing.
Love the show. Look forward to Tues. evening, NCIS, La NCIS and then Golden Boy all on the same channel.
this show should not be canceled everyone I TALK to at work loves this show if vega is so good put it on another night or golden boy could go to another night. Just as long as you do not cancel
