If we don’t count the limited series, When We Rise, ABC introduced eight new TV series during the regular 2016-17 television season and cancelled five of them. Now they’re dispatching young Dr. Shaun Murphy on a house call, with the first season of The Good Doctor TV show. From House creator David Shore and Lost vet Daniel Dae Kim, the medical drama is based on a South Korean series of the same name. Can it find success in the U.S.? Will The Good Doctor be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.
The Good Doctor stars Freddie Highmore, Antonia Thomas, Nicholas Gonzalez, Chuku Modu, Beau Garrett, Hill Harper, Tamlyn Tomita, and Richard Schiff. The ABC TV show centers on Dr. Shaun Murphy (Highmore), a new surgical resident with autism and savant syndrome. His incredible memory and keen ability to perceive spatial relations inform Shaun’s gifted comprehension of his patients. Meanwhile, his autism can hinder his ability to communicate with others. With only the help of his advocate, Dr. Aaron Glassman (Schiff), Shaun must challenge the skepticism and prejudices of the hospital’s board and medical staff, in order to do his job and save lives. **Update below.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

I love this show! So excited for Monday nights!
Love this show…I eagerly wait for it every Monday night. Please renew for a second season!
I like the show. Too many critics are too full of themselves
I absolutely love the show, it is a very new concept that no one has channeled into. I am intrigued and excited every week.
My daughter and I absolutely love the show. My daughter is a therapist that works with autistic children and she said she see the similarities.
I was a huge fan of the show E.R. and this is as good a show. Please keep it coming.
The show would be more real if he would not have the robotic monotone voice and not move his eyes around like he is blind I work with people with autism and this is not typical
It may not be typical but autism comes in all forms. That was a rather cold comment.
Like the show- only flaw is stoic manner of dr Shaun-My grandson is Autistic & does eye contact all the time & laughs & jokes-do they know there r different positions on the Spectrem?
This is a great show. Please give it a chance. Shows that don’t include political politics is a breath of fresh air. At the end of the day I want to get away from all the media or President bashing and watch a great show. Please renew for many seasons.
Wonderful show please renew for another season
My son has AS, this show gives me hope. I am sitting up and rooting for Dr. Shaun Murphy as if he is my son too. Thank you ABC for giving our community a voice.
Feel bad for you thinking that this show is a realistic showing of AS. Your son has no chance of being a doctor.
I Love this show, this show educates, entertains, and gives hope to so many people. This show is a masterpiece. It is excellent from the beginning to the ending. It is about time.
Definitely should be renewed, in my mind. Great acting by Freddie Highmore, wow!
Here’s to “The Good Doctor” on having a successful Season 1 and many more to follow. I am enjoying Freddie Highmore very much. Very believable in his character. Especially enjoyed episode 3 when he actually ‘interacted’ with his female neighbor at the end. He looked so pleased with himself. 🙂 I will definitely continue watching.
I only watch to see Freddie Highmore! I cannot believe he was not considered for an Emmy for his portrayal of Norman Bates! What a great actor!
Absolutely continue…. excellent series and acting.. I am not usually a series viewer but this has grasped my attention… Freddie Highmore is outstanding….and other actors as well..
