After 13 years of movies and TV show episodes, magic is leaving the town of Middleton. Hallmark Channel has decided to end the Good Witch series so there won’t be an eighth season. The series finale airs on Sunday, July 25th.
A fantasy comedy-drama series, Good Witch stars Catherine Bell, James Denton, Sarah Power, Catherine Disher, Kylee Evans, Katherine Barrell, Marc Bendavid, and Scott Cavalheiro. Set in the town of Middleton, the show follows Cassandra “Cassie” Nightingale (Bell). She’s the owner of a shop called Bell, Book & Candle and is married to Dr. Sam Radford (Denton). Like her daughter Grace, Cassie has the gift of enchanted insight and magical intuition. The velvet pouches of soil discovered by Cassie, Abigail (Power), and Joy (Barrell) at the end of season six mark the start of a new Merriwick mystery for the cousins to unravel. This leads them to reflect on their pasts and how certain life events have impacted who they are now. Alongside the usual Middleton fun, season seven promises new relationships, personal challenges, and romance.
The seventh season of Good Witch is averaging a 0.12 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.53 viewers in the live+same day ratings. Compared to season six, that’s down by 29% in the demo and down by 18% in viewership. It’s one of Hallmark’s lowest-rated series but still does pretty well when compared to other cable dramas.
Here’s the series ending announcement from Hallmark:
HALLMARK CHANNEL’S ‘GOOD WITCH’ SERIES FINALE SET FOR SUNDAY, JULY 25
STUDIO CITY, CA – July 9, 2021 – Hallmark Channel announced today the series finale of the network’s original primetime show, “Good Witch.”
“‘Good Witch’ has enchanted viewers for over a decade with eight original movies, in addition to the seven-season series,” said Randy Pope, SVP, programming & development. “We thank our leads whose chemistry and talent made ‘Good Witch’ such a beloved and uniquely special viewing experience: Catherine Bell, who has brought the inimitable Cassie Nightingale to life for 13 years, and James Denton, who as Dr. Sam Radford has added so much charm and humor to the series. l am not happy been advertising all along new series starts in Aug. I like the show n look forward to watching. It seems like us viewers have no say so in what’s on. Have Murder she writes so much all day n night ntake off the good shows. We pay for the channel.n have no say so
Please, please save this show. We record and watch all of the shows but we’re always excited to see the new shows. We love all of the characters and they never disappoint. It’s like visiting old friends.
I’m very sad to hear the cancellation of Good Witch. One of my most favorite shows.
I have been watching this show since the very beginning, I don’t understand why. It saddens me to see it go.
I’m seeing a pattern on all the networks. Cancelling good entertaining shows and replacing with either reality junk or shows that aren’t entertaining. I’m really sorry to see Good Witch cancelled. What will be next on Hallmark’s chopping block?
I am also saddened by the cancellation of a great show – there is no violence or cursing or nudity which is rare for any shows today and I love shows without all that vulgarity. Very disappointed that Hallmark would cancel a great show – Wishing the cast and crew all the best and thanks for creating a show soooo worth watching – hope netflix takes it !
I agree with you totally
This is horrible I absolutely love this show. It’s actually entertaining and a family friendly show. I could and do watch it over and over. You probably should take into consideration some people may have to work when it’s first aired and may just not have a DVR, some people may just not have cable. I have watched it from day one I just love this show. It breaks my heart to see it go!
I am soooo shocked and saddened by this decision to end the Good Witch program. I’ve been a devoted follower since it started. Cudos to the directors and wonderful actors/actresses. The story lines were exciting and suspenseful. I will truly miss it.
I enjoy this momentary escape from reality and want to keep
Good Witch on the airwaves.
Keep good witch on air
One of the best shows Hallmark has aired so please reconsider is a very good family entertainment
The writers screwed up anyway. I watched the very first show of Good Witch before it was a series and have seen every show since. Cassie was married to a sheriff and the old man was his Dad. When her husband the sheriff was killed in the line of duty is when she moved into the gray house, started her shop and met all those people who treated her and her daughter poorly at first because she was different. The old man (Father In-Law) moved in to help her fix up the place. The writers screwed up with the old… Read more »
I love watching the good witch series because I watched all the movies and I am sorry to see it go
You guys keeping canceling good wholesome TV shows like Home and Family now the good witch not everybody likes to watch trash on TV and believe me there’s a lot of it on there!!!
Sorry to see you changed your mind about season 8. I read last week you were going to have a 8th season. Now today you say no 8th. I have enjoyed GW for years and have watched the reruns during the week to hopefully catch any I may have missed. I would be nice if you aired the new episodes more than the one time on Sunday night. Like you do your other mystery shows. Come on give GW a fair chance maybe you didn’t hear the pandemic made a mess of our lives. Please reconsider your decision and return… Read more »
I’m So Sry to see this series end. Up until Hallmarks’ decision to be “more politically correct”, across the board, Hallmark has been my go to for Entertainment. A moral break from the standard fare. Hope “When Calls the Heart” doesn’t fall into this Pit. [Although I am concerned about it’s current direction.] Thank You for Bringing Many Hrs of Fun & Relaxing Fantasy into My Life.
Sincerely. Dina ❤
