The ratings for Grey’s Anatomy have been dropping and the show is expensive to make but it remains one of ABC‘s top-rated shows. How long will it make sense for the network to keep it going? How long will viewers tune in? We’ll have to wait and see.
Grey’s Anatomy continues to follow the lives of the medical staff at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital. This season, the large cast includes Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., Sara Ramirez, Kevin McKidd, Jessica Capshaw, Sarah Drew, Jesse Williams, Camilla Luddington, Caterina Scorsone, and Jerrika Hinton.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/8 update: ABC has renewed Grey’s Anatomy for a 12th season.
Final season averages: 2.38 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.22 million total viewers.

Due to a Nielsen glitch, some of the early ratings of the 2014-15 season were revised a few weeks later.
For comparisons: The 10th season of Grey’s Anatomy averaged a 2.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.53 million total viewers.
Note: Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Grey’s Anatomy TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or be renewed for an 12th season?
It should be cancelled! You have to know when it’s time. And it’s time, when you kill off your leads, the people that should have never been touched… Cancel please. We can enjoy the old episodes without being tainted with the ridiculousness of the future ones.
I could not agree with you more. Us fans are who made miss thang “Shonda” who she is. Clearly she doesn’t care about that anymore and is all about herself. But, in her pride, she is writing very sloppy episodes now. It truly IS time for it to be 100% over. I hope the ratings plummet and that she is forced to take it off the air.
So it is a mistake to kill off Derek and in such a horrible way. you should go back to when Meridith was imagining the worst and the outcome is Derek emerges from the police car.
if you wanted him off the show, then send him to do some research at the request of the president. that would have been much better.
yesterday’s episode was terrible and quite frankly i have lost all interest.
He asked to leave the show.
He did want to be done. but WHY did it have to be in such a morbid way??? Shonda’s thoughtlessness is based on nothing but her ego and pride.
I’m done watching I can’t handle it . It will be cancelled already 22 thousand have stopped watching. You ruined the show you *****.
You go shonda with your entire cast drown in some sea we’ll be fine. You pls Get lost now.
End on a high note. Don’t die a horrible slow death. Derek is gone and the show should be cancelled.
AMEN!!!!!
I stopped watching last season because it’s just not interesting any more. I agree that in some ways the writing has been lazy. I hear Shondas voice in the characters of her show. It’s the same tone, inflection, repaticious verbiage. When characters all start to sound the same and you can see behind the curtain you can no longer get lost in the story. You start to know what’s going to be said and how they are going to say it. Where’s the fun in that. Greys is over, it’s sad. Scandal is next.
Renew renew renew!

It should definitely be cancelled with derek….
it should be canceled
I was left heartbroken by Derek’s death, and honestly i don’t know how the show can recover, but Shandra Rhymes has never let us down before. If the show is canceled now, then there will be no closure, but if it continues, Rhymes will end the show the way it should end. Although it seems impossible to recover from Derek’s death on the show, people forget who the writer is. Rhymes has kept this show going for 11 seasons now as well as her other shows Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder and i have never been disappointed… Read more »
Well said — I’ve made that empty threat myself on many occasions. And, honestly, the Grey’s Anatomy cast is so big and so full of amazing characters, cancelling it would be an insult to the remaining actors and completely unjustifiable.
I think it shoyld stay alive……the writers still come up with great story lines that make me laugh and cry. I can’t wait to watch each episode, so it clearly holds my attention. The fact that Derrek is gone is a big twist in the plot, but he has been gone most of the season and it didnt seem to matter. Meredith has always been that emotional pain saken type of character who has to deal with the people around her leaving her. I think this opens up wotlds of possibility for what the future holds. Now if they would… Read more »
Couldn’t agree more
Show hasn’t been good since season 3. The writers are lazy and unimaginative. I’m sure next season all the docs will, yet again, have to battle some dangerous disease/situation all in the name of drama. I hope Shonda Rhimes spares us the poorly written storylines and cancel the show.
Come on! It’s a soap, and a good one. How many soaps were on for 20 plus years, and had main characters killed off, or the actors that played them die off, and still had new story lines to explore or new characters to add. That’s life…and life goes on. I don’t know about anyone else, but I for one find life entertaining, and it would be a shame to see a good show like this one cancelled for the excuse that “art imitates life”, and apparently so many people don’t find life very entertaining. So Derek is dead…move on… Read more »
I couldn’t agree more! Yup, he’s dead but there are so many characters we know so little about. I, myself am dying of cancer and right now all I’ve got is TV, bed and painkillers that do little anymore. I agree that the way he died was ridonculous but how many of us out there have reached down to do the EXACT same thing he did, reach for our precious phones that fell, not paying any attention to the road. I’m guilty for sure. ER was on for 20 years and in my humble opinion Greys is just as great.… Read more »
I think the show should definitely be cancelled after killing off McDreamy, who was most likely the most popular star in the show.
