Last week, NBC unveiled their newest legal drama series, Harry’s Law. Interestingly, this isn’t a new Law & Order spin-off but rather the brainchild of David E. Kelley who created shows like ABC’s Boston Legal. He also worked on NBC’s popular LA Law many years ago. Will this legal series last as long as those or be quickly cancelled instead?
Harry’s Law revolves around Harriet “Harry” Korn (Kathy Bates), a curmudgeonly ex-patent lawyer. She’s abruptly fired from her blue chip law firm, forcing her to search for a fresh start. Harry finds it when she meets Malcolm Davies (Aml Ameen), a college student who desperately needs her help and ends up working for her. A young legal hotshot named Adam Branch (Nate Corddry) accidentally hits her and gives up his corporate job to join the team. With the help of Harry’s shoe-obsessed assistant, Jenna (Brittany Snow), they open for business as Harriet’s Law and Fine Shoes.
The TV series debuted last Monday and it attracted an okay 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.07 million viewers. It ranked in second place for the timeslot though probably would have been third if Castle had not been a repeat. Though that’s not a great debut, it’s a 47% improvement over Chase’s last original episode in the same timeslot. That’s very positive for NBC.

Last night’s episode of Harry’s Law drew a 2.1 in the demo and 10.43 million viewers. That’s a loss of about 5% in the demo from the premiere but still positive since most shows lose between 10 and 15% of their viewership in week two. Most people who watched last week obviously liked it and returned and perhaps even told a friend or two.
After just two airings, Harry’s Law ranks in sixth place on the list of NBC’s most-watched scripted programs, just below 30 Rock. That’s very positive, especially considering NBC’s string of bad luck in the Mondays at 10pm timeslot. If the series can sustain or even build on these early numbers, it looks certain that NBC will renew it for season two.
But, what do you think? Do you like Harry’s Law? Do you think NBC should keep it going or just cancel it? What do you like or dislike about the new series?

I almost didn’t watch this, as the reviews kind of slammed it before I even saw it. I love it. It has heart and humor. I hope they keep it.
I like K. Bates!
This show started off fine but then came the Liberal BS. Last night they even tried to echo Michelle Obama’s agenda against fast food. On another show they went after rush Limbaugh. This show doesn’t even attempt to cover its liberal agenda.
The left already has the liberal media in its pocket. Now we have to watch it on programming. Give me a break.
I won’t watch it again, don’t want to hear anymore of their one-sided left wing opinions.
I concur completely.
Please don’t cancel — this show has great potential.
I love this show.. lots of humor.. Love the shoe store idea and Cathy Bates is very good in this role
“Harry’s Law” is terrific!!! Finally, a show on TV worth watching! Thank you David E. Kelly!
I liked it at first but if they dont stop with the liberal BS I will have to stop watching this show… You would think that after the mid-term elections they would relize people dont like the “far left’s” opinions.
Went to a Superbowl party last night. Five women there (all over the age of 50) individually and as a group raved about this show. Hubby and I agree–please oh please keep it. There is so little the 50+ demographic can relate to on the tube these days!
I enjoyed it and got my husband to tivoed it also. The only problem we found is that it is on the same trime as Castle and Hawaii 5 o. They get prioity. I have tivo for the bravo channel, but has not be recoded since the pilot which I watched on the regular channel because castle was a repeat.
Congratulations to the writers for coming up with a fresh spin on a new legal-beagle show. It’s the best one since Boston Legal. It’s in a tough line-up, but has even pulled me away from vascillating between Castle (which had been my absolute favorite) and Hawaii 5O. I love the script…love Kathy Bates in the role…and think the supporting cast is a great fit. Please don’t zap this one.
Come on, just give it a chance. At least it’s not a nightime soap, the acting is good, plots are original. Perhaps looking at the ratings with the older viewers would be a good idea. After all, babyboomers are more and more joining the ranks of pensioners and having more time to spend on TV. So this demographics group should be considered also…oh, by the way, people don’t suddenly become gaga after the “venerable” age of 49! It’s a fair show, I like seeing some mature experience having a chance to be voiced alongside the younger energetic people. Give it… Read more »
We love love, love Harry’s Law. Please don’t cancel it. I didn’t know I missed one until my son asked me about . I am going to watch it. My son, who is a Harvard Law School graduate loves it too. We just talked about it this afternoon.
It’s Matlock meets The Cosby Show. It would be better suited for the 80’s. A lot of soap box speaches about society and unrealistic courtroom outcomes. Kathy Bates is great and she is the SOLE reason anyone should give this show a shot. Better writing, in the end, is the only thing that will save it.

YES, KEEP HARRY’S LAW! ! A refreshing change! significant subject matter & good acting. . . keep it coming!
Refreshing change??? You must like Criminal Minds also.
Last night on harry’s Law we had an attempted violent rape. Then we had a violent beating by a band of thugs.
I am so refreshed now.
