Last week, NBC unveiled their newest legal drama series, Harry’s Law. Interestingly, this isn’t a new Law & Order spin-off but rather the brainchild of David E. Kelley who created shows like ABC’s Boston Legal. He also worked on NBC’s popular LA Law many years ago. Will this legal series last as long as those or be quickly cancelled instead?
Harry’s Law revolves around Harriet “Harry” Korn (Kathy Bates), a curmudgeonly ex-patent lawyer. She’s abruptly fired from her blue chip law firm, forcing her to search for a fresh start. Harry finds it when she meets Malcolm Davies (Aml Ameen), a college student who desperately needs her help and ends up working for her. A young legal hotshot named Adam Branch (Nate Corddry) accidentally hits her and gives up his corporate job to join the team. With the help of Harry’s shoe-obsessed assistant, Jenna (Brittany Snow), they open for business as Harriet’s Law and Fine Shoes.
The TV series debuted last Monday and it attracted an okay 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.07 million viewers. It ranked in second place for the timeslot though probably would have been third if Castle had not been a repeat. Though that’s not a great debut, it’s a 47% improvement over Chase’s last original episode in the same timeslot. That’s very positive for NBC.

Last night’s episode of Harry’s Law drew a 2.1 in the demo and 10.43 million viewers. That’s a loss of about 5% in the demo from the premiere but still positive since most shows lose between 10 and 15% of their viewership in week two. Most people who watched last week obviously liked it and returned and perhaps even told a friend or two.
After just two airings, Harry’s Law ranks in sixth place on the list of NBC’s most-watched scripted programs, just below 30 Rock. That’s very positive, especially considering NBC’s string of bad luck in the Mondays at 10pm timeslot. If the series can sustain or even build on these early numbers, it looks certain that NBC will renew it for season two.
But, what do you think? Do you like Harry’s Law? Do you think NBC should keep it going or just cancel it? What do you like or dislike about the new series?

Keep the show~~there aren’t that many good shows on television, but this is one of them!!!!! We love it.
LOVE IT! Please keep this show.
KEEP IT!! Harry’s Law is delightfully entertaining. The story lines are intriging, capturing my full attention from start to finish. The dialog at the end challenges my view on life and self and opens door for new thoughts. Finally a family oriented show that helps us remember what is really important in life — friends, family & integrity. I say KEPT THE SHOW!! I do not get cable tv and rabbit ears do not work, but I never miss an episode of Harry’s Law via the internet. HEY ALMIGHTY GUYS/GALS WHO MAKE PROGRAMMING DECISIONS, you are not counting those of… Read more »
PLEASE KEEP THIS SHOW!!! IT’S PERFECT ~~~ FUNNY, SMART, BRILLIANTLY WRITTEN. YOU’VE BARELY GIVEN IT A CHANCE!!! YOU CAN’T CANCEL KATHY BATES!!! YOU WERE SO LUCKY TO LAND HER!!!
Harry’s Law = One of the best programs on TV today! How can a network consider canceling a program of this high caliber.
So far Eli Stone, Friday Night Lights and now Harry’s Law. Three programs I watched, appreciated and thoroughly enjoyed. I guess I can sure pick them.
DO NOT CANCEL THIS SHOW MY MOM AND I JUST LOVE IT! KATHY BATES IS THE BEST. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE KEEP IT ON THE AIR!
Keep it.
please keep this show………..very interesting
My husband and I love “Harry’s Law”, and Kathy Bates’ character. We will be devastated if it’s canceled. We’re also big fans of “Castle”, on another channel at the same time Monday nights, so we juggle a bit. It’s helpful that “Harry’s Law” is repeated Saturday nights, but if it wasn’t, I think we would opt for it Monday night instead of “Castle”. Haven’t seen if it’s going to be renewed, but as of today, it’s advertised as showing the “last two episodes”. What does that mean?
Keep!!!! My family loves this show. Kathy Bates is great!
I’m ashamed for both Nate and Kathy. They deserve better than this.
I’m not sure a rewrite could save this show.
Agree with Fifi’s 3/23/11 comment (see above). We’ve now seen all episodes of Harry’s Law and find it the most refreshing, amusing, intelligent, well-written, wonderfully acted new program in years.
PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL IT!!!!
PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL THIS SHOW. IT IS THE BEST SHOW SINCE BOSTON LEGAL. THE CAST IS GREAT!!!!!!
keep it; why don’t they count how many of us watch it on Hulu???? i work at night and watch shows during the morning on Hulu…. is that taken into consideration?
@joann: Yes, but the ad revenue from Hulu is far less than what is generated by regular commercials on TV so Hulu viewing doesn’t make much difference.
Look forward to Harry’s Law each week, appreciate social message, and Harry,s character
by Kathy Bates, is by far the most convincing part of this show.
Hoping this show is given the opportunity to stay on the air.
