Last week, NBC unveiled their newest legal drama series, Harry’s Law. Interestingly, this isn’t a new Law & Order spin-off but rather the brainchild of David E. Kelley who created shows like ABC’s Boston Legal. He also worked on NBC’s popular LA Law many years ago. Will this legal series last as long as those or be quickly cancelled instead?
Harry’s Law revolves around Harriet “Harry” Korn (Kathy Bates), a curmudgeonly ex-patent lawyer. She’s abruptly fired from her blue chip law firm, forcing her to search for a fresh start. Harry finds it when she meets Malcolm Davies (Aml Ameen), a college student who desperately needs her help and ends up working for her. A young legal hotshot named Adam Branch (Nate Corddry) accidentally hits her and gives up his corporate job to join the team. With the help of Harry’s shoe-obsessed assistant, Jenna (Brittany Snow), they open for business as Harriet’s Law and Fine Shoes.
The TV series debuted last Monday and it attracted an okay 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.07 million viewers. It ranked in second place for the timeslot though probably would have been third if Castle had not been a repeat. Though that’s not a great debut, it’s a 47% improvement over Chase’s last original episode in the same timeslot. That’s very positive for NBC.

Last night’s episode of Harry’s Law drew a 2.1 in the demo and 10.43 million viewers. That’s a loss of about 5% in the demo from the premiere but still positive since most shows lose between 10 and 15% of their viewership in week two. Most people who watched last week obviously liked it and returned and perhaps even told a friend or two.
After just two airings, Harry’s Law ranks in sixth place on the list of NBC’s most-watched scripted programs, just below 30 Rock. That’s very positive, especially considering NBC’s string of bad luck in the Mondays at 10pm timeslot. If the series can sustain or even build on these early numbers, it looks certain that NBC will renew it for season two.
But, what do you think? Do you like Harry’s Law? Do you think NBC should keep it going or just cancel it? What do you like or dislike about the new series?

Why isn’t the network giving this show more time? How can you possibly judge after only two shows???
Cathie Bates is terrific, and we just love the show.
You just do not know what to watch anymore. As soon as you become attached to a show they cancel it.
Love Kathy Bates…love the premise of how her practice is born….started out wonderfully…but then all those mega liberal politics came in, and my family will tune out…same thing that ruined Boston Legal 🙁
I am not a Kathy Bates fan but i was surprised by this show. Its better than most of the stuff they have on TV today.
Kathy Bates is a fabulous actress and this show is the format that she would totally shine in. She can deliver a dialogue that is perfectly on target. So…………why must the NBC left wing crew insist on turning off viewers with continual political crap? These TV shows are for escaping reality ( yes, even the “reality shows). If I want your political view, I can watch MSNBC, CNN, Fox or any of the many news shows on the tube. Leave the political jabs out and I will be happy to watch. Leave them in and your otherwise great show will… Read more »
Cannot believe the critics gave this show only one star! Long time waiting for David Kelley to come up with another good one. Kudos to whomever chose the cast members – Kathy Bates is perfect. Real life situations you can laugh at. Love love love it. Keep them coming.
It’s not Boston Legal (which should be back on the air again) but it is similar. Sure beats a lot of the other shows on TV, especially the reality shows! Ugh! So sick of them all!
I love it!! Definitely should keep it. 🙂
Love it, best show I’ve seen in some time
Kathy Bates and cast are absolutely fabulous! R Kelley, you have outdone yourself! I love this show! It is refreshing to see real life in action! Harry’s Law is awesome! Koodos to Kathy Bates and Kelley! This is definately a keeper! Thanks for keeping life real; perhaps the show will open some eyes.
My husband and I LOVE the show. Keep it! Kathy Bates is the best.
Love the show, leave it on. Kathy Bates is great.
I’ve watched both episodes and really like the show but making poltical diggs each week is a turn off for me. If that doesn’t change I’ll quit watching the show. Why can’t writers just right a good script and leave the politics out….we watch TV to escape not to hear the news!
I love the show but I don’t understand why you are pushing politics. Leave the politics out of and you got a winner.
Real life politics are what real life is all about. What if you were in that position? Wouldn’t you want someone to back you up that actually cared?
Keep it….all the actors are amazing:) Kathy Bates is terrific!!!!
Love, love, love it. Cathy Bates is superb as is the rest of her cast. So fed up with reality shows, David Kelley hits another home run. Keep it and don’t bounce it all over the primetime schedule, it will be watched.
