Last week, NBC unveiled their newest legal drama series, Harry’s Law. Interestingly, this isn’t a new Law & Order spin-off but rather the brainchild of David E. Kelley who created shows like ABC’s Boston Legal. He also worked on NBC’s popular LA Law many years ago. Will this legal series last as long as those or be quickly cancelled instead?
Harry’s Law revolves around Harriet “Harry” Korn (Kathy Bates), a curmudgeonly ex-patent lawyer. She’s abruptly fired from her blue chip law firm, forcing her to search for a fresh start. Harry finds it when she meets Malcolm Davies (Aml Ameen), a college student who desperately needs her help and ends up working for her. A young legal hotshot named Adam Branch (Nate Corddry) accidentally hits her and gives up his corporate job to join the team. With the help of Harry’s shoe-obsessed assistant, Jenna (Brittany Snow), they open for business as Harriet’s Law and Fine Shoes.
The TV series debuted last Monday and it attracted an okay 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.07 million viewers. It ranked in second place for the timeslot though probably would have been third if Castle had not been a repeat. Though that’s not a great debut, it’s a 47% improvement over Chase’s last original episode in the same timeslot. That’s very positive for NBC.

Last night’s episode of Harry’s Law drew a 2.1 in the demo and 10.43 million viewers. That’s a loss of about 5% in the demo from the premiere but still positive since most shows lose between 10 and 15% of their viewership in week two. Most people who watched last week obviously liked it and returned and perhaps even told a friend or two.
After just two airings, Harry’s Law ranks in sixth place on the list of NBC’s most-watched scripted programs, just below 30 Rock. That’s very positive, especially considering NBC’s string of bad luck in the Mondays at 10pm timeslot. If the series can sustain or even build on these early numbers, it looks certain that NBC will renew it for season two.
But, what do you think? Do you like Harry’s Law? Do you think NBC should keep it going or just cancel it? What do you like or dislike about the new series?

Thank the LOrd at last something realistic without violence. Love it Love it !!!! PLEASE KEEP IT
Without violence???? Are you kidding??
Last night we had an attempted violent rape. Then we had a gang of black thugs beating the living heck out of the rapist. This all in addition to the liberal agenda of the show.
I think the moderator for this comment thread is deleting anti-liberal comments. I have sent in several and they are not by any means objectionable yet they do not get posted.
@Ken: As long as a comment isn’t bigoted or hateful, comments are not deleted. There are several pages of comments on this post so perhaps they are in there or you posted your comments elsewhere.
Harry’s Law…Best show in years, earlier time slot please! Our day starts at 4am but we have been able to watch the repeats that air on the weekends. Ms Bates is as phenomenal as the story lines.
For a legal show with a humor side its entertaining. Kathy Bates balances the subject matter with her natural mentor like legal nuances. If one really listens to some of the subject matters in court (albet funny at times) it has a significant meaning in todays society when thinking about crimes, poverty, and legal defences. Seems like this show deserves a chance
It’s a KEEPER!!!!! Love the show and the cast!
Great show. Love the character development and the rapid repartee. Kathy Bates is terrific, and David Kelley’s writing is great.
Best show out there. KEEP IT! Funny and salty at the same time…….I love it.
LOVE THE SHOW. KEEP IT. NBC seems to keep canceling great shows to replace them with terrible ones. They need to start giving these great shows a chance to grow before they pull the plug.
Harry’s Law, sophisticated, smart, best theing to hit TV in a long time. Kathy Bates is rock solid , you can believe she is a lawyer. I hope it runs for years. A show for intellengent, quick witted folks who like prime rib instead of Mickey D’l
I have been recording this great show, since it was on past our bed time on Monday nights at 10:00 p.m. I see now it is on Monday nights at 8:00 pm. We should be able to stay awake for that. Only age (68), but get up early a.m.
You could not have chosen a better actress to play the part of Harry. The
other actors all compliment each other. Mr. Kelly you certainly did put a lot
of thought into this program. Both my husband and I appreciate Harry’s Law.
Definitely keep Harry’s Law!!! We think it is the best new network dramatic series to come on in recent years!! Kathy Bates is ideal in the lead role and the cast of supporting characters is super! The first three scripts have been very entertaining, educational (from a legal perspective), and reflect socially redeeming values–without much of the sexual overtones and/or excessive violence of many other dramatic series. Keep Harry’s Law coming!
What a hoot! Love Kathy Bates – the situational ethics of the cases are refreshing – and what is justice all about anyway? This is so much better than most of the reality drivel that now passes as entertainment. I love this show, love the ensemble/cast, theme, humor and pure entertainment value. Keep this one so I can justify my monthly cable bill!
Harry’s Law has all the elements of a well crafted dramatic series!! We love it!! An earlier time slot would certainly boost the ratings.
HARRY’S LAW, KATHY BATES AND COMPANY, THE BEST NEW SHOW OF THIS SEASON. CAN’T GO WRONG WITH MS. BATES. LIKE ALREADY STATED, REFRESHING, FUNNY. FINALLY SOMETHING NEW. GOOD WORK, MR. KELLEY
Keep it, please!!!! Would love to see it at an early time slot!!!!!!!!
The episode I refer to especially is Monday 10PM Jan. 31st. Is this new show so” different” than so many others..YES–and that is why I like it! Don’t dare compare it to all the other junk the networks try to feed us!!!
