Kathy Bates can officially turn down any pending movie offers. Her TV series, Harry’s Law, has been renewed for a second season by NBC.
Harry’s Law centers around Harriet “Harry” Korn (Kathy Bates), a cranky former patent lawyer. She’s forced to make a fresh start and ends up assembling an interesting new team; college student Malcolm Davies (Aml Ameen), legal hotshot Adam Branch (Nate Corddry), and a footwear-obsessed assistant named Jenna (Brittany Snow).
Debuting mid-season, the series started out decently with a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 11.07 million viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they are significantly better than the other shows that NBC has had in the Mondays at 10pm timeslot. Unfortunately, the ratings slid downward as the season progressed and the last original episode, on April 4th, registered just a 1.4 in the demo and 7.75 million viewers.
The season ended up averaging just a 1.8 in the demo and 9.39 million viewers. That’s just a bit more than NBC’s struggling (but now renewed) Chuck. So much for Harry’s Law being a hit.
While the demo numbers aren’t very good, the show does have the most viewers of any scripted series on the network. Total viewership isn’t nearly as important as the the demo ratings but having that many people watch and potentially talk about the show can help attract new demo viewers. Besides, NBC has a lot of other holes to fill on the 2011-12 schedule.
NBC will officially unveil the new 2011-12 schedule to advertisers on Monday but will give reporters a preview on Sunday. Be user to bookmark and visit our NBC cancel/renew page to keep up with the latest comings and goings.
What do you think? Are you glad that Harry’s Law will be back for season two? How would you attract more 18-49 viewers so season three will be a guarantee?

THANK YOU THANK YOU NBC for once you’ve done something right!!! Harry’s Law is the best show. Love the cast. Love Kathie Bates!!
I LOVE the show!!!!!!!! Kathy Bates is SUPER!!!!!!! I feel that, if you listen, her closing arguments and/or last words of each episode, you will hear a great moral, character building lesson! Iam looking FORWARD to another season. I MISS the show!!
This show is terrific. I love the irony and liberal cause marketing is always entertaining. The entire cast is fabulous and David Kelly can’t be topped.
What a great show! I couldn’t wait for it to be on. Glad it was renewed!!!
I am sooooooooooo glad Harry is returning – love her, love the show!!! I just have a really big problem with the 18-49 demographics. I truly don’t believe that 18 year-olds (or many in that total age-group) spend as much money as the 50-60 year olds. So why do they “weigh more” in the ratings? When is that magical numuber going to update?
GREAT show, look forward to it every week, PLEASE keep it around, a quality entertaining program
Looked forward to Harry’s Law every week . . . wonderful, unique . . . and Kathy Bates is incredible. She always brings such emotion to her closing arguments . . . brings tears to my eyes sometimes. I cannot wait for the next season and hope it will continue for years to come.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this show– so glad it’s coming back!!!
I LOVE this show. It is fast-paced and always keeps
me wondering what will happen next.
David E Kelley’s writing is amazing. I was really sad
to see Boston Legal end and delighted when I saw that
Harry’s Law was written by him.
Way to go! Please keep it going. Those not watching
this program have no idea what they’re missing :>)
great show
We love Harry’s Law and recommend it to all who are looking for something decent to watch on TV. Kathy Bates does a wonderful job with this series.
