Kathy Bates can officially turn down any pending movie offers. Her TV series, Harry’s Law, has been renewed for a second season by NBC.
Harry’s Law centers around Harriet “Harry” Korn (Kathy Bates), a cranky former patent lawyer. She’s forced to make a fresh start and ends up assembling an interesting new team; college student Malcolm Davies (Aml Ameen), legal hotshot Adam Branch (Nate Corddry), and a footwear-obsessed assistant named Jenna (Brittany Snow).
Debuting mid-season, the series started out decently with a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 11.07 million viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they are significantly better than the other shows that NBC has had in the Mondays at 10pm timeslot. Unfortunately, the ratings slid downward as the season progressed and the last original episode, on April 4th, registered just a 1.4 in the demo and 7.75 million viewers.
The season ended up averaging just a 1.8 in the demo and 9.39 million viewers. That’s just a bit more than NBC’s struggling (but now renewed) Chuck. So much for Harry’s Law being a hit.
While the demo numbers aren’t very good, the show does have the most viewers of any scripted series on the network. Total viewership isn’t nearly as important as the the demo ratings but having that many people watch and potentially talk about the show can help attract new demo viewers. Besides, NBC has a lot of other holes to fill on the 2011-12 schedule.
NBC will officially unveil the new 2011-12 schedule to advertisers on Monday but will give reporters a preview on Sunday. Be user to bookmark and visit our NBC cancel/renew page to keep up with the latest comings and goings.
What do you think? Are you glad that Harry’s Law will be back for season two? How would you attract more 18-49 viewers so season three will be a guarantee?

I can hardly wait!! I loved this show!! It touched on issues that are out there and the cast did an excellent job!!
I love this show! Thank you for bringing it back. Keep those writers; they’re doing an excellent job for the excellent group of actors. Just wish you’d keep politics out of the story lines a little more. We get enough of that on the talk shows, radio, and internet. Good entertainment is what we all need.
Love HARRY’S LAW…..please do not cut it out……
I love HARRY’S LAW and so does my wife who is a detective/lawyer type series TV fan…..this is the FIRST serial TV show that I have absolutely become enamored with since FRASIER way back about twenty years ago ? I haven’t watched and don’t watch ANY serial TV shows for the last twenty years until HARRY’S lAW came along…I love it and I hope it continues ! I’mm 55 years old and my wife just turned 60 so we are outside the demos they are looking for at NBC…however, we are consumers and the AD people are interested in that,… Read more »
I love this show. It is Kathy Bates at her best as far as I am concerned. I am 53 and my daughter who is 32 started watching it with me and loves it. All of the characters on this show just pop out off the screen at you. The writers and actors on this show are all amazingly entertaining. We would have been really upset if it had been cancelled. Good call NBC.
Great! I like Bates’ character; like the show. I recorded it each week. Glad to see it is not being dumped….. getting so tired of trying to avoid the reality TV shows.
I love this show, and all the actors in it. Thank you for keeping on.
Love the show!! Glad it will be returning. All my friends (older and younger) really enjoy this show. Too bad all lawyers aren’t like Harry!.
maybe you should air some re-runs of the shows keep peoples interest, I love the show I think we need more light hearted “criminal” shows like this one…and all the actors in the serious are great too…I also agree with one reader….do we really need 2 hrs of biggest loser??
This is one of the BEST show’s on tv in a long, long time. Love Kathy Bates, and her ‘team’ is great, keep it as it is.
I am really glad this show has been renewed, and if they want to draw in more viewers, I would suggest moving it to a 9pm time slot. The content of the show really doesn’t warrant a 10pm time slot and on a Monday night, that’s a pretty late night…
I love the Harry’s Law series. Kathy Bates is terrific and the topics are relevant and need to be out there for the viewers to see and think about. To be a lawyer, in the ghetto, and in Cincinnati, is believable and greatly needed. The first episode was too far over the top and I didn’t like it, but since then, the show has left it’s mark with me, and I missed seeing it weekly. Adam and Malcolm are great, too.
i loved it! but then again i loved Boston legal as well! i sure hope this one does not get taken down because of it´s political flair as Boston legal did, we need the flair in this day and age…
i love it!
Totally agree. Hubby and I really enjoyed this show and especially Kathy Bates. We, too, loved Boston Legal and all it’s quirkiness. One hour each week we’ll be turned to it for sure. So happy it’ll be back.
This is a show my friends across the country like to chat about on the phone. We look for non-reality shows to watch like this. Other shows we like are Memphis Beat, Hot in Cleveland, Chicago Code, Body of Proof…….. Give us a show with a good cast, well-written script and a consistant schedule so we know when and where to find it on a regular basis. Nothing hurts a show more than an interuption or change in schedule. The assumption is the show has run it course for the season or been cancelled.
Love this show should stay on who say ratings mean anything everyone I talk to has loved this show. Must see for everyone. To bad most Lawyers arent like her down to earth and ready to fight for the underdog. Dont cancel this show
