You can’t keep the home fires burning in UK. The Home Fires TV show has been cancelled by ITV. Actor Daniel Ryan, who played Bryn Brindsley in the World War II era drama, broke the bad news on Twitter. His tweet reads: “So, it is with huge sadness I must tell you that #HomeFires has been cancelled. Awful to leave stories untold and lives incomplete. Sorry.”
Executive producer Catherine Oldfield also tweeted about the Home Fires cancellation, saying: “So very sorry that #Homefires won’t be back. We loved making the show & that it was well received by so many made it all the more special.” The Home Fires cast also includes: Samantha Bond, Francesca Annis, Ruth Gemmell, Claire Rushbrook, Ed Stoppard, Chris Coghill, Clare Calbraith, Fenella Woolgar, Mark Bazeley, and Mike Noble. Many of them have tweeted about the cancellation, too.
The second season of the Home Fires TV series is set during the summer of 1940. The village of Great Paxford is caught up in the the Battle of Britain. Two weeks after the defeat at Dunkirk, with the German army advancing through France, Britain braces itself for invasion.
Home Fires season two ended on a cliffhanger, with a plane nose-diving into a home in the village.

What do you think? Are you a fan of Home Fires? Should the Home Fires TV show have been cancelled or renewed? Let us know, below.
What a shame the show was cancelled. Why? It has such smart writing, a feminist perspective on situations that have typically gone unquestioned in mainstream media, strong characters, and a gripping plot. I’m so tired of the endless murder mysteries that my public TV station imports from England. Shame on the producers for leaving us hanging and for cancelling such a quality program.

It’s so disappointing when you find such a quality program then have it cancelled after you had become so emotionally invested in its characters and stories.
I just re-watched both Season 1 and 2… and am so frustrated that there is no Season 3!!! This is one of the finest series I have ever watched. What a sad statement on those who cancelled this show!
I quite don’t understand British television. Fabulous series are canceled without notice and yet mediocre storylines drone on for season after season…some for over a decade. I can’t even describe how shocked I was to learn the last episode I saw was THE last episode of the entire series! Great story, great cast, great writers.
I so agree!
Completely agree. Maybe the exec’s want to push more humdrum mediocrity because they don’t like the idea of nuance or strong female characters. Just a hunch given the way the world is.
I so enjoyed season 1 and 2. Sad that there won’t be another season. The characters were so developed and refine. You don’t get that kind of character development in newer historical films.
We felt like the Home Fires cast was part of the family after getting to know them through two seasons. Please-please bring back Home Fires for a 3rd season!:-(
I am so disappointed that there will be no third season of Home Fires. It makes me miserable to not know what happened to all the lives of the people in Paxton. I especially want to know what happened to Pat!
I don’t understand why such a great show was cancelled especially since half of the would be third season was already written. I’m really shocked that Masterpiece Theater would do this – such a mistake.
I am so disappointed that Home Fires has been cancelled. The story line is so inspiring. The actors and actresses are good. I hope that someone will reconsider and bring back this show.
I just finished watching Season 2. This was a really good show. Excellent acting; good story-line build-up. It makes me proud to be female, which is not always easy to come by in any culture. And it has created a narrative and lives which now seem hung in mid-air. Surely there couldn’t be anything better acted. I want to know what happened to the characters. The reasons for cancelling it can’t have been due to the show itself. I hope that someone has the power to re-consider the decision.
just found Home Fires series and love it . Was devastated to find out I would be left hanging finding out it was canceled. Don’t care for Call the Midwife and no other series has caught my heart like Home Fires.
How can you leave us hanging like this?? Unbelievable that you could do this. It is such a fabulous show , wonderful story and actors. It’s too bad that all the garbage seems to stay on tv and you take a wonderful show off. Shame on you.
Loved this series and was so disappointed to find out the series was cancelled since it leaves one hanging . Bring it back, too good of a series to have been dropped.
