You can’t keep the home fires burning in UK. The Home Fires TV show has been cancelled by ITV. Actor Daniel Ryan, who played Bryn Brindsley in the World War II era drama, broke the bad news on Twitter. His tweet reads: “So, it is with huge sadness I must tell you that #HomeFires has been cancelled. Awful to leave stories untold and lives incomplete. Sorry.”
Executive producer Catherine Oldfield also tweeted about the Home Fires cancellation, saying: “So very sorry that #Homefires won’t be back. We loved making the show & that it was well received by so many made it all the more special.” The Home Fires cast also includes: Samantha Bond, Francesca Annis, Ruth Gemmell, Claire Rushbrook, Ed Stoppard, Chris Coghill, Clare Calbraith, Fenella Woolgar, Mark Bazeley, and Mike Noble. Many of them have tweeted about the cancellation, too.
The second season of the Home Fires TV series is set during the summer of 1940. The village of Great Paxford is caught up in the the Battle of Britain. Two weeks after the defeat at Dunkirk, with the German army advancing through France, Britain braces itself for invasion.
Home Fires season two ended on a cliffhanger, with a plane nose-diving into a home in the village.

Radio Times reports ITV has confirmed it cancelled Home Fires. “An ITV spokesman said: ‘We are incredibly proud of what Home Fires has achieved, but the ITV commissioning team continues to refresh the channel’s drama portfolio, hence the decision not to commission a further new series’.”
The Radio Times poll currently shows 97% of respondents disagree with ITV’s decision to cancel Home Fires. Fans are petitioning ITV via Change.org, to recommission Home Fires for a third season. As of this writing, it has 7,463 signatures. In the US, the first season of Home Fires premiered on PBS in October, 2015.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Home Fires? Should the Home Fires TV show have been cancelled or renewed? Let us know, below.
a wonderful series. why take off the good?
How unfair to us loyal fans not to finish out the story line. It is a wonderful show. This happens too often and it is very wrong.
No no NO. This is wonderful. Too many stories not finished. Please reconsider itv. You are WRONG to do this.
Hey, guys! Go on to those.

It’s a travesty that Home Fires has been cancelled. They can’t just leave it as a cliff hanger. We need to know what happened. People will lose faith in ITV dramas if they do things like this. It was the best program on TV at the moment and I, and many of my friends are devastated. We will definitely be signing the petition to bring it back.
Does this mean that itv has made a decision to no longer commision good drama probably more money in drama like the secret and i do not have the language skills to compare them in great detail as i am no wordsworth
ITV, like BBC have made some monumentally stupid decisions over drama in recent years – & this is one of them. If ITV do not react to their viewers ( I must admit this was one of the very shows I have watched on ITV in recent years – I don’t watch X-Factor, BGT, I’m a (so-called) Celebrity etc ), then let’s hope Amazon or Netflix take it on. Basically, if you start a drama about WW2, you should have it show the entirety of he period, not just 1 out of 6 years!
Unbelievably stupid decision! Home Fires touched a chord with those of us who didn’t live through the war. Trust the decision makers knew what they would be doing and of course replace the slot with more rubbish like X factor or BGT! God forbid.
I was so disappointed to read that Home Fires is being cancelled after season 2. I just re-watched season 1 here in the US on PBS and eagerly waiting for season 2. I was checking around the internet to see if there was a date set for the debut of the second season when I ran across this news. It is a fine show with great appeal to many people I know. Please reconsider this decision.
Clearly this is a gross error of judgement on the part of ITV’s staff in control of commissioning. Canceled simply to ‘refresh’ the lineup is simply not good enough – different does not equate to better. Home Fires is a superb series, well acted, with great storylines and characters. Much like Foyle’s Warit told an often ignored side to the Wartime experience of Britain. The second series built on the superb groundwork of the first, and I am confident the third would have continued in the same vein. An appalling decision to cancel it, which I very much hope will… Read more »
I could not believe that Sunday May 8 programme was the last.. I even turned on to the Channel today thinking there was to be another episode but of course it was the Queen’s birthday celebration anyway. I wanted to know what happened next…….please bring it on again. ITV cannot leave it like that otherwise it was a complete waste of time and effort. The series brought out the sorrows of WW11 but also the joys and courage of the wartime British spirit, portrayed in rural life.
Absolutely appalled at there being no further series of Home Fires it has been brilliant and had me enthralled & waiting for the next part!! ITV idiots !! Don’t no a good thing when they have it!!!
Gutted, love that series, hate reality to and can’t believe they can’t finish off the story lines. Stupid decision ITV
Surely 6 million viewers should have the right to watch a series to the end, not just one person just come along and cancel it. What is wrong with itv you actually put something on worth watching then do this !!!! Absolutely ridiculous.
Have just found out that ITV have abandoned filming series 3 of Home Fires. What on earth are they doing? To leave such a brilliant series at such a crucial time is disgusting. What is wrong with the TV people. Home Fires was compelling viewing, excellent writing and acting. Surely the popularity of this programme must have some influence on carrying on. If ITV don’t want it, BBC should get in take it over. Sure it will be worth it for them. Please listen to the viewers opinions and leg Home Fires continue.
